NSXpo 2010 - Day One and Two

So, after a long and slighty nasty 2 day, 2300km drive down, we got this thing started!

SDC10434.jpg

Dirty and responsible for the death of thousands of bugs, but here in one piece.
-
SDC10432.jpg

Parking lot at the hotel. A lot of aluminum in one place.
-
SDC10440.jpg

With power like Hugh, you get to ask this question, no problem.
-
SDC10437.jpg

I shoulda bought an MDX, then I could have trailered 'er down.

SDC10489.jpg

Show n' Shine and Findlay Acura here in Vegas. Great hosts. As you can see, all types, colors, and level of modification.
-
SDC10493.jpg

SDC10494.jpg

Danny Youngs' infamous Ultimate Street Car competition winner. CHeck that dyno, the plate is telling the truth.
-
SDC10506.jpg

If you're gonna lose trunk space, this isn't a bad way to go about it.
-
SDC10450.jpg

Science of Speeds' Twin Turbo kit. Me Likey. On the Christmas list.
-
SDC10457.jpg

SDC10458.jpg

Acura brought out two of the Realtime race cars from Torrence to the event.

Great time being had down here, I've already met a ton of great new people!
Stay tuned for later days updates

Wow! Great pictures. I dont even understand whats going on with Danny Youngs engine and the picture of the other engine under his. Thats is some wild engine setups.

Thanks Sean. Those engine photos are something else.
Hope you were able to drive down together with others from BC.

NSXpo 2010 - Day Two

By popular demand, here's some of day twos pics:

SDC10527.jpg

My odo before leaving today. When I left Victoria, it was 152091...
-
SDC10518.jpg

SDC10523.jpg

Dominating the street, getting everything organized for the biggest NSX logo you ever done seen!
-
SDC10540.jpg

Get to da choppa! Why did we have a helo there? To film...
-
SDC10538.jpg

... this! From my 14th floor hotel room. It took a fair bit of organizing, but it'll look outstanding from the chopper photos.
-
SDC10536.jpg

The hotel we're at (South Point Resort & Casino) is nice, with a pretty decent pool. Sunday is our "Day Off" day, so I'm gonna have to get me some of that.
-
SDC10547.jpg

SDC10543.jpg

Drive up to Lee Canyon, for lunch at the Resort on Mt. Charleston. Once again, taking over every parking lot we hit
-
SDC10545.jpg

One of my favourite pictures I've taken this trip.

SDC10554.jpg

SDC10555.jpg

SDC10556.jpg

We carried on up the mountian to the Kyle Canyon ski area, where I got a few more nice pictures of my group, Team 6...

... right before my camera batteries died, and I realized my spares were safely tucked away in my laptop bag, at the hotel. Dammit. So I don't have any photos of the Go-Karting at Pole Position in Summerland. It was an indoor track, with electric karts. They were a ton of fun, with shocking (!) torque out of the corners.

It's 9:30, and this town is just getting started, so I'll leave you with these, and get some more up tomorrow, which'll be Red Rock Canyon, some of the HPDE track event, and Death Valley!

Great pictures. Thanks for posting. How many cars are there?

I think we're up to 135 cars now? The number seems to change a bit depending on who I talk to, but it's aroud there.

Off to Cars and Coffee Las Vegas. I'm gonna need a vacation from this vacation...

Nice stuff, Hondatech! :) Lovin' what you're postin'! Bummer about that battery. I've had that feeling several times. In fact, my battery died during the track session this afternoon. I hope I still got some good stuff before then.

Can't wait to see what you've got for today. :D

So, we kicked the day off at Cars and Coffee Las Vegas:

This was a great event. Whatever turned your automotive crank, it was probably there. Apparently, we took the Corvette guys "usual spot" in the parking lot. Sorry, I promise to be out of Vegas by the next one
-
SDC10579.jpg

Get everyone together after C&C, and head off to Red Rock Canyon
-
SDC10580.jpg

SDC10581.jpg

SDC10583.jpg

Truth in advertising. The striped bands of red rock were pretty cool. We did a nice tour along the loop road through the park, and only one person was busted by the park rangers for speeding. Rangers pack radar?! No, it wasn't me, but I hear it was pretty steep, over $400...
-
SDC10590.jpg

This is my intrepid co-pilot Dave from Virginia. He flew out here, so with no NSX, he needed a passenger seat, and was brave (or foolish) enough to accept my offer.
-
SDC10595.jpg

Oddly, the only picture I have of Spring Mountian Motorsports Ranch. Imagine a country club with a racetrack instead of a golf course. I approve. The people doing the HPDE event were here all today (and tomorrow), while we used it for a lunch stop. Fuel up on some good lasagna and then get right back on the road...

SDC10597.jpg

SDC10598.jpg

SDC10599.jpg

... down to Death Valley! This has been, so far, the driving highlight of this trip. Between the wide open roads the the 13 mile road up to Dantes View with some great twisties, we really got to have some fun!
-
SDC10601.jpg

SDC10602.jpg

Furnace Creek. Lived up to its name. 190 feet below sea level, and over 30 degrees. AT the end of October. Not pictured, the massive RV park, nearly full. Who really says, "Gee honey, lets get in the RV and spend a week in Death Valley!"??
-
SDC10604.jpg

SDC10606.jpg

SDC10607.jpg

View from Zabriskie Point, those cool erosion formations in the first picture actually made me stop in my tracks when I came over the rise and saw them. Never seen anything like it. The last picture there shows the cars of the dedicated crew that made the Death Valley trip with us
-
SDC10610.jpg

SDC10612.jpg

The sights from Dantes View. The second picture shows the highest point in Death Valley (Telescope Peak, 11,331 above sea level) and the lowest point (Badwater Basion, 283 feet below sea level) in one shot, apparently the greatest elevation change in north america?

So, then with a blast back and a hasty gas stop in Pahrump for gas (who would have thought that spirited driving would chew through a half tank at such an alarming rate?), we were back to the hotel for the banquet dinner. My team scored the win for best overall (we did well at the go-karting, participated in every organized event, and our members had some of the longest travel distances to get to Xpo, go me!) and won some special edition NSXpo 2010 poker chips! Nice.

WoW nice group of cars. Stock 270hp right up to 1000hp sweet. A widebody Veilside NSX, Realtime NSX is there, from mild to wild. Awesome keep the pictures rolling. Thanks

Sweet pics, Sean! I missed them until now because I wasn't checknig the regional forums.

I saw you walking around, and even caught you in one of my videos, but didn't get a chance to talk to you. That Death Valley drive was rockin'! That was the highlight drive for me as well. For the ones that didn't attend, I guess you had to be there to experience it.

No doubt, we were the lucky ones! Your video was great, and it gives me something to remember that run by

Sunday was a bit of a free day. I managed to sleep through the cruise down the Strip (Whoops), but we ended up at the brunch at Mandalay Bay. What a great spread! Prime rib for breakfast? Damn right. Too busy eating to take pics though  The afternoon was free to I got on with the group that checked out Shark Reef

SDC10615.jpg

Golden Crocodile. Looked lazy, but apparently uses that to lull prey into a sense of false security...
-
SDC10616.jpg

Komodo Dragon. They bite prey with their disease filled mouth, then follow along until it succumbs to the infection. Nice.
-
SDC10619.jpg

Piranha skull. Its was just a little smaller then my fist. And they travel in packs.
-
SDC10617.jpg

SDC10626.jpg

SDC10629.jpg

SDC10631.jpg

Turns out a lot of my pictures taken through the glass walls of the tanks didn't turn out, but a few did. Too bad, the sharks and sawfish were pretty neat.

Monday saw us head out of Vegas, and over to Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam! Predictably, my camera packed it in as we got there, so phone camera to the rescue!

IMG_0327.jpg

We parked on the Arazona side, and this was one of the first things we saw. It's a HUGE overflow spillway in the event the water level gets too high. No a concern right now...
-
IMG_0329.jpg

...since you can see from the white line on the rocks, the water level is way down. Like 80 feet way down.
-
IMG_0330.jpg

IMG_0354.jpg

The intake towers, where the water gets drawn in to the turbines
-
IMG_0352.jpg

IMG_0335.jpg

The power plant at the base of the dam. I checked for Megatron, no go.
-
IMG_0341.jpg

Oh wait, found him. And Bumblebee.
-
IMG_0343.jpg

IMG_0344.jpg

Deep underground to check out the water inlet pipes. Huge , and you can feel the water thundering through the pipe standing over it.
-
IMG_0346.jpg

The eight generators on the Nevada side. Turns at a whopping max RPM of 180. Needs VTEC.
-
IMG_0351.jpg

IMG_0331.jpg

Mike O'Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, seen from the dam.
-
IMG_0355.jpg

And the dam, as seen from the bridge! I hoofed it from Nevada to Arazona, twice!
-
IMG_0360.jpg

Then back to Nevada, so we could get MsPurple some lunch
