Dead at 86 from pneumonia. The All American Racer, one the best this country has produced. To all those who knew him and to those who did only by name, he was a true gentleman and a hero of ours.

Yes indeed, the Gurney flap and the tradition of spraying champagne on the podium!
Not too many people know that in the early summer of 1967, he won the 24 hours of Le Mans and a week later won the Belgian GP in his own-built car. How is that for a racing record?
 
Dan/Carol/Phil

Dan, Phil Hill, Carol Shelby came to La Jolla some time ago signing art work to raise $ for the SD Children Museum, I was the guest photographer so had a special front row seat hanging with these 3 legends of our time. Dan signed my AAR denim shirt:smile:.....:grief: Carol did have a young GF there with him.:biggrin:
