OR, WA members group drive to Vancouver B.C.

kevin, after 911, and the recent Threat for the columbus day??

Better be safe than sorry... Please considering driving a nsx can bring both extreme attitude from the custom officer. I had once a guy kept slamming my trunk harder and harder and it won't close. He's not too happy when I told him that I'll do it myself later. Whearas the other time, another officer just asked me where I'm going, I was like n. Seattle. And then he said, "Well, there's a gas station before you get on exit, this car needs to fuel up every twenty miles right" with a friendly smile.....

This is long time ago, but I had once went thru border couple weeks after 911, I was at the hall and they were searching my car for hour(not nsx). I witnessed a couple who speaks fluent Native English, who happens born here, from NW; yelled by one of the office, and I mean it's a top of the lung yelling, " Don't you realize you need a passport to get out of our country......." It was quite a shock as I'm accustomed being harrassed by them (Before I get my green card, and with full cars of visitors/international students), but that kind of treatment should not happen to well spoken Native white people.... ;)

so, I'll say Polar's suggestion is very good that to check with the authorities is a must.

I agree you should check what the current laws regarding re-entry into the U.S. are. (there doesnt ever seem to be a problem getting into Canada, just getting back home)

I have been up to Vancouver between 10-12 times since 9/11.. I have had no problems..One of those times was less then a month ago when I went up to see Stacy. I did get flagged off to the side, I assume because I told them I was coming up to install parts on my car... None the less all they did was stand by my car for about 5 min and stare at it... and then they let me go on.. The ironic thing is that my friends who were driving one of my wholesale cars (a 99 GMC p/u ) with my dealer plate on it! and Stacys SS shoved in the extra cab part didnt get hassled at all.. even more ironic is that all they had was their DL's and no other form of ID's..... and didnt get hassled on the way out either..

One thing I will warn you is that they get really pissed off at me coming back into the U.S. with no front plate... I think more then anything they get pissed... because they actually have to leave their little shack to walk around to the rear of the car and look at the plate.

I think everyone should be as prepared as possable...But I really dont think anyone will have any problems if all they have is a DL and a "certifide" copy of their BC...

Just a note, the border won't accept copies of a birth certificate either. It has to be the original. So, you will be taking a risk of losing the certificate if you want to rely on that.

I have seen the border guards accept a birth certificate printed on a credit card size ID that is issued by the State. I think that will still be sufficient.

My question is, are you going there??

thanks for the info.

I am actually already going to be up in Vancouver, BC on Saturday and staying the night up there.

However, it would be fantastic to meet you all in Vancouver if the logistics allow it. But I won't have a car and may need to catch a ride with someone back to the Bellevue area. :)

It could be done, as KANE will drive his hummer, he sure have extra seats. I also had an empty seat, will let you know when it's getting closer.

Check here often and keep my phone number just in case.

Guys I need to investigate the passport/birth certificate thing. Also there is a slight chance that I won't be able to make it this weekend, my car lift may show up this weekend and I will need to be there to unload and install it.

A birth certificate will work fine in conjunction with Drivers License. I go up quite a bit being right her in B'ham. Also the truck crossing often times seems to be quicker then the main crossing and if I really want to bypass the line I go up the inside lane and get a candy bar at the duty free and then go to the front of the line. LOL

Stacey, do you have a time and place set up for the Vancouver crew to meet up with the Seattle caravan?

Since I am going to be in Vancouver already I may as well meet your group in the BC area mid-morning on Sunday.

as of right now, I'm waiting on Stacy's reply on which restaurant we are going to. My plan is going to start at 8:30am, so we should cross the border around 11 - 11:30am. and then going to the restaurant.

After lunch, it'll be to Stacy's shop, after that we'll have a drive and possibly taking some group pictures. (I'm relying Stacy and other BC members on this leg) then we should be around 4-5pm and we could break into different groups for dinner and other activities...

My group will not include NSX_V,Pam is still in Arizona, leaving tomorrow for home.Hopefully she will make it here in time.I will phone Pretegra tomorrow.
This little get together is turning into a BIG deal. The responsibility of organizing this is killing me,getting stressed,LOL !
Optikal I will Pm you my phone number, call me on Sunday,I probably will just be kicking around my shop.Trying to make my car somewhat presentable,YIKES !
I figure we will meet for brunch at ABC restaurant on #10HWY and 192nd st.
They have a fairly good size parking lot.
As for dinner, have we decided where yet?
I am in for Kobe steak house, let me know what you guys would like and we will take the majority.
Stacy

Sh$t! I'm running out of time to get my SS on.. I know Stacy will kick my ass if they arent installed when I get there.. hahaha

I look forward to this weekends events...

I just hope I can get everything done before Sunday..

So far I have to

#1 get a 4 wheel ali. done at Acura of Lynnwood
#2 Get my Stacys SS painted and installed
#3 Install the Taitec SAI C/F Wing
#4 Install the taitec C/F Diffuser

If I get the first 2 done I will be happy.

Kevin

I Have a CTSC sitting in 2 boxes under my dining room table that I know I will not get done by then. Kind of a bummer but I guess there will be plenty of time to enjoy once it is done.

Kevin don't worry about all that stuff, just get what you need to get done to travel safely.

Sockeye:It is suppose to rain so the supercharger won't do you any good, but you could bring it and see how it looks on my car !!
MAYBE ?
LOL
Stacy

Stacy, thanks for helping out organizing for the Canada leg of our drive.
I don't know too well of Vancouver roads and since most of the time when I visited I only stayed in Richmond area. We have a quite good size group, I'm pretty sure my navigation skills( ;) ) will not be appreciated or tolerated should we get lost.

Guys. Like I have planned before, I'll post the rough (final) itenary that will show the exact frist-stop time and ETA for the rest tomorrow night.

As for dinner, I'm pretty sure I would want to stop by Richmond to shop some snacks and bakery for my family. So I'm guessing I'll leave the group around 5,6pm....

Here is the first stop's address:
ABC Family Restaurant
19219 Highway 10 (Highway 10 and 192nd)
Langley, BC
V3S 8V9
Tel: (604) 576-7770

From the U.S.A.:
Cross the border at the Truck Crossing
Go north on 176th Avenue to Cloverdale and Highway 10
Turn east on Highway 10 (56 Ave.) toward Langley
Watch for the restaurant on the north-east corner of Highway 10 and 192nd Street

I was thinking of a drive partially up Cypress mountain for a group pic(weather permitting). It would a nice drive, good spot for a picture, then back through Stanley Park.
As far other things of interest,How about go-karting at the local indoor karting track( http://www.tbcir.ca/#null ).
A kind of mini NSXPO.
Let me know guys, you all are sittin' quiet,I need a response to book this stuff.

Looking forward to meeting all of you !

Stacy

Alot of this will be fly by the seat of your pants.Changes welcome!
Instead of a drive to Cypress, lets do brunch,my shop as a planning point,go-karting and from there we will decide!
I am sure we will as a group figure out what to do,alot of meets are best when no plans are made !
