Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

They will POP ... first they need to make some $$$ with pics .. then some $$ with videos!
i can't wait to hear the V10 .. for real!
i hope honda does a good job with the exhaust ...
Oscar

Same here. V10s all have that exotic sound....except for the viper!

Re: Come on folks, it is not the next NSX but the CRX

it seems like no one has yet answered this question.

from a performance perspective... weight distribution is absolutely critical. most people believe that a 50/50 distribution is ideal... but that is not true. 50/50 is ideal in only one situation... and that is mid-corner. at every other point it is sub optimal. a REAR-ward weight bias is advantageous for a couple of reasons:

1. it brings the center of mass closer to the center of rotation... which greatly reduces the polar moment of inertia. this makes the car more nimble.

2. i am sure you are aware that during braking, a lot of weight shift to the front wheels... which results in the rear wheels not adding much to your braking force. a rear weight bias helps to keep significant weight on the rear wheels which results in better braking performance.

3. accelerating out of a corner... once again... the additional weight over the rear wheels give better traction, allowing better power delivery.

yes, there are cars that are NOT mid-engined that can outperform mid-engine cars... but that is because they use other things (drivetrain, HP, etc) to compensate for their inferior (from a performance perspective) platform. the fact of the matter is that if everything else is roughly equal (HP, overall weight, etc) a mid-engine car will handle better than other platforms.

so does this mean that the next honda supercar MUST be mid-engined?

not necessarily. regardless of whether we think they should or not... i dont think honda is trying to built the BEST performing car in the world. we have to recognize that the NSX, as highly acclaimed as it was, ultimately did not make honda a lot of money. sure... honda is not trying to make civic/accord level sales with their flagship car... but it would be nice (from the company's perspective) to have a car that is able to sell better.

so perhaps from that perspective, their design changes make sense. there are practical drawbacks to a MR layout... reduced cabin and trunk/storage space. it certainly appears that honda is taking this car the GT route (ala 599/612/etc) but it is very likely still going to be a serious performer because it will (hopefully) make up for the sub-optimal platform with... something!

will the lifelong NSX brethren/fans be happy about it? some will some wont.
will the car pick up new fans/buyers? i sure as hell hope so :)

One thing you didn't add is that mid engine allows the designer to do a very short, very low nose. A more raked windsheild, and a lower roofline. If you ask most designers, they will tell you they are free'd up from many design limitations when they don't have to make space for the engine up front. If it wasn't for the mid engine, our NSX would never look as low-slung and beautiful. There is also less drivetrain power loss on a mid-engine rear-drive car.

Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

I dont know how u guys can even think thats an S2000. I dont see honda putting 6 pot and 4 pot fornt and rear brakes on an S2000 replacement. Face it guys.....this is the NSX replacement whether u like it or not!

Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

"elongated S2000 test mule" ... that's the term used normally on prime ... i don't recall people saying it's a S2k in here ....

naaa they are just joking ... believe me, people here want 2 things:

1) This new acura/honda GT car not to be called NSX

2) The concept HSC, either with a V10 or better a V8 with @ least 400HP (which is not much nowadays but hey, look @ Lotus) with a light chassis and more important .. an MR configuration .... MR lightness/chassis was the secret of the old NSX great performance when released,, + the exotic factor that this GT doesn't have and the HSC had .... b/c believe me a CLEAN nicely maintained and done 91-05 NSX (lowered a bit, with 17"-18" and small Type-R like aero looks as good as any modern exotic/supercar ... a car like THAT could be called the "new" NSX or the nsx "replacement"....

I agree whole heartedly. Hence why im going to start my NSX search soon. The owner of the dealership o work for has an 05 yellow NSX that he drives about 10 times a year! Im trying to convince him to sell it to me!

Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

A lot of people are pretty harsh on the car. Let's wait to judge until we see it without the camo. My initial feeling is one of relief, that they didn't REALLY mess it up. They could have done much worse. I, too, wish they would make a cheap Zonda or Gallardo (mid engine, V10, aggressive), but what we are getting here seems like it may be a decent GT car. I really like the rear. Hopefully it is not as heavy as an M6, but some lighter Honda equivalent.

I don't care what anybody says, that is NOT an NSX.

Agreed.

BTW, why was this created in "NSX Owner Discussion" - it should be in "Second Generation NSX / HSC Discussion" (and where is the forum nazi, so I don't have to be)?

nastinupe1, if you're going to create topics, please be familiar with the categories/forums of this board...and please only create one topic for each subject (this is the same topic, also in wrong place).

Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

If anybody wants to know the size of this car, head on over to vtec.net. Some guys there did a pretty good job to figure out the size.

Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

"With this 21.5" dimension, a clear profile shot of the mule, and Photoshop's ruler tool, it's relatively easy to calculate the overall length and height of the test vehicle. Danielgr and King77 got slightly different numbers than I did, but based upon my calculations I came up with an overall length of around 4370mm (172 inches) and a height of 1300mm (51.2 inches) )Updated with re-calculation). The wheelbase appears to be around 2650mm (104.3 inches). The previous NSX was a little bit longer, not quite as tall, and slightly narrower, and had a shorter wheelbase. Note that there are likely to be some errors in our calculations, but the ratios should all be pretty close, so if we miscalculated the wheelsize, then the numbers will skew one way or the other. If we're off on our numbers, we're guessing it's on the high side - the real car could be smaller than these figures indicate.

The following chart compares our estimated dimensions of the prototype to the 2004 NSX, 2009 GT-R, 2008 Porsche 911 GT2, and 2008 Corvette."

HUmmm a bit taller than the S2k ... and much tall than the NSX .. this new GT is serious business ... hopefully opens the door for a true MR sportscar that can come later ..

Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

It's no NSX, but it is definitely ALOT better than that turd ASCC. From that video, it sounds mean! Lets see what more info we can get pretty soon.

Re: Spy Shots: First images of 2011 Acura NSX

At least it sounds good.

The pitch of the engine and the exhaust sounds seems to be in between Gallardo's V10 and BMW M5/M6's V10.. Look forward to seeing more videos!
