Recommend a floor jack?

I changed the oil in my NSX yesterday. I was forced to use the NSX jack initially because my floor jack is between 1/2 to 1 inch too high to use with the NSX.

Would like to buy another that works with a non-lowered NSX. Don't care about the brand name and prefer not to spend a bunch on it.

Recommendations please.....Thanks.

I use an aluminum jack that looks just like the Sears jack that "Chris NSX" suggested. I purchased mine at "Harbor Freight" for around $140. I have used this jack a lot and really enjoy it.

Be sure to get a set of 4 jack stands if you are going to do any work on your car.

Don't waste money on a floor jack. Use a drill with the NSX jack. Just insert the crank into your drills chuck and presto an electric floor jack that will fit under any of our cars for FREE:cool: . Save you money for jack stands.

Hi--I just went through the process of finding an appropriate jack and settled on a Torin Big Red low-profile jack. I got it at Pep Boys for $109 and it included 2 jack stands with it. It's capacity is 3 tons and max height is 17.5". It's lowest point is only 3.5 " so it slips under the NSX with problem. I think that this particular jack is on ebay right now as well.

I also ran across an electric jack ( 2-ton capacity) which plugs into your cigar lighter located at Harbour Frieght. This would likely be good for the road, but it only raises the vehicle to about 14" so it may not be adequate if you need to crawl under the car.

I got my aluminum floor jack from Costco for about $100. Forgot the exact price. Bought it about 6 months ago. Works great.

I second this one... I've had an aluminum racing jack for about two years and it's great! VERY light weight, low profile, and durable. My car is lowered 1.25 inches and it fits underneath just fine...

Almost every jack on the market specifies the minimum lift height on the box. The jacking points of an NSX that hasn't been lowered are roughly 4.75" above the ground. Many jacks can only handle 5.5" so avoid those. Some of the so-called "low profile" "racing jacks" have minimum lift heights in the 3.0-3.5" range, which is fine.

In shopping for jacks, note that some are big and heavy. These are better if you do a lot of work on your car - the extra "footprint" makes it more stable - and it's always in your garage, so you rarely have to pick it up, just roll it around. Others are lightweight and compact, which are perfect if you need to move it to multiple locations and you don't need to do much underneath the car. That's why I love the 91039 jack from Harbor Freight, which only weighs 24 pounds and fits sideways on the floor of the passenger compartment. I take this jack to the track for swapping to my track tires (which I bring with me inside the car) and occasional brake pad swaps.

Check this out... air jacks!

I like this jack. Is this jack self contain, or do you need an external source to operate this jack (i.e. a plug or compress air hose)? If it is self contain, then there is no need for the jack in your trunk.

Saw the air hose (edited)

There are 2 Harbor Freights in town (1 south on lamar and one north by Fry's). Many times it is on sale there for $69. That is where I got mine

It looks like the Harbor Freight unit is $85 plus shipping. Costco has what seems to be the same unit (brand = Torin) for $99.

Thanks for the tips!

Don't worry so much about the no name brands. I think they are all made in China.

What's the story about those air jacks on the white car!?! How do they mount, how do they work, where do you get them, are they good, etc, etc?

And what do the folks on the "official weight reduction thread" have to say about the air jacks?

Yup,,, Costco. It's a "fast up" type. I've got wings west side skirts with the car lowered 1 1/2 and it slides "smooth under".

Just an FYI. I ordered the Torin 1 1/2 ton aluminum jack from Northern Tools for $79.95 plus shipping to Texas. Costco has that jack for $99.95 now. Pep Boys was worse. I went to Harbor Freight for the first time and they had the same jack (different brand on the box) for $89.95. Wow what a sorry place Harbor Freight is. Some of the crappiest tools I've ever seen. Some of it is expensive - mostly the small stuff. Harbor would have been slightly cheaper with sales tax but I was ordering from Northern anyways.

Hey NAPA sells a super low profile All steel floor jack, I have SIX of these in my shop and they LOVE NSX'S , even the lowest cars we can carefully raise.
Monday I will post the part# I think i paid less than 200.00 each
