Good deal! Hopefully this guy serves some time and learns a lesson, but probably won't.
Congrats to Rick and to the society.
You are absolutely right. These people will NEVER learn or change. I can understand that some small time shoplifters only steal because they are so so desperate to meet the bare necessities and yet they know they are doing the wrong deeds. These criminals are rehabilitable and can again become good citizens.
With this scumbag driving a BMW and going on a robbing spree, he simply has no respect for his fellow citizens' right and wellbeing. He simply does not feel that he is doing anything wrong. In fact many of these garbages think they are smarter and above their victims. To have successfully gained their victims' losses further strengthen their beliefs and disrespect. When I did pyschiatry rotation in Baltimore, I frequently evaluated these anti-social scumbags. These people are the worst among the criminals. They are sociopaths, namely antisocial personality disorder. These guys have absolutely NO REMORSE whatsoever. They spend most of their life in trouble starting from childhood bullying, stealing, lying, molesting, and whatever crimes they are capable of at that ages. They either are in jail or robbing/raping/killing/stealing in the cummunity. While I was interviewing these criminals, I could only ask plainly and report in the same manner without expressing my own ethical values. Trust me, knowing their crimes and motives, ANY upstanding citizen WILL want to drag them in a dungeon and beat the shit out of them with a baseball bat.
Yes, many of us can sit in the comfort of our own homes belittling our police officers for their "brutalities" while they have absolutely NO idea what kind of risks and dangers these officers deal with. We often hear that some cop shot some "unarmed" guy and the society accuse these cops for using "excessive" forces. If I put you in the same shoe by imagining an unarmed guy attacking you out of nowhere, you would end up using the same level of force. Not only you have no idea what that guy is capable of, whether he has a weapon, nor his intention, you will certainly NOT going to give him the benefit of the doubt for NOT having a weapon. A split second of that doubt can easily cost your life. I am certain that if you and your family is in danger by an intruder, you WILL not spare a second to find out if he has a real or fake gun. Even the intruder only has a knife or even bare hands, you would shoot his face when he is running towards you. I know I WILL because I will lose EVERYTHING if he has the intention to kill me. But I am not going to make that gamble. Without knowing his intention, you can pretty much just shoot yourself if you are too timid to defend yourself and your family. Criminals will ALWAYS have the upper hand of any situations. In a stand of, the shithead does not need to worry about if he would hurt anyone, he just does not care. A cop in that situation ALWAYS needs to worry about his own safety, bystanders', and the criminals'. I don't think any cop would want to make a mistake by killing that criminal and then get roasted by the society and his career ruined. But with that extra caution and respect for others, the criminal gained control of the situation entirely. He has the choice to surrender so everyone is happy. He can also pretend to surrender and shoot the cop when the cop's attention slips for a millisecond knowing that the cop is NOT going to shoot him out of nowhere.
Recently, 4 officers got gunned down by a piece of dirt in Oakland. Why? Because the officers had respect for other people's safety, and the dirtbag had not. That split second of doubt cost them their lives.
Most of my interactions with officers have been from traffic violations. You can imagine how thrilled I am to have to pay for all these tickets. Yeah, a few times I had to endure some attitude but I don't think in anyway these unpleasant moments come close to the shit that the officers have to deal with daily. I feel much happier and safer to have these guys around. Surely, there are bad apples in every professions, but do you just assume all apples are bad based on just a few ones?
