I didnt want to change the topic of NCC-1701D's thread with talking about paintball so i figured id start my own and ask how many of you primers are paintballers? I played for about 3yrs and 2 of those i played tournament pball. i played a pball game for xbox the other day (awesome game) and ive got the fever again. im thinking about starting up again. ive got a custom AKA cocker at the moment, i regret selling my excalibur, but i just might have to pick up another

any other pballers out there?

I try to make it out to the indoor paintball field every wednesday to play speed ball.. Thinking about making a 5 or 7 man team.. But with my current workload and other commitments, time is an issue.

I haven't had a chance to play Greg Hasting Tourney Paintball yet, but I hear it a great first person shooter.. I hear the cheat mode is pretty cool. You get to wipe paint off and try not to get caught.

my current marker is the Lasoya Timmy but I was thinking of trying out a DM5 marker...

I got to admit, paintball is lots of fun. Great way to meet the older and younger generation players out there..

95NSXT : I went paintballing for the first time earlier this year, and as you can tell from this thread i totally loved it. I can't wait to go again.

The only downsides for me were it was an interstate drive (3-4hrs) for me, it cost me $$$ (i love to suppress! :D ), and my legs ached for three days afterward despite preperation + warm-up & cool-down exercises. But at least my ego didn't get bruised. :p I dont think i was shot in the back once! :D

I just wish we had an urban environment-style paintball here in Australia... and imitation weapons (like a SPAS-12 paintball shotgun) ... that would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool!

NeoNSX: Ah stupid me, should have search for pball topics, I forgot about that one. Yeh you tend to get sore if you havent run like that in a while. Running for your life I mean.

The only draw back I see is the time commitment and the cost. I had a practice and tourny once a month, had to drive 1hr to my friends place, then drive x amt of hours to the field for tournys. Then drop $135 on 2 cases and entry fee . Needless to say I couldn't keep that up.

NCC-1701D, yeh that wipe feature is kind of neat but if you really have your adrenaline flowing and that thing pops up on your screen I tend to hit any button to get it out of my sight, costed me a game when I got a 3 for 1 penalty for wiping. But if you are calm the wipe thing is pretty cool.

Ive never played with a timmy before, but I know they're pretty quick. I didnt even know Lasoya had a timmy out. I've seen him play at the Chicago Open, those guys are crazy. I've been out of the pball scene for so long I dont know what's out now and what's not.

Played my first game of X ball tonight..5 on 5 with 2 lines...everyone paid $70 CND and we all pooled our paint in huge bin...OMG was it intense. lots of action all the time... games are so fast (5 min) with a 2 min break in between......when your life means nothing on the field...it's all about dumping paint and bunkering.....I was a back end guy and I shot at least 600 balls per game....best 2 1/2 hours of paintball ever....

I've gone a couple times to the local field to play with a group of friends, and i quickly noticed 2 things.
#1 my buddy with the Pittman w/ upgraded barrel could double the range any of us had with our rentals, and therefore he seemed to have more fun.
#2 All the crouching led to some super sore legs the next day.

However, i've lately been getting into airsoft, which has been great

NCC-1701D, that sounds awesome. i love playing speedball. I did attend michigans monster game or monster mash or something a few years ago. it was rediculous. there is always someone to shoot at. you can all get on the back of a giant truck and drive into the woods, they let you out and you go at it. its pretty intense with the enemy getting dropped off at random spots. there was a truck that drove around and had a person shooting out of a little hole in the back. it was nuts, but a lot of fun.

paladin, you mean tippman? could be a pittman out now, ive been out of the loop for a while. if it was a tippman and he was shooting really long he probably had the flatline(curved barrel). i had a flatline a while back, kind of cool concept, but not really a gun suited for my style of play.

Yea, thats what he had (good guess). Anyway, that was the point where i realized it was whoever threw more money at it. almost like racing, lol

Yeh to an extent it is kind of like that. There is a pro team that is a tippman factory team and thats all they use.

I agree it is like racing/modding you car except scaled down. I dropped nearly a grand building an autococker, I haven't even put that much into my car.

I played for about a year really comptetively but then during practice i spun around and tore my ACL

Well it was probably the best thing for me.. b/c i started getting into swimming to work out... and I took up a new hobby..

road racing..

I'm the complete opposite. I had to park the NSX because of our long Canadian winters. So I started playing paintball again. Sad thing is that I think I have spent more money on paintball gear than on mods for my NSX.

Paintball is like any other sport. The gun doesn't make the player (though it does help and confidence goes up). The player makes the gun. There are alot of basics (snap shooting, playing off hand, standing and sitting correctly, etc etc) thats players can practice and work on to make them more effective on the field.

Tonight I had to chance to watch and play 1 on 1 with a pro paintball player..

Josh Davies from the Oakland Assassins...

All I have to say is OMG !!!!!

This man is insanely fast and deadly accurate...for those of you that have played tourny ball knows are hard it is to run and shoot....He was running and shooting ..moving from bunker to bunker all the time and gogging people in the 1 on 1s....He doesn't need to rip paint at people to hit them..1 ball was all he needed...the only time he needed to rip paint was when he needed to move to different bunkers..I definitely learned lots watching with play...

That's awesome! I agree that you can learn a lot from watching other people play. You can tell the "newbies" because they like to dump paint, assuming they aren't the back man who is usually supposed to lay cover. I went to the NPPL Chicago Open and watched Chris Lasoya, Bob long, and other big names play. Those guys are insane. They shoot a lot of paint, but when you're sponsored, who cares? There are lots of little things you pick up along the way playing that will give you huge advantages over the other guys out there. Luckily our manager, the dad of a friend on one of our other teams, taught me a lot of valuable stuff. I HAVE to play soon, hopefully I can still remember how to shoot

Ive played a couple of times and it is a total blast. My first experiance with paintball was when I bought a gun for my nephew and the first thing he did was pop me in the stomach from about 4 feet. OUCH!!!! Now Hes really into this airsoft stuff and thats really cool as well. Those little BB things really move though, 280 fps!!!! And they leave little red dots when they hit you too. :frown:

Dumb question, but are the paintball guns in the USA significantly more accurate? Here in Australia they are inaccurate; they go straight for 10meters then sway to the side -- you HAVE to spray a couple of rounds to ensure a hit. Or do you play with higher gas pressure?

loNfastNSX: is that you or your girl writing... i never know these days? hopefully you.

A lot of my friends play it, but I've never played it...It's just too bad I don't have time for it, otherwise I would....

Like most anything if you want the best you have to pay big bucks. Bob Long makes some very accurate markers but they cost a grand.

NEO ..I cannot imagine paintball guns in Aussie land being anymore different then those in the USA, Canada, or Russia....There are many paintball gun manufacturers but there are only handful of them make high end guns...The high ends guns can actually to be more real guns..It actually takes alot to make your ball go straight...Nice ported barrel, paintball to barrel size matching (I have see balls range from .687 to .695 in size), nice balls, how much kick your gun has etc, etc....

All paintballs will begin to drop once it leaves the barrel (285-300fps), so it really takes great skill to properly account for drop and hit the target..

But pros are pros for a reason..You leave any part of your body out and they will "snap shoot" it in a heartbeat..

I did a bit of a search before on google to see if i could find some paintball video clips; no luck, but i'd love to see some pro's in action. Although after my one time at paintballing, I reckon my mates and I are good enough to take down the pros..... :D LOL

Since 911 we now have strict custom regulations on air-rifles and stuff that could be used for "terrorism". Paintball parks can't even import paint grenades because it has the word "grenade" in the title. Thank you Osama. :(

I've seen you can buy imitation air-rifle versions of real weaponary in the US... like this SPAS-12 shotgun air rifle. Man, you guys in the USA are soooo lucky! There's noooooooo way you could get something like this in Australia without risking prison time. :( :( :(

Here is a cool vid I found. I think it was shot in Hawii. I'll host the 2nd video tommorow if I have space.

HG Ganstas

pbnation.com is a great forum. paintballcity.com used to be the big one and then it went down.

Cool. Thanks for the links - that's the type of stuff i'm looking for. I'll download all of them tonight during off-peak.

Seeing the BEAUTIFUL headshots (ie. 1 pink paintball in the center of a guys face) and all the sore losers claiming the other guys are cheating brings back soooo many good memories.... i wanna go paintballing again! :D

Played in a local tourny today...tourny lasted 12 hours ....

my team shot 13 cases of paint (2000/case) over a span of 11 games..(8 prelims, 2 semi finals, 1 final) each game was alotted a maximum of 5 minutes or whichever team hung the flag first (5 man speed ball format) We finished 4th over all in our rookie division...(3rd place after prelims, 4th place in semi, 4th place after the finals)
