One of the worst days of my life !!

Europe parts contact

Friends,

first of all thanks for all your support.

nbovelle:
yes...i've got this covered by insurance...but the problem is the value they cover... here the insurance value is a lot different from the market value, and the insurance companys don't have to support the difference...so you guys have an idea, 50000EUR won't get me a 97 NSX, a 91 cost arround 30000 to 35000EUR but my insurance company assign a value of 23000EUR to my NSX and only cover damage up to 70% of that value...go figure :frown: :frown:
i don't think that kind of jealous caused it... i think envy is the way to go...and that anyone could quietly have...

thanks guys..from my heart,
Nuno

Nuno, firstly I am very sorry to hear your sad news. I have never understood the motivation and less the 'satisfaction' some get from hurting others, however that hurt is inflicted.

My next thoughts were whether your insurance would be sufficient to cover the damage. There have been several UK NSX 'written off to salvage' by the insurance companies due to the OEM cost of replacement parts (you wouldn't want the damaged just repaired IMO).

I then got to thinking how you might get your NSX back to the right condition (or improved). Might I suggest you try to contact Dirk in Germany. He is very helpful and has probably the largest stock of NSX parts including panels in all of Europe.

http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/testvb/showthread.php?t=483

It is usually best to contact him by email or pm rather than through the thread for a quicker response.

I hope this proves useful and your NSX is restored swiftly.

Now log off and get back to your lovely wife!

regards, Paul

That is horrible. Why do people do this kind of crap? I am really sorry. I hope you catch the bastards.

  Damn man that sucks!! :frown: Hopefully insurance gets her back up to speed. Hopefully the people that did this randomly trip in front of a moving bus.

I'll add my sympathy to you and your car,,but it sounds like the vandals spent a lot of time and effort to damage your car,not typical of random spur of the moment punks with nothing to do,,my guess, there is a significant chance they know you or of you. So you should really rack your brain for anyone who might be mad at you(or family) or be jealous of you.

Guys,

once again thanks very much for every kind word and thought..

about the repair... the owner of the only bodyshop i trust, coincidently is on vacations on Brasil and only comes on June 11... as i only trust him to deal with the insurance company, i'll try to make them wait for him to start the process...

my intention is not to repair any part...insurance guys always try to make things the cheapest way, but this is my car, my property, and on top of that is one of a kind exotic.... so... i want new parts, i won't let anyone cheap up my car...it's my way, or no way ... it's my very hard earned money and i don't let anyone even try to decide and rule over my things....

talking about this, i just remember a question i have to ask you guys:
What is the right process to paint the car from scratch??? i mean, can someone tell me each layer and respective paint code, the layer sequence, etc... i want to replicate as much as possible the original factory paint i had (only the front bumper was repainted)
if someone knows the best way to replicate the factory paint, please tell me, as i only miss that (the best man for the job i already have).

Senninha, thanks for the info about Dirk, i already know him and have contacted him in the past... right know i don't know what i really need...

i think i go with to lines of action...restoration to exact OEM state or do a NSX-R 02+ conversion.... i have to plan both of them, cost wise to see what to expect....

thanks,
Nuno

Oh Noooooooooooo,   I think I would freak out.

Sorry to hear about that. Best of luck to you.

Very sorry to you.....this is not a car you can leave out. Hope your car a speedy recovery and you might want to start garaging the car if possible.

Yours was red, right? That's a very difficult task and be prepared to get a high quote and/or not perfect results. The average paint shop will be simply overcharged with a 3-layers paint (like in my case) and will even refuse doing 3 layers. Until I'm convinced of the opposite I'd say there's only one factory that can do it right -> Togichi.

I don't think you actually CAN repeat the original factory paint. Remember, after every paint job, the car was baked in an oven to dry before the next layer was applied.
However, a good shop which can handle 3-layers of paint should also be able to do a good job on a NSX.

I sure would get the body repair manual as Daedalus suggested. It's a good investment because it will help you with not just this case but in any other case as well.

Fellow primers,

the multi layer paint job is not a problem, but the paint codes for the different layers is (i understand they are different)... is this described on that body repair manual you stated??

and yes, my car is Formula Red, and i want to keep it, although i thought about changing to Championship white but my wife just asked "do whatever you want, but pleeeaaaasseeeee keep it red" ... so.... it's hard to say no   and i'm affraid that i don't like the white after it's done.. i mean, i love it in pictures, but personally never saw it...

Where can i get the manual?? can anyone send it to me (original or pdf)??

and about being cooler...i got to be.... dispair won't make me any good...afterall, the harm is done, that's the hard reality.

thanks,
Nuno

The problem is that 3-layer paint is very difficult to paint match and that's why some paint systems moved to a 2-layer procedure, base and clear coat which simplifes things a little bit. That's not a bad idea but it will not be possible to get this ultradeep glossy red you'll never see on another car again. But as far as I understand you have to paint the hole car anyway, haven't you? So paint matching is not a big problem then. It will be minimal if you go with a 2-layer paint job. But again: I've seen fully R77-repainted red cars and they don't have this ultradeep red anymore. I'd say that only the guys in Togichi were able to do that and it was a hell of a time consuming job but the result was absolutely outstanding. Some paint shops even refuse to repaint red NSX's just because the trouble is programmed. I'm very sorry to say that but if you have to repaint a panel or so on a red NSX the paint/car is shot. Ok, I have very high claims. Don't ask me how I know. :(

Maybe pbassjo can chime in here.

but my wife just asked "do whatever you want, but pleeeaaaasseeeee keep it red"

Don't listen to your wife. :wife:

You'd be surprise

With that said, I am sorry to hear about this and hope
all turns out well. It's just mind blowing what people
do these days.

So, you have a 97 Coupe? With the 3.2? Wow, what a shame.

Sorry to hear this, and I hope someone witnessed it, and can help prosicute the low lifes.

Zishan:

it's a 97 first licensed..here in Europe, the year of the car is the year of first license...i think my car is a late 94 or early 95...so..it's a NA1

ediddynsx:

after i married, it start to be garaged... but i still use it almost every day...3 to 5 times a week... i love my car...but a car is meant to be used...NSX more than any one else....if i don't use my car affraid that others may harm it, i feel like a prisoner in my own home....it's a risk i got to deal with...

Agreed, buying a car to garage that isn't over 100k doesn't seem reasonable...

So guys... anyone can send me the body repair manual (by mail or email)?? and also, any info on the color codes for the multi paint layers??

i need any help you guys can give me on these..

Thanks,
Nuno

PS - I already have the service manual

unhuz-
I don't understand that post of others harming it if you do not use it?
But I was referring to garaging the car when you come home at night. I do not leave my car out overnight in the driveway or street park it over night. It is in the garage, so some punk little teenager or young adult cannot not harm the car out of jealousy. You are asking for trouble if you leave the car outside over night in the open. I always keep an eye on my car wherever I go, so when I take it to a place where I have to park it........I make sure I can dine or hangout and keep an eye on the car.

Cyberdog-
This car attracts a lot of attention and that comes with the territory. Feel free to leave your NSX out overnight unsupervised.......maybe you live in a real great neighborhood where nothing will happen to the car. I won't take my chances......I have had other cars in my old neighborhood where I parked my car in the backyard with 6 foot walls all around and my car still got egged by punk kids. The garage is the only place I know that I can leave the NSX in and nothing will happen to it. I can sleep at night in peace knowing it is safely tucked away. Heck even if I had an M3 or S2000 I would garage those too. I did not ever say not to drive the car.....all I am saying is if you are parking it for the night then you should put it in the garage.....so you won't be posting stuff like this:

"Guys,

today was a day to forget.... worst only if someone lost their life.

(my NSX was vandalized)...i mean...almost the worst you can imagine....i just arrived at my house, it's 23h55 PM here..."

I am pretty sure you get my drift.......but hey its your car....do what you want.....I know my car will be safe in the (garage).

Nuno,

I am very sorry to hear about the vandalism to your car, it is very disheartening.

Do send a PM to pbassjo, he is an NSX body/paint expert as he has his own body shop and specializes in NSX repair. He gave a lecture in Canada a couple of weeks ago about repainting an NSX and you really should discuss this with him, no disrespect to your local shop.

As you know, the body is made of aluminum and repainting it is not as simple as dealing with steel. Any microscopic dust particle of steel that can get on the raw aluminum and then get painted over will result in a blister and delamination in the future due to accelerated corosion between steel and aluminum. Unless the shop only handles aluminum cars the extaordinary care must be taken to eliminate any chance of steel dust contamination. This is the trickiest part of the process.

Pbassjo, Joe, has a red car and can give you the tips on color matching. Your engine compartment and front compartment will still be red as I don't think you would completely dissassemble the car to repaint it. This is also a good reason to never change the color.

Contact him as he is our resident expert and a really nice guy that will answer all your questions and steer you in the right direction.

Maybe you can post the repaired pictures or tell us about the resurection of your car as you go through the process.

Good luck,

well..what i mean is that if i don't use the car and it is always in the garage, then, it's near impossible for someone to harm it...i can't be slave to that thought... harm is a possible consequence of me using it...wether is at home or some shopping mall....

what i meant was that after i got married, the car sleeps in a garage at my new home, but as i may sleep at my old home due to work schedules, when i do that, it got to sleep in the street. Since i got married, this rarely happens, and this was one of those very rare occasions. i don't know, but it looks like someone was waiting for it to appear to do this...

well.... when i use my car in a normal world, which clearly it isn't, no one would destroy it... but as i said, it's a risk i've got to deal with... i don't have a garage in every place i go... if i don't use my NSX whenever i don't have a garage in the destination, then it's best for me to sell it... as i don't plan to sell it ever...i got to deal with this... even so, it's a pain....

sure i will...i'll try to document everything i do to my NSX...i'll create a thread on it as i'll be doing a lot of stuff this year...lot's of parts i already have, lot's of parts i plan to get... this situation kinda stirred my plans , but i think everything will be fine...

I am sad for you and your beautiful NSX, :frown: I hope that the parasites which did that will burst in their shit, damage to let live and reproduce these weak mental…
I hope that you will have courage and to make good work so that your car finds its beauty… I am certain that it will become true jewels, then… it will have to be supervised best!
then, courage my friend, we all are with you!
