ScienceofSpeed Supercharger?

For what is is worth, I have a SOS supercharger installed. I am running a Fcon pro management sytem, kicking 420 hp at the wheels.

Working with Chris, the car had no issues passing our emmssion standards. The Aem unit can pass as well.

My advice, do even hestitate!!!

I was following your work done... so your running low compression 3.0L right with SOS 2.1L charger? 420hp is decent power I was hoping to hit near 400hp stock. I know going well over that hp requires doing some engine work similar to what you have done. Good to hear you got it to pass emissions, did you have to tinker with F/IC or anything when you did get it tested?

Thanks,
Richie

Jim's car is getting our new intercooler. I think it will be making quite a bit more power than that very soon :) We did the emissions testing here in AZ before the car shipped. No tinkering required.

To meet the our emission standards, some tweaking was required on the dyno but not rocket science.

My goals were simple apart from power...reliability and emission compliant. The Arizona emission standard is no different than ours, which made my goal somewhat easy to achieve.

You should touch base with Chris, but I suspect, without a stage 1 build on a 3.0, but with some mods(due to the SC), you should achieve 380 at the wheels. With an intercooler perhaps 400.

When Chris was in TO, we put pushed the car for 2 days. All I can tell you is that it will put a smile on your face ,you will never doubt your decision, and you will say to yourself, this is the way the car should have been built!!!

My goal is to achieve the same as you Power, Reliability, and to meet Ontario Emissions requirements. I figured there might be some kind of tweaking required to get to pass maybe not I guess I won't know that until the car is ready for that step of being tuned? I don't plan in doing any engine internal work even if I run the hp a bit lower to make sure I don't blow anything up.

My 360whp NSX still is plenty powerfull enough for me. 380 in the lighter car would be awesome!

You ALL should buy chargers. It made my car 200% more fun. Id have sold it long ago without it.

Do it. All of you!

Dave you running a stock motor? I also know FX & STMPO have some other Turbo & GMSC options. Not a fan of the huge thing sticking up in the back window... I like the lower profile more stock looking CT & SOS charger.

Already had a run in with the ministry of the environment people a few years back not sure if they are still doing this but I do see the white & green cop looking cars driving around KW. They pulled my brother over in his integra (which was my old car) & inspected it right there on the side of the road to make sure it was emission complaint exhaust, intake, egr, cat, etc. Don't know why it doesn't look like some ricer-mobile it was converted to a stock B16A1 -1.6L VTEC with intake, headers and exhaust all emissions systems in place.

I guess they reserve the right to demand a re-test right then and there if think for whatever reason your car won't pass.... what a pain in the ass! On-road enforcement with the Smog Patrol they set up blitz events last year around the Golden triangle area randomly pulling people over and getting them to follow them into a parking lot for safety & emissions testing for a few hours in the wee hours of the AM. Didn't matter what you drove they still pulled you in there.

Btw I remember looking at an SC Mustang back in the summer as memory recalls it was a Kenne Bell... funny the SC used in the CT & SOS kit looks mistakably similar. I haven't asked CT or SOS yet if it is indeed the same or similar. Google is my friend http://www.kennebell.net/ no listing for NSX though on their site. I do remember reading a post about Driving Ambition's Kenne Bell setup on 3.5L... pretty cool.

Kenne Bell 2.1L SC looks very similar to autorotor CT & SOS versions.... big bore looks crazy

Richie, are you looking at getting into trouble again?....you are researching this SC to the 9th degree.
Are you planning to do Engine mods as well, before you install the SC?
It would be nice when we get all these SC's NSX on the road in the Spring.

No... No Sir... not looking for any trouble... practising my wording to officials for when I get pulled over... pretty sad because its not an 'if' I get pulled over... its more like 'when' I do in KW. lol Its winter and I'm stuck inside all day long my PC, Google, and Long Distance Calls to vendors have replaced being outside on the warm summer days... well for now comon' spring!

I wanted to keep the engine stock other than mods that bolt on which I already have now. Just in case I need to return it to stock nothing will be permanent. How about you Bram doing anything new to your car this season? You should SC yours too... maybe we can work out a discount from them?

I've driven Dave's car. You hear it, but the thrust pushing you through the windshield is very distracting, so I could barely hear any supercharger wine. The exhaust note is great though!

Can you leave the OEM exhaust when you add the supercharger? or is it necessary to add headers in order to get the increase in hp?

Guys, if your hearing goes after installing your SC, that's you problems...as stated, I Hate the wine of an SC.
If more power is your goal, then go for it, all I'm doing is stating my opinion.

The Honda Engineers designed the car to be normally aspirated for a variety of reasons.

When you add more air into the engine, you have to get it out or you cannot make the power you should. I would say H/E are a must if you're doing forced induction, or any NA tuning that puts more air into the cylinders.

I Hate the hi pitch wine of the SC. Plus 290 is more that enough for me and I don't like FI engine, NA is the only way to go IMO.

Bram

I think the older whipple makes a bit more wine noise than the autorotor. Plus you know your getting old when... everyone else's NSX is too loud now ... lol

hi Bram --

I think you'd be surprised how quiet our supercharger is. I'm sure Jim can comment on that. And, I think I could change your opinion on stock power being best within 5 minutes driving one of our supercharged cars! :)

cheers,

Bram - Ya'll jus got served beeyatch!!!

Hey Chris, are all these cars OBDII? Dave's (Biobanker) car is OBDII and NSXCessive is also OBDII. I'd think that if you were using a piggy back OBDII it would be no problem passing emissions with just a little tweaking of the AFR.

But what about OBDI or cars using a full stand-alone EMS? The EGR must be configured or there is no way the car will pass emissions due to excessive NOX output.

Just to state my personal view which I "somewhat" agree with Bram... I'm a purist by nature so most of my work is very OEM / stock-like and "as intended" in spirit. I really do like FI but I'd prefer to do an NA build if I could with similar output. It's much more expensive I guess and probably harder to get that kind of output but that would be the way to go for me.

I want my engine bay to look completely stock if possible.

The louder, the better for me so I don't care about noise and in fact welcome it. For the next little while, I'm going to use temp validation stickers anyway so I can legitimately drive my car with test pipes or my super duper loud emissions failing exhaust system in Toronto!

Chris, I'll have to drive one of the SC NSX's this Spring...let's see.

I guess with an Exhaust you would not hear it much!

No no, not getting Old....
FYI, I just installed a GTLW exhaust on my car just before putting it away for the Winter, so the noise don't bug me.

Hey Chris so would you agree its quieter than the old whipple? I've heard the whipple and I have to say its a bit loud when winding it out... but I thought it sounded awesome.

Can you comment on the loudness with the intercooler installed on your charger. Is it any different louder or quieter with out without it?

We'll give Bram some ear plugs...

I was originally 50/50 weighing out either all NA or FI I know its expensive for either, but NA being alot more to build. I do like the look of the SOS charger it bolts on and looks somewhat stock. Kinda like the car was meant to come that way, and returning the car to stock won't be an issue. I'm all about keeping the car clean looking, as well as the engine bay.

Nice get some clips of it when you do take it out with test pipes & super loud, we'll make it Bram's ringtone on his phone!

What you have a GTLW!? I can't believe you modified your car! Now it will never stop... thats how it starts one day its an exhaust and you'll work your way to FI... or maybe NA in your case!
