Ordered a GT-R

From the above linked article...

"More good news: For all the GT-R's stunning performance, it's hard to understand why any enthusiast in Japan would purchase a GT-R given all the restrictions and headaches. We seem to be in the clear, though; our sources at Nissan USA have told us no such GPS-based speed limiters will be placed on U.S.-spec GT-Rs, though it's unclear where we stand with the rest of the limitations."

Even so, the draconian measures Nissan has implemented makes me wonder if they're a legacy of the CGT crash at Fontana or Nissan being foolishly shortsighted or a combination of both. Why would you go through the trouble of building such an incredibly well performing car and not let it perform as designed?

I am with you. The $1000 checkup for the track pisses me off. That is insane. WTF can they do that is worth $1000? Maybe $100 would be OK to keep the warranty.

Likely the $1,000 fee will go away when everyone complains.

Moving on, I keep looking at this car, and it just reminds me of a mangled 350z with a stronger engine. Everyone else seems to love it, but for $70 to $80K, I don't see the fuss. Why not buy a used Porsche? Because everyone already has one? Well, at least they don't look like cheaply modified 350's.

For those of you who like them, no offense intended, just my .02.

It's really, really fast, that's why. What used porsche is supposed to compete with this car? I realize there is much more to it than that, but if you are buying it for the performance to dollar ratio, the GTR is difficult to beat.

I guess 'perception' is different among different people.

The GTR is quite a bit different from the 350 in every regards - chassis, drivetrain, suspension, etc... To say it's just a hopped up 350 is grossly ignorant.

I don't think its faster than a 911Turbo (without driving the gtr yet), but the comparisons were only done between an automatic 911 turbo with continental run-flat tires to the GTR with nearly R-compound tires.

Anyway, I like the GTR, for the price its a pretty good deal if you're not into Z06s and is quite a bit faster than a 911 Carrera.

It would be hard to think anyone would get one for MSRP. NSX sold for over 40k+ over MSRP when it came out.

Of course if the dealership promised him, they should make good on their word.

I just read a few interesting tid bits about the car.

1. No aftermarket wheels allowed
2. If you want to track it, you have to take it to nissan first to get certified everytime at a cost of $1000 --otherwise you void your warranty.

That sucks.

iForged has already made two different kinds. I don't see how Nissan can control who makes aftermarket wheels. The article just says Nissan "didn't even want to see aftermarket wheels on any of the GT-Rs at the show."

I didn't say their control arms look similar. Your reading comprehension is ignorant. Very simple, their bodies look too similar.

All of the GTR's at the show had to be driven in on the stock wheels, then jacked up and had the wheels switched out. The cars still cannot be driven with aftermarket wheels due to a tire pressure sensor problem.

"Nissan has announced that it will begin selling a hotter V-Spec version of its GT-R supercar to market by the end of this year. The new range-topping model will receive upgrades in power and aerodynamics to help the car go toe-to-toe with the Porsche 911 GT2 and GT3.

Underhood, the GT-R V-Spec's turbocharged mill will see an increase in boost, raising output to 550 horsepower — up from the standard GT-R's 480 horsepower. In addition to the power boost, the V-Spec will also shed 150 kg.
According to Auto Express, a new body kit will also be added — including side skirts and splitter — increasing the car's downforce.
Bigger tires and upgraded brakes are also likely for the V-Spec package.
Nissan has also set a sub-7 minute 25 second Nürburgring goal for the GT-R V-Spec — 18 seconds faster than the current car.
When the V-Spec hits the market, look for it to sticker for about $150,000.
Although there is no word on when or if the GT-R V-Spec will make it to the U.S., an Infiniti-badged GT-R could be in our future."

Well, we will see what Nissan can do. But they are really going after porsche and their 911 line.

Here's what you can expect if you buy one in Houston::mad:

Dear Future Nissan GT-R Owner;

At Baker-Jackson Nissan, we appreciate your interest in North America's most anticipated new car introduction with the 2009 Nissan GT-R. This Supercar is a one of a kind sports car that will not be constrained to the track to be driven by only trained performance drivers. No! It is truly a Supercar that can be enjoyed by anyone, anytime anywhere!

Only 1500 GT-R's will be built in first year for the United States. While many dealers will only have 1 or 2 available, Baker-Jackson Nissan will have 15 GT-R's available. We have stepped up to the Supercar market by making the investment to become a certified Nissan GT-R dealer.

ORDER YOUR NEW GT-R NOW!

The moment you have waited for has finally arrived! Nissan has just given the green light to authorized dealers to send in customer sold orders. We will begin accepting custom orders on February 22'd from the first fifteen people who finalize a deal with a deposit. These orders will be filled before other dealer stock orders are sent.

We have set the pricing for our all new GT-R at $95,995.00 for the Premium Edition and $93,995.00 for the regular GT-R plus tax, title and license, plus any factory or dealer options that you would like on your new GT-R. This way, when you order your car, you get it the way you want it....with no surprise cost at the end.

To place your order, contact one of our General Managers: Kevin Allen - North Store or Brad Childress - South Store.

These sports cars will not be shipped like any other vehicle. The GT-R deserves special handling from the factory to your hands. Your other cost will be the destination and handling charge that Nissan has yet to announce.

YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE IN THIS DRIVER’S SEAT!

Because we know how special these cars are, you will have the option of actually being at Baker-Jackson Nissan when your new GT-R is getting pre-delivery and state inspected. At the time of delivery of your new Supercar, you will meet with your Certified Service Director and your Certified GT-R Master Technician. We want you to know them because they will be doing all the maintenance on your vehicle. Each GT-R comes with total support for the first three years of ownership.

The GT-R release is the most exciting event in Nissan history. We are committed to exceed your expectations in service, performance and satisfaction. Thank you for your interest in the new 2009 Nissan GT-R.

Respectfully,

Bruce Baker Kevin Allen Brad Childress

Wow...a local here in Tulsa is getting his, in Houston, for 10k over MSRP.

Hmph - gotta love "market adjustment" pricing. I wonder if dealerships realize that they're propetuating their own negative stereotype by doing this.

If they can sell it for 95k I see no reason why they shouldn't as long as it's legal.

We all knew this car was going to cost 90k+ when it first came out as soon as we got the performance figures and production numbers.

I agree 100%. Nobody is going to make anyone buy this car, so if people want to pay markup on it, let them.

If the car is going for 90K+ then the MSRP should be 90k+. Dealerships aren't auctions, they're retail stores. And though I have no problem with anyone earning a dollar, the use of the "market adjustment factor," IMHO, borders on the unethical. Ambiguous pricing b/t hundreds of retail stores is poor business planning, erodes consumer confidence, and perpetuates a negative stereotype.

After seeing this car in person I must say it's VERY sharp! As they say "Pictures do not do it justice"...... and edmunds.com just tested this car 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. I don't know any car other than the McLaren off the top of my head that can beat that... well maybe the Enzo 0-60 3.28 sec! But thats just a fraction of a second! At that point its just a matter of the driver I think...

Enjoy the pics I took from the LA Auto show back in 2007 :D

I called one of the dealers here to see about putting a deposit down on a GTR. They told me I was 60th in line and that they were only getting 3. Don't like my odds. *lol* I think this is a car that most will have to wait a couple of years to pick up on the used market.

All the restrictions seem to be an evolution of the 180kmh speed limit. As technology gets better, the restrictions will get tighter. The aftermarket companies/enthusiasts eventually find ways around it. Waiting to see some wide body versions.

Some high-res shots for you to drool over. I gotta say, everytime I see this thing it grows on me a little bit more.

Enjoy!
