Shortened Shifter Assembly

yes
yes
a lot
performance no
feel yes (smaller shift gate, slicker, tighter)
shifting yes (more effort required - less leverage)
notchy like the OEM (because it is still OEM)

re

How much did it cost you?
was it hard to install/remove the center console?

I llike the short aggressive throws.. I did this to my m3. BUT it required more work to throw it into gear.

Would you say its just as, or notchier then the oem?

thanks

Hello Peter,
I shortened the shifter about 1-2" with a tap and grinded it down some. I then purchased the RSX-R shifter from Dali Racing for like 40 bucks.

The console was easy to take out. It took about 5min(I've done it a few times) The gearbox does feel smoother.

I would advise maybe trying a different shift knob first. Then if you're still not happy, chop down your shifter to your preference.

Good luck, if you need more help or pictures let me know.

So... you can pull out the shifter and shorten it(cut the bottom?) and then put in back?

Z,

I didn't remove the shifter, I just tapped the exsisting threads 1-2" longer and grinded off 1-2" and the knob fit perfect. I was scared to dis-assemble the shift assembly.

sorry if I was unclear.

Thanks so much for the information guys. I've thought about changing out the shift knob to get a lower setting, but I don't want anything with metal. I like the OEM leather, but it is kindof long. I might look into this when I replace my center console. :)

re

Wow that looks sweet...
so not only did you lower it 1-2 inches.. the throw is shorter as well? Since you only chopped off 1-2 inches, does that make a BIG difference in the length of the throw? I'm assuming this would make the shifting feel a tad bit heavier right?
