Nissan GTR test times... wow..

Actually I think the new STi is an improvement in looks and usability. I could actually throw a stroller and other kid stuff into the back. It's still ugly, and it took some getting used to, but now I like it more than the previous generation.

I too (being a new parent) like the usability of the new STi...and at first I didn't think it looked that bad...but after watching this : http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/VideosGalleryIndex#7
I've decided that it's pretty nasty. (and by nasty, I don't mean I wouldn't buy one as a daily driver...because honestly, if it gets the job done, I don't care what it looks like)

The fact that the GT-R has back seats is attractive to me, since I could have my wife AND kid in the car if need be. Not sure about the stroller...but the trunk looks big enough. The NSX is definitely not a family car. lol

I don't know what people are talking about, but I think the car looks bad ass.
I would get one, if I didn't have to get rid of the NSX to make it.

For those new guys looking at getting a recent NSX for 60K+ or a new GT-R, unless you have good FI on the NSX or you are a big die hard NSX biggot (how could you be, you don' thave the NSX yet), I think you will seriously regret it.

Stock for stock, the GT-R will run circles around an NSX, any day of the week, in all conditions, all weather. And when your buddy drives by you like you're standing still...never mind, you get it.

Even though it might be heavier, relatively minor mods will shave 100+ lbs, and serious mods can probably do 300+ lbs. The suspension is plenty given the track performance and the AWD.

The whole comparison between "take this car x for xx grand and add 15K" is silly. When evaluating relative value you compare stock to stock and moidfied to modified. You can take a used Z06 or Viper - spend 15K to add a turbo and such and have a 700+ RWHP car that will do quarter in 10s (9s?), more power than you can handle around the track, and do 215+ MPH. Spend smoke more go-fast crack and you can have a 1000+ HP that will rival a Veyron, all for under or around one hundred grand (I think, if you start with a used Viper or get a modded off the market..)

At the end of the day, a GT-R modified & lightened will r**** pretty much 95+% of everything out there. Good job Nissan, shame on you Honda!

I think you should get the GT-R Eric. I am on your side.:)

So a WRX guy had a problem with the "looks" of the GT-R?

Honestly, some people find the car very good looking....it's a matter of taste. The performance is definitely there, and if you like the idea of a 2+2 you have to consider it.
The NSX is a work of art...no doubt...this car is something different. If there is a market for EVO's and STi's, there's a market for this car.
I think it's good looking in a "Mad Max" sort of way.
Not saying I would dump my NSX for one, but I may dump my S4..

The front just looks ... kind of weird. To say the least except for the side air intake in the front I can't really see it a $70K car. A modded G35 would probably look better ...

A modded G35 isn't going to do 3.3 to 60 and 11 sec 1/4 miles with a warranty.

Honestly, I'm surprised how many people don't like the look of this car. So many of you say "I would never buy a 911 because it's so anonymous..there's too many around...blah blah". Here's your chance to own something that looks like no other, badass to the core...there ain't nothing pretty about it and it gets the job done.

Buy it in black and tell the world to f*** off. That's what this car says. BTW- it has back seats. It has AWD...you can drive it everyday and blow the doors off pretty much anything else out there. What is not to like?

Is it pretty? Hell no...and that might be the best thing about it.

Until now we have had no Japanese car that could hang with 911's, Vipers and Vettes... most of us wouldn't touch any of these cars for various reason.

Now Japan releases something truly amazing, wraps it in 2 doors, awd, v6 with twin turbos and says, "here, we're even going to sell it for half what we should" and you b****es still complain. My lord.

How snobby have we become? I for one am very excited for this car and will embrace it's performance and price and learn to love it, because quite honestly, it looks damn good, especially know what kind of ass kicking it can deliver.

I've grown weary of Honda's wishy-washy approach towards their replacement halo car. I'm shopping around for a replacement car, leaning towards high performance coupes with USEABLE rear seats. (friends, baby, etc.) I'm still not 100% sold on the look of the GT-R - still a bit too chunky for me viewed from certain angles - but the sheer performance and relative practicality is hard to ignore.

Take it easy E.
I know how you feel... Most people dislike the GT-R inspite of it's make (Nissan)
That car deserve "respect" is all I have to say.

I think this is one of those cars that looks much better in person than in photos in magazines. I too, was not a fan of its looks until I saw it up close at the LA auto show. I must say, its not as beautiful as the NSX, but it certainly is dramatic. It looks really sharp/aggressive in person, and is going to have some serious "Dont F' with me" road presence. The car is all about function, what with .27 coefficient of drag, AWD, and 7:38 laptime at the 'ring, there is NO performance short fall for this car, despite its heft and manu-matic tranny. Imagine whats gonna happen when the proposed lighter-weight models come out!!

I almost feel bad for Honda with how high the sports car bar has been set.... oh wait, no I dont--they don't care about serious performance anymore.

I have to admit, when I saw the prototype, it looked pretty ugly. I tried looking at it from different angles, but the front didn't work. Now, they took out the carbon eye-bags for the headlights, and it's starting to look much better...

Now about performance; it's already established that the horsepower claim Nissan threw out was underrated, at least according to the standard way of rating horsepower (to the flywheel). So even though the engine is actually producing somewhere of 550 flywheel horsepower, 0-60 in 3.3 seconds is pretty darn impressive, even if the short gears help get that figure too. I'm still trying to save up big for my next car (I'm pretty determined to get a used NSX and tune it a bit), but this car looks special, and I might even consider it once it lands in the U.S.
