Nissan GTR test times... wow..

Hmm won't a GTR spank a scuderia???

I agree. DIFFERENT LEAGUES! Totally. Even if the GTR got 700 hp and out-accellerated the Scuderia I'm pretty damn sure it would still be a pleasure beyond what GTR can ever deliver... You got sports cars and then you got super cars... GTR = Sport Scuderia = Super

^ I'm not sure how accurate that is.. did they get their letter yet from Nissan? Dealers are sopposed to know this week how many they are getting (and if they were accepted), but perhaps your dealer got their allotment letter early?

I'm good friends with the service department...they've known since summer that they were going to be one of the dealerships here in Seattle to get the GT-R (if not the only one in Seattle). They get special equipment and training to be able to service this car. (something like one person at the dealership is trained to work on the car...they don't just want anyone in there!)

I'm also good friends with the sales manager...his wife is my office manager. She got back to me last night that they're getting 3...and one was already spoken for. I have no idea what colors, etc etc...

I think I can wait a year or two before I pull the trigger...the lack of a manual bothers me....(my daily driver is a 6-spd S4)...and I also really don't want to get rid of my NSX. I think I'm going to get a GT-R in addition to the NSX, but then I ask myself if that really makes sense.

Do you trade your current pretty girlfriend in for an uglier one with bigger boobs? Well, sure, if you're a boob guy...

NSX in a heartbeat.
+1

yup, not even close. the gtr is butt-ugly, which is only moderately offset (imho) by its performance.

otoh, the nsx remains an absolutely beautiful car whose performance can be improved significantly for a relatively small amount of $.

After seeing Nissan with this new GT-R, I have lost all hopes and expectations from Honda. *sigh*
I am glad I made an early decision to keep my NSX for as long as I live. Juiced her up and I will be fine.

I thought the same thing when I saw the OP this morning. Really, where do you go from here? At this level of performance, just how important would it be for someone to come out with a 2.9sec 10.5 1/4 mile car for under $100K? I don't have a problem with the lack of a manual, I do however have a problem with the looks. I was talking about this with the guys at the office today (one was a previous Elise owner, the other a WRX guy) and we were all floored by the numbers, but we all agreed it was butt ugly and we'd have a hard time buying it simply because of that (we're all pretending for a moment here we could actually afford one).

As much as I love the NSX, the specs and performance on the GTR is impossible to ignore. I still have some time to decide which car to get.... Question, if you had to pick an NSX (2005- low miles) or a new GTR (no markup, around the same price as an '05), which would you get? This is my dilemma.....

By the supply/demand numbers I don't think it's possible to get the 09 GTR at MSRP, unless you have connection ...

Going rate of premium is $30 - $40K above MSRP.

I hate to say it but forget the nsx. I don't care about looks or else I would get a Ferrari and enjoy it being in the shop. I will take the GT-R track it and enjoy it. :) Also wait until it starts to get modded should be the fastest car made.

Well lets not go to far talking down on the nsx ,who knows Honda might have something up its sleeves ,(I HOPE)that we don't know about yet. But the GTR is going to be a killer. Just wait until the Underground/tuner guys get one and then we will see it running 10's all day and night.

Who cares what the car looks like. Especially when the majority of us will only see a streak or tail lights if we're lucky when it blows by us at mach 1.
There are turbocharged Neons around here that can beat me up the on-ramp, but I don't want one of them either. Looks matter and the opportunities to actually go at mach 1 are extremely limited.

I totally understand that there's a subset of us for whom absolute highest performance numbers is a top priority. I'm just not one of that group.

For $70K you get alot of performance but you will be tired of the looks and wana be Porsche Turbo comparisons. Yes its fast but the engine is on the wrong place and it doesn't look very special. Ask any dreamer would you rather have a Ferrari F-355 or Porsche Turbo or Turbo NSX or a nissan? 70K I would much rather have a 996 TT drop 15k and have a 500+horse power Porsche Turbo. Better yet a Turbo NSX. In the end of the day I will know I have a car with years of developement and value.

One could easily pick up a clean Z32 Twin turbo for $10k and drop 25K into it and make it just as fast total price=35K with much better looks and less weight. Everyone is so hyped with the performance that they overlook the entire package. Anyway thats marketing for you, build an ugly car with tons performance and make your money before it goes deceased in 5 years when the fad dies.

hahah... I love your biased post...."or a nissan." This is how you should have said it:

Ask any dreamer would you rather have a Ferrari F-355 or Porsche Turbo or Turbo NSX or a GTR? 7

or

Ask any dreamer would you rather have a Ferrari F-355 or Porsche Turbo or Turbo Honda or a Nissan? 7

^ And with that said, the dreamer is going to pick the Ferrari 9/10 times.

Looks are completely subjective. You may say ugly, but go on a few other forums and you will see hundreds of people that absolutely love the looks of the GTR. Personally, I'm not 100% convinced, I still need to see it in person. I'm not trying to bash anyone, just playing devil's advocate since I love the NSX and the GTR.

^ Personally, I disagree. A FI NSX has less value to me then a stock one.

Again, the looks are subjective. Many ppl think the Z32 is dated. I even have friends who think the NSX is dated (to which I disagree)....

I have dropped MORE then 25k into my Z33, but it does not compare to the peace of mind of having a car turbo'd from the factory.

Maybe in a straight line, but I doubt that car would lap the Ring in 7:38. Keep in mind the NSX-R did it in 7:56 and the Zonda F I think was 7:35. The GTR has top performance in all areas.

I would rather have a low key super fast car. I speed A LOT and try doing that in a Ferrari, it's just not going to happen. I like how the car blends in and is superfast as well. I guess most people just want the bling or to be able to say I have a 997 TT but I could care less. Guess I am not the norm :)

well we're not talking about modified cars or neons lol.

It's not mach 1 that actually the best part, I'd say it's from Zero to mach .5  mach 1 if you've got the space

So a WRX guy had a problem with the "looks" of the GT-R?

Honestly, some people find the car very good looking....it's a matter of taste. The performance is definitely there, and if you like the idea of a 2+2 you have to consider it.
The NSX is a work of art...no doubt...this car is something different. If there is a market for EVO's and STi's, there's a market for this car.
I think it's good looking in a "Mad Max" sort of way.
Not saying I would dump my NSX for one, but I may dump my S4..

He agreed his WRX is ugly as well. Like you, I put this car into that same ugly boat as the STi and Evo.

At some point we have to consider Japanese culture/design. Ugly to us, but very functional. Definitely not Italian. lol.
What do you think Honda would make the next NSX look like? So far the latest show cars are pretty hideous.
We may have just gotten very lucky...I guess if I had to drive an "ugly" car, the GT-R would be it.
STi not so much...and have you seen the new STi? Looks like a Ford Focus.

Actually I think the new STi is an improvement in looks and usability. I could actually throw a stroller and other kid stuff into the back. It's still ugly, and it took some getting used to, but now I like it more than the previous generation.

Given how hard the launch control is on the car, what does that mean for the warranty? Someone here at work said that it's also an option on the Exige, but if you use it (or order the option, he was unclear which), it voids the warranty.

I like it. It's raw and looks mean. It looks like a car I can drink beers with.

If I wanna a pretty car, I'll get me a New Beetle.

They never said if the US cars got the launch control. I don't think any of the cars that have launch control overseas have it on their US models.
