Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has done this conversion. Putting a S2000 guage cluster in place of ours. Im not even sure if it would work, but it sure would look great if it could.

Im thinking since they both use standard honda plugs, that it wouldnt be that hard to tie in. Just as long as you use the s2000 gauge with the higer red line.

Thanks.

I'm sure with enough time and money, you can get anything to work. I'd opt for a Stack display (www.stackinc.com) before I tried using the S2000 gauges. In my mind, it would be a bit of a step down anyway, no matter now nice the S2000 gauges are. I am pretty biased in favor of Stack though.

Yea i looked at them, but they didnt do it for me.

Im hoping someone already has done the s2000, and will post a write up to make my job easier.

Thanks for your input.

THE S2000 digital display cluster is indeed fancy.
but it will look funny because the s2k's gauge unit is tiny.
ever sat inside a s2k after driving a nsx? everything about the car is damn tiny.

look into cold cathode lighting. it might be a nice alternative if youre looking to upgrade.

if DEFI made a nice RPM and Speedo in the BF series, I know what i have plans for

I love the Stack. :) They make a carbon fiber housing for the NSX that you can get from Science of Speed, and it's alot more functional than the S2000 gauges. They have them with so many options, that it would save you from having to get other misc gauges as well. I personally think it would be less expensive than the S2000 gauges, and look alot better. It is by far one of the most complemented mods on my cars. Mugen also makes some cool displays IIRC. If you are dead set on the S2000 setup, it would be a big help if you could get the gauges with the connectors and about a foot of the wiring attached. If tach signal, fuel, and speed are triggered differently, you could have some serious work getting that to work correctly, which is another benifit of the Stack since it is fully programmable, plus it will be alot easier to get support for the install. Good luck either way.

Thanks for the input guys, im stuck on wanting the s2000 cluster. The stack is just not the look i want.

Thanks.

HEY!!!Where did you get a picture of my new interior. Plus you got it backwards!:D!:D!

I'm sure it can be made to work. I've seen a Civic with an S2000 cluster in it. I don't like the S2000 cluster, so I don't see the appeal in the swap, but different strokes as the phrase goes.

When they did it they used the s2k harness and then wired up everything from there.

JDM - Fortunately, for you, honda has a tendancy to use a lot of the same sensors. If you're really considering doing this, your best bet would be to get the wiring diagrams of both the nsx and s2k clusters and see which goes where... i doubt the plugs would even fit so you'd either have to make a pigtail or cut your nsx harness behind the cluster.

I'm sure you can get it done... but it may prove to be more intensive than you think.

good luck,
x

Lucky for you guys I just happened to pick up a crashed s2000 a few weeks ago. I will pull out the cluster and see whats what.I may even have a junk harness laying around to pirate pigtails from.

The wiring is typically the easy part. All you need are the electrical diagrams from both vehicles to match them up. The hard part is fabricating a case for the cluster to properly fit the car since there would be a difference in cluster size. I speak from experience, having installed a digital cluster from a Mazda 626 in my 88 Honda Prelude. Works beautifully, but ugly as sin from the complete difference in how the clusters sit in the car.

if anyone can find or make the pinout diagram for the NSX gauge cluster and or plugs, i can make the S2000 cluster work and fit in the NSX.

It's in the service manual, this is how we installed my stack display.

The S2000 cluster should be a straight forward retrofit, there are several converter boxes available with the s2000 cluster in mind for other Honda vehicles.

the manual is super thick. what exact pages did you find the color coded wires and pin out info on?

i have a fully operational ap2 cluster in my ITR right now but want to put it in my nsx for kicks

I've seen couple of S2000 digital gauge clusters on 86 corollas when they swap F20C motors. Pretty sick not my cup of tea though. If it can be done in a corolla, it can be done with our cars.

found the pages that are useful
not exactly the way i wanted it, but will work.
i'll have to make an excel chart to make it easier for quick cross reference

from the download-able 1991 NSX PDF. service manual
pages 1109 -1113

or chapter 23-123 through 23-127

problem#1 - s2k has 4 cyl , nsx has 6

Funny, one of the things I hate about the S2K is the disco gauge package that looks like something out of the 80's. Whereas the NSX has the classic, intelligent, instrumentation package. To each his own but just seems like a whole lot of work to downgrade the car. If you get it to work, would love to see pictures of it, maybe it'll look better than I can picture.

the cluster can infact work. one of the big problems is...the vehicle speed sensor reads different than the way that ours works. there are a few companies that can make a conversion harness...or you can work with Mark
at http://www.marklamond.co.uk/products/s2000/s2000.htm and he can re-program your s2k cluster to the correct mileage...redline and make sure your heat temp etc all works... you will have to modify your wiring harness on the nsx unless you build yourself a jumper harness like you would do on an obd2 to obd1 conversion like we used to on integras and civics etc. im in the process of trying to decide weather i want to continue with this endevor...i bought a s2k cluster specifically for this reason...now im second thoughts..id be fun though...ive done some test fits and it doesnt look to bad. i'll try and find the pics...another thing you can do is buy the converter box from www.dscustoms.com (be patient he's making a new webpage) its a box that goes inline for your VSS and makes the cluster work in your car. i like this option as well...so if you rim up or down...there is an adjustment on the back so you can calibrate and have the mph's dead on. http://www.dscustoms.com/s2000cluster.htm is the copy to his site...keep checking back...its usually up. he has most pinouts for most cars...but you'll most likely need the one for the nsx...as of yet...i have not seen the s2k cluster in our cars...i was going to do a how to when i got mine done :) after having my son a month ago...the nsx has kinda been on the back burner.. i just got my 02 headlights seibon nsxr hood and downforce bumper last week too. i got as far as the hood on and headlights removed and cut.. i dont want to look like a druggy working on my car at 3am because my sons asleep and thats my "me" time lol. so...i'll have the second brooklands green 02 conversion that ive found on prime. any questions send me a pm and good luck with your s2000 cluster !

i did the adapter harness and calibration myself and it came out very nice.
took a few tries with a gps and pacing another car.
everything works and the speed is dead on.

good luck to you, it'll be a fun project.

did you know i built that other brooklands with the 02-R conversion?

yes sir.

ive been following many of your posts for quite a while. that car was my inspiration to complete mine. as far as a brooklands green with the 02 front...our two are the only ones ive found!? thanks for the dupport :)

i remember seeing a s2k cluster adaptor a while back. i think it allows you use the s2k in many models.
