Project: Custom Big Brakes

Anyone out there work in VW, Audi or Porsche parts and are willing to give me a break on a few pairs of calipers? My local shop won't work with me at all.

PM me with any prospects. Thanks for the help.

Just finishing up the rears and thought I would post some pics.

I just got my laser cut parts back for the e-brake brakets (thanks to TitaniumDave for the measurements). I made some stand offs for the bracke to match the crazy offset of the rotors/calipers.

I put some new ARP super long studs to work with the rotor hat thickness (26mm). This gets the wheels pushed out just right.

Still waiting for some bolts to come in to mount the e-brake caliper but here is everything together.

I have a second set of these brackets cut out. They are for a 14" rotor but based off the Comptech kit. I can get the 13" ones cut out as well. they will run $60 plus shipping if anyone is interested.

I'll post some more pictures with the wheels on as soon as I can.

any reason why you chose different logo styles on the rear caliper than front? looks amazing as usual!

The rear calipers are quite a bit smaller than the fronts. The "F1" logo on the front would not fit without making it super tiny. Still kind of playing around with it. The other idea was to put the "F1" where the "H" is now.

How much cheaper is the cost over buying a BBK from one of our vendors? Also how myuch clearance is needed on a wheel with this setup? Your car and efforts are second to none.

I guess you would be looking at 1/2 of the price for a turn key kit from Brembo etc. My advantage is I have a friend who is an engineer at Oshkosh Truck and has his own (well outfitted) machine shop. By the time you add all your time and materials you may save 30%. What I have on my car is a little silly. I'm quessing I'm overbraking the car by 300%. It's got some crazy braking ability though and by having a 265 tire on the front, it stops on a dime (or less). If I were to make what I have in a kit, I would be surprised if it fit any other car. Just because of the wheel design and offset I can get away with it. You could use the same calipers and rotors but make different brackets and hats and you could fit them behind a few set ups.

I bought all the calipers off Ebay, rebuilt them and added fresh bleeders and hardware. I still figure I saved 40% from buying them new.

I know titamiumdave has a nice kit using the the lotus or f50 calipers from Brembo. You might want to look into his kit.

man your car is almost complete.

just wonderin. how much larger are those brake pads vs. Oem?

any chance posting pix side by side?

Just a notice: I have another set of the front calipers (6 Piston Brembo) if anyone is interested. $700 obo

I stumbled on this thread searching for information on Cayenne calipers.. this is one of the greatest custom-made brakes I've seen in a long time.. great great work!

I'm currently running Brembo F50 calipers on my BMW M3 and I'm thinking of upgrading to the Cayenne monoblocks.. I made the brackets for the F50's myself but it isn't hard with radial mount calipers you can pretty much adapt them to anything

I'm wondering if you remember the bolt-spacing on the lug mounting ears of the Cayenne calipers? This will help me determine if it's possible to do this mod.. the caliper bolt spacing on the kingpin/knuckle of the M3 is 122mm

Thanks for any help!

Sorry, I don't have that info anymore and I sold both sets of calipers I had.

Do you still have all the measurements to do this project again

Do you think the G2 caliper paint would "stick" to the Brembo paint if not sanded? It's easy to sand the "face" of the caliper but impossible to get into all the little nooks and crannies. BTW, I plan to spray it on from the beginning...no brush.
Thx
Jeff

Hey Vroom, how did you finally get those front calipers to mount to the nsx mounts? Did you end up adding material then redrilling? Or doing the offset lugs?

Curious since I've located a set of 6 piston monoblocks from another car but the distance center to center on the caliper mounting holes is 128mm.

thanks

I bored them out and plugged using some retaining compound and heated the caliper. Then re-bored the correct size in the correct location.
