RacingBrake calipers

I'm in process of buying RacingBrake oversized rotors for front and rear. I'm contemplating whether I should go their 4-pot calipers up front, or stick with OEM calipers.

I'm not a "door-to-door" racer, but I do occasional club day "sprints" as they're called down here, and was keen to hear pros or cons on this brake upgrade from anyone who's gone down this path.

thanks ...

One of the best options would probably be a Brembo "Lotus" 4 piston front caliper and leave the stock rear alone. This is a fairly balanced setup on Ryneen's car and it's more than capable for slicks and R-compound use.

I don't recommend the brand nor their setup.. do a search on them you will find out.

I'll try aerorotors as your next step.

I'm with you on that, the products are questionable at best, and their customer service is worse than garbage, after the way I was treated by the owner after simply trying to buy his product, I actually threw some of his crap in the garbage, it was still new in packages.

Total loss.

I would agreed, something as critical as the brake system, spend a little extra and go with a unit that's been proven.

If a few people got together for a group buy, I'm sure AP Racing could be talked into making a run of the F/R systems that were specifically perfected for the NSX. There are few running around in Europe, with rave reviews coming from their owners. They are for the serious track guys, yet are setup for every day street use (dust seals, parking brake, etc.).

I think you can buy them from KVR

Which company has put together AP racing kits for the Europeans? Earlier this year I was chasing a kit through SoS based on the AP racing calipers, but the mob in Canada who made the rotor kits (KVR) stopped supplying NSX kits. I was really keen on the AP racing calipers, and I would be interested in chasing that option again.

AP Racing themselves engineered a complete system a few years back. These are the same group of guys that do the OE work McLaren, Koenigsegg, Lotus, Bugatti and a bunch more -- 8 out of the top 10 on Top Gear's Lap Chart. Contact the USA importer Stillen for more details.

I tried to do the search and I didn't come up with anything in particular. Can you guys expand on the issues with the Racing Brake kits? I just recently purchased the oversized 13" rotor kit based on the recommendation of some other members, SOS, and DaliRacing (however am still running the OEM calipers). I'd like to know so I can keep an eye out for potential issues down the road. TIA!

Adrian, as long as your kit bolts up and works without issue, you are fine - but god help you if one of your parts is wrong or breaks. This guy (I think his name was Warren) is a total jerk - he yelled at me and told me I didn't know what I was doing...

He was right, I have no idea why I bought his crap.

I have no experience with RB's calipers - I use Brembo GT front and OEM rear.

However, I have had 2pc OEM RB rotors on the front and 1pc on the rear and tracked it A LOT.

Then when I upgraded to Brembo GTs on the front, I installed their 328mm slotted rings to replace my cross-drilled Brembo rotor rings. They were 1/2 the price of the Brembo replacements. ($600 vs $300). I have been very happy with them, even with HEAVY track use. The original Brembo cross-drilled lasted 4 track days before cracks developed to the edge and over the top, so I replaced them with the RB slotted rings.

The rear 1pc RB slotted lasted 3 years before a major crack destroyed them. That's 3 years of 10+ weekends of heavy track use. I haven't gotten around to measuring the rotor that failed, but I would bet it's probably close to min spec so I don't hold the failure against RB - after all that's 30+ days of abuse on the track with racing pads (Carbotech XP10, Hawk HP+, Hawk Blues, Cobalt Friction XR3).

Angus, the person I talked to at RB was very nice and very helpful ~ but then again, that was during the sale, I don't have any bad experiences with them as I have never had a problem with their rotors. I may replace the rear OEMs with their +2 328mm rotor kit that has the extension bracket. This should help a little with my front bias due to the Brembo GT on the front. I would like to put Brembo GTs on the rear but I can't justify the $3000.

The only negative I have seen with RB are the street/track pads...which a friend of mine managed to completely delaminate in one 20-minutes session at TGP Raceway (on an STI-swapped WRX wagon). The pad completely disintegrated. Hasn't had any issues so far with their more aggressive compount but

I have no experience with the calipers or rotors.

A few years back I bought the Racing Brake oversized 324x28mm two-piece kit for the front and the 1997+ size single-piece 303x23mm kit for the rear.
That is, the rotors and the brackets to use the NSX OEM calipers.
Before, I used the Stoptech aerorotors in the front and the stock rotors in the rear together with Axxis Ultimate pads.

I use(d) the Hawk HP+ pads first and later went to the Hawk HPS pads later.
With both pads, the increase in braking is quite significant and I do regularly travel at pretty high speeds (> 100 mph)
I DID contemplate the use of the Racing Brake calipers but so far I am undecided on that one. Bigger calipers also require different which might be less easy to get.

Currently I am running the Hawk HPS pads but am not very happy with those. Although better than stock, I will use the HP+ pads because the give even more bite. But they also will wear out your rotors more quickly, especially during heavy use

BTW, I bought the set through Science of Speed, so I have had no direct contact with Racing Brake themselves.
