Why have I been told that my 91 Formula red NSX is clearcoated? Every time I wax my car I get red residue on my waxing clothes? It seems to me that my paint is not clearcoated.B Jones

bjnz,

The Formula Red NSX has a red tint in the clear coat. It is the only color that has tint in the clearcoat.

Larry is right.

Also, you shouldn't be using any kind of wax (such as a "cleaner wax") that is abrasive enough to remove paint.

Products that are abrasive (which also include everything from swirl mark remover to rubbing compound) should be used only as a last resort for problems with the finish that cannot be fixed through any other means.

bjnz, don't worry you're not alone. I have the exact same problem with my '96 formula red. Appears formula red is the only color with a redish clear coat. To reduce residue, try waxing with a gentle motion. Residue normally appears when you wax too hard or apply pressure on the paint.
