Hi- will be replacing the T-stat in a few days or so, is there anything unique I should know about, other than the basics?? thanks

not much, just be sure to drain as much as ya can first, and wash off any immediatly, dont want it to sit on any painted parts....

remember to bleed system afterwards...

Also make sure you use HONDA colant for it, I think its about 12 bucks a gallon or so at HONDA dealer...

HTH

ANy difference in the HONDA coolant???

also, I was reading the service manual(93)
and it said to use all new o-rings/gaskets...are they any in this replacement?? don't want to get stuck due to this issue...

The main one at the neck assembly. Get it with the t-stat

the manual shows the full removal, with O-ring replacement, for just changing the thermo, you only have to remove the "thermo cover", not the "water passage".

there are only two bolts, 10mm if I remember correctly.

take bolts off, and then you can pull the "thermo cover" off, and remove the thermo, then install the new thermo.

Make sure to install with the spring side the same way you removed it, and that the dot on the thermo, is at the top.

when you get the thermo out, note the placement of the rubber ring, it has 3 points on it, you want to match those point locations with the new rubber ring included with your thermo.

then install thermo, dot at the top, same side facing in.

bolt it back together, and then get ready to spend some time bleeding the system.

be sure to wash any spilled colant immediatly, and watch out if you have animals, they love that stuff, and it will kill em....

You might want to consider the MUGEN thermostat. It opens at a lower temperature.

hmm I have a side question Id like to ask about this....

just slightly off topic...

being as the ECU sets idle based on colant temp, would installing a thermo that opens at a lower temp than expected by the ECU cause any issues?

I have always been told not to change thermos like this because of new cars computers expecting certain temps, and with a thermo opening sooner, it would lower temp, and potientially cause issues...

I dont know if this applies to NSX, so just thought Id ask...

TIA
