Painted my calipers- the final step!

Having just finished my CF hood makeover, it was time to get rid of my flaking red painted calipers and color coordinate. So, after researching the best paint method, I decided to go with the G2 epoxy paint-on method.

I have a few gripes about this paint system. In short, the good is after 3 coats, the finish looks baked-on. The bad is (1) they don't give you enough paint and (2) trying to apply a smooth coat is nearly impossible and a PITA. However, it turned out OK although not quite up to my perfectionist standards.

Here is one "before" and three "after" shots...

Hey RacingHeart. Nice to hear from a fellow Primer on the other side of the planet. Your car is awesome. Love the Ferrari color scheme complete with yellow calipers. And your wheels- wow!

Also, thanks to the other Primers for your comments. It is nice to get a "thumbs-up" from doing something you feel good about having done.

I love it. Actually I had the same color car and did the G2 paint system. I was only able to get 2 coats of paint and the right rear got an extra coat. Did you remove the calipers and paint the whole thing? My G2 lasted 3 years before it was chewed up by rocks. I went with the brembo GT in yellow. How did you get the lettering perfect? I tried to paint the lettering black but kept messing up and finally gave up.

I complete removed the calipers and disassembled the springs to strip the old paint first. The brake lines are way too short to attemp to do without removing the lines. This also allowed me to inspect the seals. I found two that were split but not leaking. As far as I know, these are the original seals- 19 years old! So, I will be taking these to the shop to get new seals installed. Brakes are one thing I want in perfect working order.

I cheated on the lettering and used a permanent magic marker. I figured that should last for some time. If I end up owning this car for a few years or more, I will either invest in a rotor upgrade or do the who BBK thing. From all I have read and aside from cosmetics, a two-piece rotor upgrade with SS lines and hi-temp brake fluid should be more than enough. That and leaving a few extra thousand dollars in my saving account.

PS. Hey pegi. Wow, Finland! I still get a kick out of hearing from people all over the world. I think that if everyone on the planet bought or received a sports car, we could all occupy our spare time with car events and have no time for war, killing, etc.

Looks good enough for government work. Does the G2 yellow match the yellow on the NSX? I have some DupliColor caliper paint and the yellow doesn't match the car very well (or at least for my taste). From your photos, it seems to match quite nicely. Looks great.

Yes, the color match is quite good and about as good as I could have hoped for. I also considered a spray-on product like Duplicolor but couldn't resist something as durable as an epoxy-based paint.

Let me guess. The Duplicolor is a bright, flat yellow, correct? The G2 ended-up having a golden cast to it and good match to Rio Yellow. So it kinda made up for the greater cost.
