Yeah, it's been asked about a million times. My recommendation is to go for it.

I've been struggling with this question for almost 18 years now................. Surprisingly, it has red paint under the black top.

A thread like this is a great way to make friends with 1/3rd the owners on this forum, and have another 1/3rd hate you -- no matter what decision you make.

ps. the other 1/3rd have Targa tops so they dont care about roof colour. :D hehe

My roof needs painting also and I am struggling with exactly the same question. I like the look of the all red car but do I want to change the original color. I'm just not sure. Let me know what you decide.

When I got mine, I really wanted to have the roof painted red to match, but my black roof has really grown on me and now I prefer NSX's that way. Gives it a much slimmer look overall. Gives it a unique look as well and is becoming the trend again...look at the 599xx and the ZR-1. I think also doing a Type R wing on a black roof car really ties the whole look together.
Maybe do a carbon wrap on the roof for something different.

Mine is a silver 91 and I really wanted the early cars for one reason - the roofs were black. My silver car looks great with the black roof - that makes the cars looks in my opinion. I actually don't know why NSX moved away from making the coupes - but the coupes have black roofs in all years they were produced I believe. They should never have stopped offering that as an option. It's cool - that's my 2 cents worth.

I'm of a fan of symetry, so I vote for the color matched roof. It makes the car look more substantial and less dated. Also not all coupes comes with the black roofs, most of the green cars have color matched roofs and black cars of course.

I assume then that your car has a green roof ?

It may look a little less dated but substantial - I totally disagree. That black roof was copied by many. The "stupid" Camaro copied it and that made it look dated and there were others too - they just crapped up a great design idea. The NSX made it look right! Just right.

To me it's just the opposite - I believe the lack of the black roof makes them look less substantial and sleek. So you see how it's a subjective thing entirely. It's an OPINION.

We don't have to agree and that's the beauty of things - as my Dad said it would be a mighty boring world if everyone thought the same.

Yes my car does have a green roof, a green car with a black roof is pretty rare. I guess Honda realized that green can't pull it off to well so they made it color matching. The only color that I like with a black roof is in champion white for the NA2 R model, and even than I like the color matching roof like on Tsuchiya's personal NSXR

Now that is sexy

Go painted. I did on my '94 and it makes it look much more updated. Do you want to be comparred to Camaro's?

Also, just the fact that Tim doesn't like it is reason enough to paint the roof. J/K Tim!

Your killing me with this stuff.:biggrin: So Doc which NSX are you driving now? Are your NSXs still RIP? Did you guys watch that video that _tat sent??? Well you should - you'll have both cases presented. Both are nice I might add - so anyway -although (you knew I wasn't finished did ya) the guy with the all white NSX R had white wheels - and just that black R rear spoiler. It's COOOOOOL ok really waaaay cool. There hope your happy:biggrin: I'll take one. Did you see that dash - now where did he get all that custom stuff - it is super tastefull - everyone look at that. Good stuff.

I bought a black car because it was the only color offered in the early years with the same color roof. I am not a fan of two-tone paint. It has grown on me, but mostly the NSX-R clones.

My one and only NSX is sitting in the garage recouperating from it's major service that was just done last week. The 23 hose bypass surgery is taking a little longer to heal than expected. But don't worry, she'll be up and at'em running up to watch the Sebring 12hr this weekend.

Hey Doc,

You know I had that same by pass surgery and you know I had a leak, a small leak from one of the hoses to I think it was the overflow bottle - anyway it was coolant. That's right - I remember- Barney told me that sometimes they leak just a bit when they first put the clamps back on till they seat in- if that's what's happening - it will cure itself - yeah - sometimes that happens. Barney told me it would and it did! So if this is your issue fear not. Do you live near Sebring? Wish I was going. Have fun - will you be in the infield?

If you looked at mine in all its shiny silver glory against that black top - you'd like it.....or else....lol

I've owned both and have to say black roof is the way to go. I have zero regrets.
Here's an older pic. I will have updated pics soon

Love them Both equally BUT, stock vs stock the red painted roof for me looks a lot less dated ..... then i have a BUT again, if you take a black roof, do like the example bellow, OMG .. IMHO that looks extremely HOOOTTT

nsx_roof.jpg

car above is mine --as now-- on left, on the right, same car but I photoshopped what IMHO is the way to go if you happen to have the black roof, man, that IMHO is the way i'd do if my car came with the black coupe ...

In fact, i hope some day I can afford to get a beat up 91 dirt cheap and do that .. 02+ wheels in GM, 02 rear, type-R bits .. lower, spacers, and voila, CURRENT and HOT! -no bug eyes needed either lol-

LOL like, Jeff's car above my post, lol, dammit I didn't need to photoshop mine :D
