So I was at NAIAS 06 for press days (many pics, with a link to 500+)

My thoughts:

1) The new Camry reminds me of Gonzo.
2) The new Jeep Compass reminds me of Dizzy Gillespie(?sp)
3) The Camaro was amazing. With it, the Shelby GT, and the new Dodge Challenger, it really is a rebirth of the domestic muscle car. "That which is old is new again."
4) No NSX. It was sad to not see it at the Acura stand. And it was funny to see them "unveil" the first Acura Legend. I kept hoping it was a fake body. It wasn't.
5) There really arn't that many new vehicles that I like. Almost every domestic I got in had poor quality (I hate plastic interiors), even the SRT-8 Charger and SRT-8 Grand Cherokee, both of which I really wanted to like. Of the imports, none really stirred my blood. The only imports I kept going back to were a Mini Cooper S, a modified IS350 (which I found stunning), and amazingly the new Jag XK Coupe. Ferrari's don't count (oh how I lust for an F430).
6) Ferrari has the hottest girls by far. Saleen was a close second.
7) Cadillac is really marketing to the urban youth/hip-hop crowd with their SUV line-up. They even had a breakdancing display over rap music on Sunday.
8) Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep put on the best press conferences, HANDS DOWN. If I can upload the videos, I'll prove it. The release of the Chrysler Aspen was ah-may-zing.

Here are some of the pics I took. The link to all of them is at the bottom of this first post...

Totally agree, awesome pics.
I love the Audi's,Ferraris, Mercedes.
WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO THE SOLSTICE ?!?!!?
I really like the pic of the huh, front of Saleen truck.

One of the few perks of living in Michigan. I'm going early Saturday in hopes of beating the crowds (or as much of them as I can). I can't believe they have the FXX! That thing is amazing...ugly, but amazing.

I think the Saleen brunette is the best looking of what's shown so far.

And yes, what the heck happened to that solstice!

The Miura is GORGEOUS.

I hope it makes it to production exactly like this concept.

Also, I haven't really been a fan of the new IS so far, but now that I've seen a couple in person I think they could grow on me. And the one shown above is really helping the cause. :D

Great pics. Thanks for the coverage! :)

So how do you manage to get in on press day. Is there some way for a normal dude to get in before the riffraff show up a few days later? I didn't go last year because of the crowds.

I have a friend who hooks me up each year, but later this year I will be launching a professional automotive website. I will then be able to get passes myself, and I don't see why I can't employ a second photographer at that time ;). Keep in touch throughout the year. We'll talk when the next NAIAS rolls around...

Are you a professional photographer? Those pictures are spectacular.

Edit: I think I just answered my own question. Anyway, if you are ever in NC, let me know, I want some pics of mine.

Am I professional? No. But I like to think I do ok for never using a tripod. If the shots were really professional, I'd probably wait for people to get out of the shot if possible. Below is a link to some of my better shots. If I make it to NC, I will def. look you up. And if you ever feel like a road trip, northern MI is stunning in the summer and fall.

edit: oops. forgot the link.

What kind of Lexus was this?

IS 350, with Stoptech brake kit, bbs rims, and some suspension setup that's not stock. Dunno if color is stock or not. Over any other car there thta I could consider buying, I kept coming back to this one. If I had 50k or so for a new car, this would almost certainly be it...

I have video from some of the reveals, as well as video of Travis Barker (of Blink 182) fame playing over songs spun by DJ AM (#1 DJ in LA I believe) at the Cadillac show. I need a host.

No NSX? What a crap show. :D

What's up with the Miura rims... i'm not digging those at all. :( They look suited to a riced prelude. :p I'm also wondering if they'll include any of those design flaws that made it a supercar ... like how the engine would catch on fire, or how the front end gets light as the petrol tank empties, or the petrol fumes in the cabin? Without that, it just not a Miura. :D

I don't know about the Miura, but it has been reported by multiple sources that when the new Challenger was created, it was given extra panel gaps and slightly poor fitting panels to keep it in line with the Challengers of old. If I could actually find where I read this, I'd post it.

Side note: At Meadowbrook (think scaled-down Pebble Beach), A Miura won its category. It was absolutly stunning. And the owner had to push it though the awards ceremony because for some unknown reason, it failed to start. It was most amusing...
