Recent Nsx Compliments anyone?

I was driving to work on Tuesday morning with the top off, as it was finally a warm enough day. A construction worker in his truck behind me practically fell out of the window as he was asking me what kind of car it was, as he had never seen any "Akera" like this. I told him and he said it was beautiful. Amazing to think that people still do not know the car even after 12 years.

mustang cobra, m3, s4, clk55, not sure about the subaru vrx and boxter s.

hmm what year cobra? 03: yes 99 and below: nope. M3? What year? Even the new ones comes down to the driver. NSX 0-60: 5.7 M3: 5.5 Subaru VRX? I beg to disagree...I beat one tonight. WRX? Maybe with some turbo work. Boxster S? Hmmmm haven't raced one yet...only old perv's drive them

I got a large number of thumbs up from a group of Harley riders.

Kids always ask me to light em up, I don't.

I get Daaammmnn an awful lot.

The other day kids called it Premium Rice.

OK, I can't help it... I have to contribute. Wife and I are out last Sat. night. Drop her off in front of a shop at a popular mall. I'd rather not go in w/her so I pull into a parking spot near the shop she went in. Its near closing and the lot is only half full so I have a row to myself. Sitting in the car looking through a couple of magazines minding my own business I hear the sounds of female voices nearby, however I don't want tolook directly up only glancing just for a moment b/c its clear their make comments about the car. To my horror its two very large bleach blonde bag carrying bombers making tracks toward the car and i'm not kidding when I say making tracks. One of them says " Hey can we have a ride in your Ferrari ". A real chic magnet the NSX is !

Had a few thumbs up from a few people (Including people in Mustangs and Vettes, Motor city is nice to cars regardless) a few good (and possibly bad) ones:

1) Drove to turn off on a road, and across the road a guy with a hot chick was driving a Firebird. The girl gawked at my car, pointed at my car and was probably asking what car that was. Wonder what his response was, but Im guessing he must be pissed that his girl was gawking at another car other than his.

2) Driving to work, and saw this state cop car in my rear view mirror pull behind me and leans forward and up, probably to look at my license plate. Then saw him turn to his right and looked down at his center console. Guess he was typing my plate # in his computer, seeing what kind of car it was, and probably seeing if it was stolen or something. That was a bit of a tense moment.

Amazing what passes for information around here.

At least someone here knows what he's talking about. Pretty close, spookyp, except that the Viper isn't cheaper than the NSX.

No doubt the nsx can out track the rest of those cars but not 0-60. maybe even 1/4mi.

Wrong, Stacey. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Shame on you.

Some of these cars may have more horsepower, but they're heavy cars, and they are indeed slower than the NSX.

Mustang Cobra - the Cobra R (all 300 cars sold), roughly even with the NSX. Other Mustang Cobras before 2003, no. The new ones are about even with the NSX, but not faster.

S4 - you're kidding, right? Not even close.

CLK55 - Nope.

The WRX (not vrx) - nope.

Boxster (not Boxter) - nope, not even close.

You might want to look up some figures in the magazines. There are some cars that are faster than the NSX, but the ones other than those mentioned by spookyp cost a lot more than an NSX and have names like 911 Turbo and 360 and Z8.

WTF??? Your numbers are as wrong as Stacey's statements. Are you trying to scam us, Brian?

According to the tests published in the leading magazines, typical 0-60 figures are as follows:

3.0-liter 5-speed NSX Coupe: 5.2
3.0-liter 5-speed NSX-T: 5.5
3.2-liter 6-speed NSX-T: 4.8
3.2-liter 6-speed NSX Coupe: 4.6

Compare these with:

E36 M3: 5.7
E46 M3: 4.9

I was in a turn lane once two years ago and a Viper pulled up next to me, revved it and gave me a thumbs up. That was nice.

I think I passed on the road the all-time best set of NSX gawkers - a school bus full of high school baseball players! You could almost see the bus lean over as everyone moved to the right of the bus to get a better look. You can be sure I passed it V E R Y slowly (might as well give em a good look!

I'd agree with everything you said, except for the Cobra part. 03 Cobra's are running BPU Supra's and are either staying fairly even or getting slowly walked. A stock NSX vs. a BPU Supra? Please, a BBSC NSX would be about a fair match.

The numbers you've quoted are the absolute best that NSX's of those trims have ever seen. Maybe for consistency's sake, pull them all from the same source... Car and Driver, rsportscars.com, wherever.

Just as a reference, and not to assume that power/weight ratio automatically means one car is faster than another, but:

(hp/kg)
Zanardi NSX: .219
Corvette Coupe: .239
'03 SVT Cobra: .234

The Corvette and Cobra clearly have a higher power/weight than the Zanardi NSX. But like I said things like gearing, weight transfer characteristics, grip, aren't seen in pure power/weight's.

Its splitting hairs anyways, it'd come down to drivers in most cases. Point is we all love NSX's and I think we can agree on that.

No wonder you didn't want to go in with your wife.

So what was their reaction when you told them it wasn't a Ferrari?
wink.gif

1) Stopped at a stoplight next to a Goodyear garage in town - couple of mechanics at bay door point at my car then wave four guys over!

2) Stopped at stop sign leaving my neighborhood - neighbor in front of me in antique pick-up (antique plates, cherry red finish) gets out to adjust his load and walks back to me, says "love your ride".

Mustang Cobra - the Cobra R (all 300 cars sold), roughly even with the NSX.

WOW!!! You're the one scamming us!! Being a former/current Mustang buff, the Cobra R will eat an NSX. Not "roughly even". But then you must sacrifice no radio or A/C and no power locks/windows, but one HELL of a car.

03 cobras run low 13s stock...why would it be so hard for a zanardi to keep up? Now, for $1000 or so dollars the 03 cobra can break low 12s (lightning pulley belt, slicks, exhaust)

oh and NSXtasy: I'm scamming you?
smile.gif
You just repeated almost everything I just said!!! U should have just quoted me!! (oh and the mag i looked at (sports car registry) had the NSX listed at 0-60 in 5.7 and the M3 hard top in 5.5)

NSXtasy is correct...

The Lotus Esprit is one car that I forgot that is good competition for the NSX and is quicker, but typically, the NSX will be cheaper since Honda is willing to deal a lot more than the typical Lotus dealer. In addition, the Lotus tends to take a bigger beating on resale, which may matter to some folks.

Most everything else I'm seeing here is already (and as usual) moving into the territory of modded cars. That becomes a pointless debate and really isn't worth continuing. When did TOYOTA sell BPU Supras? Answer: Never. I don't care if the mods are FREE, it's still a modded car. Same thing for Mustangs with pullies, headers, etc.

The Cobra R was slightly quicker than a REGULAR Corvette C5 and had a big pricetag and no creature comforts. It's a car that was *slightly* quicker than the NSX and cheaper, but it was very limited in production and is gone.

The current 03 Cobra (NOT MODDED) is not faster than a Corvette C5 and not faster than an NSX.

The 5.7 sec 0-60 figure is for the AUTO NSX (which I am proud to own!) NO manual tranny NSX has ever posted numbers that high. For the record, the auto Porsches and Corvettes aren't quick either (neither is the auto Supra) unless they are modded.

I think we at least need to agree on THIS BOARD that the NSX is not "slow" by normal, production car, standards, if we expect ANYONE else to respect it.

Get real. According to Road & Track (Aug 2002), the SVT Mustang Cobra does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, which is about the same as a 3.2-liter NSX-T. Not faster. You can look it up yourself.

That's why we have a problem here - some people are going around making statements that the NSX is slow because it's slower than such-and-such car, which is NOT TRUE, but people are believing these false statements.
pat.gif
Even though they are presented without any references to back them up.

Wrong again, Rubber Chicken. I guess you want to hang your hat with the "Get It Wrong Gang".
rolleyes.gif

I did NOT quote Sports Car International (12/90), which tested the 3.0-liter NSX Coupe at 5.03 seconds.

I did NOT quote Car and Driver (7/98), which tested the 3.2-liter NSX Coupe at 4.5 seconds.

I purposely did not quote these figures because they seem a bit faster than the figures I did quote, which are far more typical.

Also the last generation Esprit is faster at about the same price.

No one in North America bothers mentioning the Esprit because so few of them are sold here.

Isn't it funny how people make wild-@$$ claims like this, but the tests by the major magazines continually prove them wrong?

For example, Road & Track (Apr 2000) tested the Cobra R at 4.8 seconds. And you can look it up yourself.

Sure, it's quick - about as quick as a new NSX-T, and not as quick as a 3.2-liter NSX Coupe or Zanardi.

At least we already expected Brian to be, ah... pulling our leg.

Sports Car Registry? Never heard of it. Maybe it's published by Internet Scammers International...
biggrin.gif

But I have heard of magazines like these:

3.0-liter 5-speed NSX Coupe: 5.2 (Car and Driver, 9/90)
3.2-liter 6-speed NSX-T: 4.8 (Motor Trend, 5/97)
3.2-liter 6-speed NSX Coupe: 4.5 (Car and Driver, 7/98), although I quoted 4.6 above

E46 M3 6-speed: 4.8 (Car and Driver, 12/00)
E46 M3 SMG: 4.9 (Road & Track, 3/03)

And these are the major car magazines published in this country. You can look those figures up yourself if you like. They're not just statements I decided to pull out of my

I totally agree with NSXTASY with all his number according to my magazine collections (more than three years of "Car and Driver," and two years of "Motor Trend," but I guess it's not too much compare to NSXTASY)

lol... ken's da man alright!

WHO'S THE DADDY OF NSX-INFO??? Ken is!

he's a walking dictionary of NSX knowledge... for example, if we ask him what the 3rd gear ratio figures for a stock '93 NSX is... he'll probably know.

btw ken, did u ur order from Oz come thru?

I'll find out over the weekend...

I would have thought Washingtonians were relatively jaded when it comes to nice cars b/c there are plenty of tech millionaires, athletes & their exotic cars here. Well, this was a particularly great weekend for the NSX as the weather was the nicests it's been since the thaw of winter. I spotted an early black NSX on Fri. nite after work & then later an '02 silver downtown. On Sunday I spotted a green NSX-T on my way to Georgetown for brunch. Well once I got into G'town, I was the only exotic until I noticed in my rear view while stuck at a light a Ferrari 456 directly behind me. Then I hear someone yelling in my direction from across the street & looked over. It was a brother in his Cadillac STS w/ w/ some 20" dubs asking me if it was an NSX? I nodded & he gave me the thumbs up & yelled out nice ride! He was totally oblivious the Ferrari behind me. I looked in my rear view & saw the the Ferrari guy w/ a smirk, shaking his head as if in disagreement. What a feeling! Now, if it had been any other Ferrari, I'm sure it might have been the other way around. I guess the 456 just does not have that exotic appeal.

#1 - I was driving to the country club with my 5 year old son one beautiful Saturday afternoon. The NSX was really looking stylish with Zaino's drippy shine. The new bride and groom were taking pictures with their large entourage. The entire group in formation looks away from the camera to ogle my other baby's sleek curves and lines. My son and I smile and laugh as we drive to the range.

#2- Driving Pacific Coast Highway in sunny Laguna Beach, I pull up to a stoplight with a mirrored building on my corner of the intersection. It is the first time I have ever seen myself driving the sleekest and coolest car in the world. Life doesn't get any better than this.

#1 I was stopped crossing the Swiss/German border by an officer. I thought "What the...." but it turned out that he just wanted to talk about NSXes.
#2 Filling gas outside of Frankfurt, I was approched by a Ferrari-driver who was curious about my car. (Never happens when driving my other Honda...)
#3 Passing three guys working on an old Volvo, one of them popping his head up from the engine so fast that I am sure you still can se the bump in the Volvos hood.
