Not a full race car with a tube frame but streetable fun or track day car.

If you have the corner weight that would be cool too and how did you make your car light or what mods.

Thanks, Jeff

OK so no reply. This could be a good discussion.

We got a Mazda FD from ~2,800 lbs down to 2,295 lbs.

There is a cage in the car (2inch tubing). Eric is swapping that out for a lighter 1 5/8 o.d.x .118 mild steel tubing cage. Also, It has a harness and big brakes with full interior from the seats forward.

OK same Car, Widebody and race gas 603 RWHP Dyno Run ***Video*** Not bad for a 1.3 liter:

I know how to build an FD how do we get the weight down and power up on the X?

Ready to learn, Jeff

I have been working on the same problem; every pound saved means you need less HP to do the same job. The lighter it gets the less strain on the drive train, breaks and so on.
"Light also begets light" the lighter it is the lighter it can be built.

The battery can be replaced with a much lighter version.
Spare tire and bracket; tool kit, jack, and compressor can be removed.
After market suspension; some coil-overs are very much lighter.
Seats are worth some weight savings when changed to race type.
Not much is gained in weight savings from the body panels.
After market clutches and flywheels save weight and handle more HP.
Wheel and tire combos when done right can save some weight.

These are just easy starters; this discussion has been had before. You can read about what others have done and what each item change can save if you use search.

On the power increase side; more displacement and more boost always seem to work.

We have a local NSX down to 2300, that will be running in SCCA. King Motorsports did the cage, but all of the weight loss was from hours and hours with a dremel, and losing sound deadening, lighter wiring, etc.

2300 lbs is impressive. But it must be a lot more than just sound deadening. Do you have a list or does he/she post here?

I found this page: http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/info/weight_loss/weight_loss_cost_matrix.cfm

And I know about the HUGE glass around the back that does nothing.

What is the NSX stock weight?

2985~3010lbs without power steering, no passenger airbag

NA1 Type R 2706lbs
Zanardi Edition is approximatly 150lbs lighter than 97+ coupe so approximately 2900~2919lbs

So will say ~2900 with someone at ~2300lbs King Motorsports with a cage.
WOW 600lbs off.

The body is light and I personally don't like the Wide Body look anyway.

How about the flip up lights? Save some weight with the '02? or kit?

I guess it is possible, but will not come cheap. Here are detailed weight reduction spreadsheet

Nope he does NOT post on prime.
He is from northern Chicago area, and will be running in the midwest SCCA events. His car is red, and is kept at Acura of Brookfield. (it is NOT the one that was at NSXPO 06) That was a car that was built about 10 years earlier.

Definitely not the lightest, but at last measurement I'm down from 3169, to 2775 wet in street trim- on a full tank of gas, full interior. I can well extend that as low as ~2680's range, down about an additional 90 lbs or so entirely stripped for track use if needed depending on a number of additional factors/compromises. Note that is in a late model targa which is ~95lbs heavier than a coupe to begin with, w/o driver.

Anyone care to guess at the weight savings of a 02+ headlight upgrade?

I have my stock pop-up headlights out right now; I can provide you with the weight. If you can find the weight of the 2002 lights we can compare to determine the difference.

Anyone got a set laying around?

I've mentioned that my NSX handles differently at speed. Between a CF hood, relocating the spare tire to the trunk, and the 02 headlight conversion, the effect is noticeable.

How come no one's talked about going on a diet??

Yep, don't forget about the biological components of your NSX. Next time you're at a club lunch, try the salad.

Our NSX is almost bang on 1200kg from stripping. Thats with heavier wheels, brakes and rollcage. No lightweight parts have been fitted...

NCDOGDOC, aka Gary, has reduced the weight of his "track rat" by 400 pounds. It is a dedicated track car and the interior is gutted - plus he removed the AC, ABS, etc.

I can tell you that removing that much weight alone made his otherwise stock 91 NSX very fast on the track.

Nobody has a set of '02 lights:confused:

That would be my ONLY reason to buy them. I like the pop-ups.

This NSX is got to be one of the lightest. Cantrell carbon fiber body. Class track record holder at, Arroyo Seco Raceway, La Junta Raceway, Second Creek Raceway
