NSX-R Chassis Bar Install On An '02

Just ordered these parts... Woot! Can the dealer install these parts or is it better to have someone else do it?

Thanks!
The chassis bars at SOS are on a 5 week backorder as i found out when i ordered them last week :frown: .

My shop will have the nose reinstalled by then so if i can't install the front one without removing the nose i guess they will be for sale in the nsx parts forum. I will not remove the nose again.

If anyone is interested...

I have (2) sets of front & lower NSX-R chassis bars in stock with OEM brackets. Also have (1) NSX-R front stabilizer bar / bushing set in stock. I shall be re-stocked soon. PM for pricing.

Would one need to buy these when using This?

Good question as it states that these are for use with larger aftermarket anti sway bars....Does the larger NSX-R anti sway bar count as one of these??

No!

The NSX-R Chassis Bars and the NSX-R Front Sway Bar are designed to work together. The NSX-R sway bar is bent slightly different to allow enough clearence for the lower Chassis bar.

The SOS spacers are only needed if you do NOT use the NSX-R Front Sway Bar.

Nice write up. But I wonder why you used washers as a spacer for making the fitment right. Isn't it better to use a solid plate as a spacer to fill the whole area? I am sure using washers will loose a lot off stifness the bars are capable off. This is perhaps why you don't feel much difference. A lot of stress will take place on the spacers and the bolts and this stress can not go anywhere but in the washers and the bolts. So the effect you want will not be 100%.

Just my thought:wink:

In the photo that you showed, the washers are between the Tie-down bracket and the frame. The Chassis bracket is mounted directly to the frame with the tie-down bracket over it.

See here…

and another view… (ignore the red circle)

The other side is different… with the tie-down bracket against the frame and washers to accommodate the space on the top bolt.

I could see where, in theory, a plate could help, but only under compression, not under tension. I used fender washers to spead the loads over a wide area to lessen any effect under compression. And besides, these brackets (chassis and tie-downs) are like 5mm plate steel... very strong and beefy material and they attach with 2 bolts (chassis brackets) and 3 bolts (tie-downs). There is probably more movement in the sidewalls of the aluminum frame then there would even hope to be in those steel brackets. The right angle bend in the chassis bracket also helps to prevent movement of the bracket. And besides, I don't believe the forces involved are that great to make a difference.

In the final analysis, I believe I didn't feel much difference because that's just me. I didn't feel much difference when I installed the NSX-R sway bar either.

Excellent write up, thank you for your photos.

Regarding other's questions... the installation using the brackets we make would be identical. The only change would be that no grinding is required and the brackets sit on the insides of the factory tie down brackets since our brackets take into account the standard NSX width that is different than the NSX-R.

Cheers,

Chris, is it true that the NSX=R chassis bars are on 5 week back order? :frown:

I ordered my front and lower bars from SOS at about the end of last month. They told me they had a shipment coming in in a few weeks. My parts arrived at my door last Thursday, the 19th. I'll bet that by the time the shipment came in to SOS, all of the bars were already sold. I doubt they ever stock more than a handful of them, as they likely sell very quickly since they are so relatively inexpensive and so many rave about the difference they make.

Directly from the email i received from SOS 3 days after my order.

"Thanks for your order. Just wanted to let you know - the chassis bars are inbound from Japan; we should receive them in approx 5 weeks."

OK, i need some help here. My car goes into the shop monday morning and the bars won't be here untill after it's completed. Will i be able to install the front one without removing the nose?

I thought i would have the shop trim the radiator duct when they have the nose off but if the bar can't be installed i don't want them to trim it.

Thanks

I am curious if anyone has done an install with the new Science of Speed end brackets for the front top bar? Does this mean no cutting of the plastic? From the pics it looks like you need to cut either way.

Thanks,

Nik

I installed the chassis reinforcement bars today using SOS's end brackets. The installation was fairly easy the fit was good..everything matched right up. I spent more time fiddling with the radiator shroud getting it in/out and marking the lines for the cuts to be made to clear the bars. But I think I made it harder than it needed to be with all the measuring and stuff. I used a Dremal tool, but probably could of used a pair of shears just as well.

I was able to do the install without having to remove the nose bumper (mine's a 93). Looking at all the stuff from the top of the radiator is worse that it actually is.

Once the radiator shroud was wiggled out, there was plenty of room to work and install the bars. Be careful with the ratchet wrench handle, though. I could see how one of the other gent's techincian put a hole in the radiator.

I left the shroud in the sun for a little before reinstalling it to make it more flexible.

All in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought it could have been.

I can have the duct cut when the shop has the bumper cover off. Would that make it any easier to remove later when i get the bars?

To be honest with you, I'm not sure. Are the ducts and the room available to work with different on a 2002?

In the course of marking the cut, I had to install and remove the duct twice. (I know, measure twice, cut once). It was a hassle, but took no longer than 10 minutes to reinstall to check the fit. Having the cuts already done on the second install didn't make it any easier, though heating in the sun sure did.

I have no idea about the room but if you look at the 3rd picture i believe the duct on the 2002+ is marked where to cut.

Plus you were uninstalling the duct with the bar installed, correct? I would be removing the duct precut without the bar.

Thanks

Sweet,

I just received a automated message that my NSX-R bars will be delivered tomorrow  . One week earlier than expected. The car is still in the shop so maybe i can get them to install.

Hi buddy,

The reason I posted this is so you would see it. No, i haven't heard from SOS since i ordered 4 weeks ago except for the initial e-mail that said my order would take 5 weeks . I received a automated phone call today from the shipper saying that a delivery from SOS would be here tomorrow.

Yea I spoke to UPS and they said its my chassis bars... I asked what the weight was to see if my NSX-R Anti-Sway / Front stabilizer bars were in there and he said 7 lbs... so it looks like this will be coming in later... gonna put it all together at once ;)

WOOT! Finally got my chassis bars! UPS finally came! Now I just have to wait to get my stabilizer bars mmmmmmm

I took the front bar to the shop today. They haven't installed the front bumper yet so they will install the bar.

After they paint it LBBP that is  .

So enkrypt3d,
You still going with the "night rider" lights on your bar?
