okay,I work alot and don't get to use my car as much as I would like to.It is a 2001 and I lost my original battery.I purchased a brand new battery and a battery buddy(this hooks up to your battery and when your battery depletes to a certain point the battery buddy cuts it off)Hence your battery will never get the chance to fully deplete.Well,I got in my car today and when I turned the key the interior dash lights started flicking like crazy and I heard a whole lot of clicking!!The car never turned over.I can't figure this one out,it's not like I turned the key and nothing happened!Any ideas what this might be??I will be so pissed if I have to get another battery. Thanks for any input.

My guess would be you have somthing that is draining the current in your car.

Use a mutimeter in series with the positive terminal of the battery. When the car is off is should have a very low current draw. Start pulling fuses until you find the one that is using to much current. This will give you a starting point.

DO NOT TURN YOUR CAR ON WITH THE MULTIMETER HOOKED UP.

Normally newer cars will draw enough current to drain a battery in a few weeks. The problem you have currently sounds like your battery just needs a charge. It is possible that your battery charger isn't functioning or isn't making a good connection. I would try a real battery charger and see if the battery will hold a charge.

Lead acid batteries can be completely drained and recharged without hurting them as long as they don't freeze. If you recently purchased the battery then it should be maintenance free so you won't have to add any fluid.

Good Luck!

The best way to ensure that your battery will keep a charge is too work less and drive the car more! You only live once you know. Do not waste it at work.

My car batter used to die every 3 day (Oddessey battery=motorcyle). I purchase battery maintainer from Sears for $28. Now, I just park the car and walk up to it and plug in the extension cord, problem solve.

the battery buddy is used on recreation vehicles alot and boats so that when u are just running off the batteries it lets you know when there running low.Your better off getting a trickle charger to maintain your battery like it said in the above post and just plug it in when its not in use.I also use one of those low resistance batteries same as an optima battery... they hold a charge longer n charge up faster then lead acid batteries and are lighter as well.

I have one of these and it works great.

I've used these on various batteries that don't get much use and have never had a dead battery. I like the concept of applying a load daily.

No. Remember, it automatically shuts off when the battery is fully charged.

Do you leave yours on when nobody is home?

Sure. In fact, I leave it connected for 4-6 months at a time in winter, and I've done this every winter since I bought my NSX in 1990. As well as any other time when I'm not driving the NSX for more than 7-10 days at a time.

NSXtasy,

I use that same charger (from your recommendation).

Do you leave your hood open, etc to give it proper ventilation, etc? Do you leave the battery cap/screw off to let it breath or do you leave everything buttoned up?

I leave my hood closed. (There's still ventilation from below, though.) (I run a power extension cord from below to plug it in.) And I don't do anything with the battery caps. I just plug the charger in.

I agree, though I don't really practice what I preach.

The battery on my Z #50 died out and won't hold charge after numerous attempts to recharge it. All of this happened the night b4 the last SoCal Canyon Drive about 1 month ago. Needless to say, this setback had kept me busy until 5 in the morning when I finally decided to give in as far as recharging goes and stowed my portable jumper in the back trunk in case I needed to use it. Glad I didn't have to.

Anyway, the day after the run I brought the car to the same dealership where I acquired it. According to them, the battery was covered under warranty so I didn't pay a cent. Since your NSX is 2 years old and was bought as a new car, the warranty is still good and therefore it shouldn't cost you anything to have them replace it.
Good luck.

Since musclesmarinara2's car has had the battery replaced, his battery is covered by whatever warranty it came with, not the car's warranty.

Nsxtasy,

Isn't hydrogen lighter than air?
Doesn't sound like a good practice.

I have seen the same thing happen as you described when a battery charger was still plugged to the car and ignition key was turned on. It might be worth a try to unplug the device from the car and then try to start it.
