Run Cool Hood Louvers ?

I'm starting to clean up the underside of my car, with front bumper and battery undertrays. I'm thinking maybe hood louvers would address cooling concerns, rather than ducting or other approaches. Anyone done this, or has ideas about this?

I've been thinking about installing louvers into my front undertray as well. Right now I have a flat undertray without vents and the air that has passed through the radiator exits beneath the frame rails into the wheel wells. I don't track my car but on public roads, I've never noticed that the oil or water temperatures were any higher with the undertray in place. However, I suspect that the aerodynamic drag of the car would be decreased if the radiator air exited down and out at the back of the front compartment instead of into the wheel wells. I need to check how much space there is between the front cross beam and the front firewall and then which three louvers would fit in there.

Oldduffer:
Are you actually having cooling problems? If so, what's the condition of your rad?

Have you completely blocked off your underhood? If no, you're probably not seeing much more blockage than having the spare in there (right behind the rad).

A NSX-R hood would open up your hood. But there are other designs out there, possibly including louvers.

Greenberet:
You're probably splitting hairs in terms of drag. Pull in your side mirror, and you'll see a higher reduction in drag.

Typically you'll want to vent the hot air up and over the car to help generate front end downforce. Pushing it down will make lift, but again, we're splitting hairs here, especially at street legal speeds..

My under nose OEM stuff is all broken up, its been taped up with duct tape for awhile. I decided to follow some others example and make my own under tray for the nose and battery area. My radiator has lots of bent fins, so it's not at peak either. So in anticipation of going NSXPO in Palm Springs and other hot spots next year, I'm replacing the radiator too. My car has 140K miles on it.

The full-body underneath tray on my "other car" is dimpled like a golf ball...maybe 1/2" dimples.

I'm running one that Carboy made custom, from sheet aluminum. Flat underbody for aero is the idea... I haven't seen the df one though.
