So, who's planning on buying the new NSX?

Well in defense of the pricing issue... When they stopped making them in 05 the price was roughly 90k. Given that it won't be out for another few years that's 10 years after the last release date and also you get ALL the new technology supposedly they've been researching. I guess we'll just all see.

Maybe Acura will pull a rabbit out of a hat trick and for 170k it could be a bargain? Doubt it, but it could happen.

At 170K all it will do to current NSX pricing is steady or raise it. Not lower it. It's not all bad news for current nsx owners.

Well, it appears the price is likely jumping again to around $170,000. If that is accurate, that is well above what I can justify for the car. Dang it....well, I hope that either the price comes back down, or the rest of you guys allow us to live vicariously through you. When I got that call I was gutted.

$170k seems highly unlikely, they may be lucky to sell 800 of them a year at that price. Starting to smell like the LFA.

I talked to my dealers manager and he said it will definitely be over MSRP and I won't even get to order the car most likely. He said Acura will tell them how much over MSRP they can charge because they don't like it when their dealers "price gouge"... then he said it may be only $10k over MSRP not $30k or $50k. Right... I don't think he understands what defines price gouging! Oh and if you buy it, they said you probably can't take delivery of it until they get another one in to keep in their showroom.. ridiculous. Anyhow, still #2 on the list but I am also thinking wait till the hype dies down.

1) It's still not really that pretty and doesn't look like it's changing. I'm sure it's better in person though, but have yet to see it.
2) Shouldn't have to pay over MSRP and get wallet raped. That was the whole point in getting on the list years ago.
3) Won't get to custom order the car you're paying over full price for? And then not take delivery when paid? Right.
4) They can work out the bugs in the first few thousand units.
5) The price will probably plummet as demand drops steeply, like the original. Supply likely to be high since not imported.
6) Should really consider a used exotic instead for best value, though it won't be as "hot".
7) Wait for a Type R or S variant since it's being made in the USA?

It sounds like no one really knows what is going on with the new NSX. Once again it seems like this car will be ditched at the last minute. Has anyone heard about any of the US factories being prepared to produce the car. There are usually inside leaks about some of the production processes of a new car like the NSX.

DocL,
You bring up a very good point. It is odd that there hasn't been a peep about the "new" factory to build these new cars. You would think someone would leak some information about the plant. I have heard that there maybe a second assembly line for the engine, but that's it. I would think the factory to build the actual car would be separate from what they build the other vehicles.
Sadly, I think that some of you maybe right. The new NSX may have its lifeline pulled at the last because of some economic disaster(s).

I'm curious as to what this car will sound like.
Will it be more Jetta or Prius?

$170K??? You have to be kidding me. I'll buy the new Lotus Esprit for the targeted $120K (if I had the cash)

What Lotus Esprit? It is rumored that Lotus does not have enough money to restock the factory restrooms with toilet paper

Yeah they are going to go under. That last hoorah of concepts was a last ditch effort to generate excitement and try to save themselves.

I think that's becuase they don't seem to even have the final engine for it yet. Let's face it if your pricing a V6 at higher that Porsche 911 turbo or Audi R8 V10 you better have your ducks in a row. 400-500hp won't cut it at that price better be making over 500hp.

Ito has said it's using the ED V6 and at this point I can't see how they're going to make big numbers w/o forced induction. If Honda introduces the car at less than 500Hp trying to go just the NA and batteries route 800 cars a year won't happen and the car will just die after that announcement and before it hits the dealers.

People keep wanting them to match Ferrari but a 458 killer can't be cheap if it's even possible to beat Ferrari now. All the fanfare/pressure has increased so price had to go up.

I think this car may die on the vine due to goals they can't meet at a price people will pay.

If they're going to turn heads, the price will need to be less than the 2014 Porsche GT3.

World premiere at the Geneva Motor Show

Porsche Debuts Fifth Generation of the 911 GT3
Atlanta. The new Porsche 911 GT3 premieres this week at the Geneva International Motor Show. The completely-redeveloped fifth generation of the 911 GT3 occupies the top position among Porsche sports cars with naturally-aspirated engines. With an impressive lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife of under 7:30 minutes, the 2014 911 GT3 benefits from a new engine, transmission, body and chassis. The car now sprints from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds on its way to a top track speed of 195 mph. The 2014 911 GT3 will go on sale in the United States late in 2013 and will be priced from $130,400, not including a $950 destination charge.

LOL but its not a hybrid!

Just kidding Doc Honda is going to price this car out of the market and say "But everyone was so excited what happened?"

Honda out pricing the Viper, GTR , 911 and R8 is just not going to fly. Out pricing the Germans has not worked for the Japanese yet that I'm aware of.

Even the LFA was/is cheaper than the Carrera GT and the 599 (when it was equipped comparably). Cars that were its real competition.

The GTR is also priced below its German/american competition.

Honda is pricing it below Ferarri and Mclaren but people shopping those cars aren't going to putting the NSX on their list.

Hmmm, McLaren mp4-12c prices for the 2012 coupes have lost around 70k off the msrp. I beleive they shipped 400 to the US and 250 that was allocated for UK was shipped to US instead because of the economy there. Now in the US, there are tons of new AND used mp4-12c for 230k when they should be 300k. And prices are still dropping on them. Now McLaren will ship only thirty 2013 coupes and 30 2013 spiders tot he US to hopefully help bring back the price.
Hopefully this doesnt happen to the new NSX, but in this economy, it can.
btw, the MP4-12c is an excellent car to drive on a daily basis. Test drove it last week and it was sweet. I just cant get over that active air brakes.

I hope Honda is following this development.
It shows that any segment can be overproduced and in the exotic market it's disastrous.
Not only does the price weaken but the exclusivity also takes a hit.
Can you imagine buying one of the first McLarens at list then finding they are selling for $50 K less.
Ouch

I wonder how many of us like it just cause of the NSX name.

I mean, If you put a different badge, like Audi, McLaren, or whatever would you still like it?

I spoke with a guy who actually took a big hit and was afraid to take anymore hits so he sold his mp4 and bought a 458 which he felt he can handle the depreciation much easily. He also said he would not be surprised if it came down to 150k by sept 2013.
I initially thought it would be a great deal to get into a mp4 for 230k that msrp for 302k. I figured it took a big hit and 2013 will have less coupes available which would drive up value of the 2012 coupes. Maybe drive it a year and sell it for same price I paid (C=
Was on my way to take a second look on the mp4 which was negotiated to be $70k off. 10 min before I arrived, it sold to someone else. Its weird cuz that exact car sat there for some time (at least afew months). Then it sold 10 min before I got there. Another nice VO mp4 in the showroom also sold that very same day. Who knows, maybe its starting to pick back up.
It wasnt the exact color I wanted so It didnt totally bother me too much. Anyway, we shall see if I missed a good deal in Sept.
The black 2012 mp4-12c was never registered and had 154 miles on it. It was practically brand new. Thats why I wanted it!

Hell, the whole Acura brand could be ditched and I doubt anyone would notice.

The new RL.. now with V6 power and FWD... lets go get BMW, Lexus, etc... oh wait, it's always been a V6... but the FWD is new! Yeah! They couldn't even compete with Hyundai at this point, what makes anyone here think they can handle Ferrari, Porsche et all?

Seems like Honda is wishing they stuck with motorcycles and economy cars IMO.

Sorry, but as a luxury brand they lost me.... and as a performance brand... well, what performance?

Honda was heading in the right direction in the early to mid 90s. It was when they decided not to keep up with performance and ignore the public is when they faltered. "The beak is here to stay" You are right that if Acura went away, most of the population wouldn't notice. Honda has lost its soul.

I just got back form a 10 brand mega car dealership..wow the acura section was like a ghost town..3 cars with lots of wasted space....the honda section was more staged ..but with a honda generator and weedwacker and lawnmower....the cars seemed secondary. There was not much "life" in the whole area vs the more bustling korean and domestic sections.....

Disappointing is the new RLX. It's going to flop, again. The fact that after all this talk of new and fresh and change of direction they bring out this dowdy body design AGAIN is really disappointing. I would buy one as a used car because I want something comfortable and anonymous and reliable. Something to back up my actual REAL car.

I'm feelin the new MDX.. but i do agree about the RLX.. design on the headlights looks cheap in person. hopefully the MDX and NSX doesn't look like that.

Similar for the new MDX. I liked the original good enough (owned one), like the current edgy body style a lot, but the curvy future (2014) MDX is just this rounded boring generic SUV.

Edit: Ok, maybe it's not that bad. The first side view reminded me of an older Infinity SUV or the Audi Q7 or something else I don't like. Looking from other angles helps, hood/front is nice, etc...but the side. I just don't like the half-assed wheel bumps on the new one. Either eliminate them to have a nice line down the side or make them more-defined like the last MDX.
