Guys, I been reading the NSX Prime posts for some time now, and two things have become evident: (1) you guys are a bunch of really knowledgable people about above- and below-the-hood issues, and (2) the community is really tight. I've seen a lot of posts about warnings, look-outs, helpful tips and just general knowledge sharing. I'm really impressed.

Well, I've decided to take the plunge on my first NSX-T (yipee!!). I have been talking with a dealer for some time now, and he is asking for $46K for a '95 Black/Black with 29K miles. It's a one owner. The car looks really nice, and very well maintained from the inside and out. It's got SSR rims and a DC Sports Exhaust (the dealer said this was a $1,500 exhaust). Other than that the car is stock (no mods on the headers,etc.). Engine bays look good/clean.

I wanted to know a couple of things from you guys:
(1) whether for the condition/mileage/upgrades, the $46K price seems reasonable, and

(2) whether there are any NSX champs in the Chicago area that might be willing to devote a little bit of time to inspect the car with me.

Ooh! One last thing. I've put up some pictures of the car the dealer sent me: http://home.uchicago.edu/~vhora/acura_nsx

Thanks guys. Would really appreciate your input.

Vik.

That's a typical asking price for the year, mileage, condition. I would try to negotiate downward from there.

You have mail.

I think the price sounds fair. I might try and come down just a little more. Say 44ish.

Good luck!

FYI
Just bought a 96t Blk/Tan one owner. Paid $47k w/27,8k in miles. Bone stock, The owner paid for its enclosed shipping from Portland OR, the 30k service with valve adjustment, new tires on rear. It had a car cover, complete service records, window sticker (etc) and never saw the rain. Thing looks nearly new. The people in this forum are generally good folks, if their with you on a inspection your in good hands. Get the history & records and ask to speak to the former owner. It sounds reasonable if you factor out all the stuff the owner of my car paid. (30k serv/valve adj & tires $1200), enclosed shipping ($1100) and your around $45k and i'll bet they will take less. Good luck.

Thanks NetViper and Tom. And many thanks to nsxtasy, who has kindly agreed to carve out some of his time to go see the car with me.

I will certainly ask for the books/records. Can't speak to the owner, because he has passed away!

Assuming nsxtasy finds the car OK, will try to negotiate for $44K. Dealer started at $49K, went to $46 pretty quickly, but not sure how much more he will come down since we didn't get into serious price negotiations as yet. We have a few data points (ie, other cars) that suggest he will. Will assume I will pay 50 cents on the dollar for the exhaust, rims.

Regards.

I know where that car is, and it has been there for quite a long amount of time, it was a lease return. Napleton Westmont Porsche is the mosy shady place I have ever dealt with. They lied to me, and I am still in litigation with my lawyer on unauthorized charges on my credit card from them. *********If I never do business with them again, it will still be too soon. Absoulutly the worst place I have ever dealth with!I would not buy anything from there if my life depended on it************* Even the sales manager there (Mark Becker) lied right to my face and got called out by a salesman there. As far as the car, I looked at it about 3 months ago and they only wanted $42,000 for it at that time. If you carfax it you will see it is also not a one owner car. If I remeber correctly it had 3 owners and 2 dealer owners as well. I noticed you said the owner is deceased. When I looked at in a few months ago he had just traded it in earlier on a 996. In my opinion.....stay away!!!!

I would assume that the exhaust and rims neither add to, nor subtract from, the value of the car compared with a similar car that's all stock. Unless it also includes the original stock rims, in which case those are worth $1-2K.

when I looked at the car they did not have the stock wheels or exhaust.

If you're not getting the stock wheels and exhaust with the car, then the aftermarket parts certainly don't improve the value. In fact, depending on the aftermarket rims, you could probably easily argue that they decrease the value by about a grand. The stock wheels are expensive, and fairly lightweight (especially the fronts) if I remember correctly. And it doesn't matter if the DC Sports Exhaust is $1500... The stock one is I think something like $1300 from Acura.

Guys, thanks a lot for your replies. AaronR, particularly yours. If what you are saying is true (and I'm sure it is), then I'm shocked by the level of deceit that the salespeople at Napleton have. The car was sitting dusty on the lot for a couple of weeks. When I saw it just sitting there, I was told by a salesperson named Andy Smith (a new guy that recently came from Lynch Porsce) with a straight face that they got the car as part of some sort of estate-settlement case which is why they couldn't touch it for a while. Probably a crock of sh--. Now the car seems to be out on the lot all polished up. 3 owners + 2 dealer owners. That's a lot. And why ask $46 now when they were asking $42 then!! It looked too clean to be true for a 7 year-old car.

My suspicions have been heightened alot by your comments, and rightly so. I will still review the car with nsxtasy to get this thoughts, but unless the car is top quality and they give me a great deal, I'm passing.

EDIT: As for the VIN, I've been asking for sometime, and haven't gotten it. Now I know why.

Thanks again guys. AaronR, you are a big help. Thanks.

Regards.

no problem. I may still have the vin written down somewhere in my desk, I'll have to take a look. If I have it I'll post it. As for the story I got....... they said it sat in back for a few months (not days or weeks mind you, and it was outside all winter) becuase they were waiting for the guy's lease to be up so that they did not have to pay the early return/buyout penalty. That was about 2 months ago so they have probably had the car for at least 6 months by now. At the time I was looking at it they said they had not even bought it from the leasing company yet and were negotiating. They said they could buy it for $39,000 and needed to mark it up $3000.00 to make up for the diffrence in what they had given the guy on trade in for his 996. They were trying to make up for a bad news car (way worse than this one, but they thought it was ok when they sold it to me!!!!!) that they had sold me. Be careful, they will lie to make it sound ok, that is how I got into my mess with them. This NSX -T was supposed to be the car we got me into to make it better up until we found out the real story of the car. Thank god for carfax!!!! Sorry it's not the clean story you expected, but that's what I know about this car. I am just happy I do not have to deal with them anymore.
