I currently have an 05 NSX, 05 S2000, and an 05 RL.

I'm thinking of trading in my S2000 and getting either an 07 Porsche Cayman S or Boxster S in White/Tan. If I go with the Cayman S they have one that just came off the truck yesterday that I can get tomorrow. For the Boxster S in that color it would be December or January before they could get me one. That's not a big deal either way.

Here's my problem: I love the rear look of the Cayman S better than the rear look of the Boxster S. It looks more masculine and mean to me than the Boxster.

However, I'm worried that maybe I would miss having a convertible if I trade my S2000 on the Cayman S instead of the Boxster S. At the same time, my NSX does have the Targa top.........but would that be the same???? Also, I can't just push a button and just drop the top with my Targa.........that's more complicated and I probably wouldn't take out the top as much as I would otherwise. At the same time.......I don't drop the top on my S2000 at all in the summer because it's soo hot......but it is great to do in the fall and winter here.

If you were me.......would you get the Cayman S or the Boxster S and why???????????

Or would you just get rid of the Yellow S2000 and get an 07 White S2000?? That's the other thing I was thinking of doing before today......because I want a white car and I like the red/black seat combo that's on the 07 white S2000's.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

cayman S..I heard that it performs a little bit better than the boxster!!

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

cayman S cause the boxster is a piece

(and i think the cayman is the best lookin porsche, minus the GT2, GT1 and GT ofc)

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

Wow, I wish I had dilemmas like yours.

If I did have the same dilemma, I'd go for the Boxster S. The Cayman, being a mid-engined 295 hp 3000-lb coupe is too similar to an NSX.

The Boxster S as a convertible gives you the variety and has that uber convenient one-touch button you're looking for in lowering/raising the top even while driving up to 30mph

I agree while adding that the Boxster is smililar also. I'd say stay true with your allstar Honda lineup and go for the new S2K.

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

I never understand when people call the Boxster a 'chick car.' It's a fabulous sportscar.

I'm no help, I don't think you can go wrong with either :)

Chick car "looking". Never said it was a "chick car". That would be reserved for like....neons and beetles....

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

I'm making no assumptions on our financial situation, but if I were you, I'd save my money (invest it) and keep the S2000.

I'm sure the Cayman is fun, and the Boxter is ok, but going topless (not just t-top) in a car that rotates around corners like the S2000 is a feeling that you will miss.

I find myself driving our S2000 more than our NSX lately and I keep wondering why we didn't get the S2000 sooner.

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

I drove the Cayman a few weeks back. Feels a lot like the NSX. I could not live without a convertible in the summer. If I lived in Florida I would have a convertible available to me at all times.

While at the Porsche dealer I did end up buying a Cayenne S for the winter. I traded in my A4 Cab on the Cayenne. I am going to buy a Boxster or 911 cab in the spring.

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

Personally I think if Ace and Gary drove a car it would be the S2000. Why? Because I live in Sarasota where I've seen a lot of heterosexually challenged men who drive them. Last one I saw had a rainbow dog on the back. WTF does that mean?

I've lived in FL for 13 years so I know your summer pain. If it wasn't for my wife's fear of the sun ageing her skin I'd have a convertible. If you like the top off stick with it, it's really only 3 months that it gets tough.

To me the Cayman says "I couldn't afford a 911".

Go with the boxter, it's a great car and it doesn't make you look like you're driving a giant panis.

Hahaha!! Sooo true. How many 911 owners are TRUE enthusiasts versus poseurs??? 2%? 5%? Give the Cayman 2 years it will be the penultimate "almost there" 911 car. Think of all the Boxter wannabes and multiply by 100 when you have a Cayman that looks exactly like a 911.

Re: Need help with an Dilemma.............

As others have said, O to have such a dilemma.

Since you change cars every other year or so, I'd say it doesn't really matter. You're buying a toy, not something that you intend to keep and cherish. Nothing wrong with that at all -- I'd do the same if I didn't have kids and mortgages and colleges etc to pay for. Flip a coin, and if you don't like it, swap it for the other.

 The Cayman I tested was almost 70k. They had a Cab 911 for 85K. I don't think 15k would be the deciding factor for most people who buy the Cayman S.

The Cayman S and Boxster S (w/ Hardtop) that I configured with the options I want to order once I make my decision are each $76k. The base 911 is $3k LESS than that. To configure the base 911 with the same options it is only $83k....... The $6k difference isn't going to be a valid reason for why I choose the Cayman S or Boxster S over the 911.

Also the 07 Boxster S now has the same engine as the Cayman S.

I'm actually now mulling over the possibility of going with the 911 configured that way. HOWEVER..........................

The MAIN reason I was thinking loaded Cayman S over the base 911 is because I think the side and rear views of the Cayman look alot better than the 911's. The rear view of the Cayman looks really mean. I'm not that into the racing differences because I never track my cars or do any kind of racing.

My biggest reason for considering the loaded Boxster S over the base911 with my options is because other than the 911 not having the side scoops..... since I'm not interested in the bigger engine because I won't be racing it........ I really don't think there is that much of a difference in the exterior look of the 911from the Boxster S and with the Boxster S it would be a convertible if that's what I decide I want.

As far as going from the Boxster S to the base 911 Cabriolet. Again, because of the slight difference in exterior look........I don't think it would be worth it for me to pay the extra $23k to get into the 911 Cabriolet with the options I want.

All 3 choices have the Bose surround system, the extended navigation system, leather sport steering wheel, Bi-Xenon headlights, power seat option, colored wheel crests, CD changer, self-dim mirrors and rain sensor, Chrome exhaust pipe, Carrera White instrument panel, Porsche crest in seat headrests, stainless steel, Illuminated door entry guards where the model name lights up when you open the door.

The following options were not available as a choice on the 911, but they are included in my configuration for the Cayman S and the Boxster S:
Porshe Active Suspension Management (also lowers the car .4") and the Sport Shifter.
(I'm guessing maybe the 911 already has those since it's not an option???????? Anybody know???)

Also, for the prices listed above.....the Cayman S and Boxster S would have the 19" Carerra Sport wheels that are a $2,395 option. The 911 would have the 18" Carerra III wheel that came standard.

So THAT is all my reasoning and the things I'm mulling over now. It will either be a loaded Cayman S or loaded Boxster S for $76k or the base 911 loaded to have ALMOST everything I put on the other 2 cars for $83k.

One other thing........here in Florida from April through September, it's so hot day and night that I rarely ever put my top down during those 6 months. December and January, it's usually so cold that I rarely put my top down during those 2 months. October, November, February, and March I do put the top down alot.

In 13 months of having my NSX, I only have not even 4,500 miles on my it because I never want to drive it if the weather isn't going to be perfect and free from rain. I need to get over that and drive it in the rain. Perhaps getting a non-convertible Porsche would be a good thing for me.... because it would force me to drive the NSX more?????

What is everybody's opinions on my reasoning and those 3 choices?

PS...... the color I'm going to get is Carrera White with Sea Blue leather and if the Boxster, then also the Metropol Blue cloth top.

Yeah I ordered two and sent the bill to you Len.

It might not be what your into but a C6Z06 is about equal to the pcire of the Porsche. If you arent buying right now I imagine there will be some nice Z's in the next year in the mid to low 60's.

I'm looking to buy soon.........but I'm just not at all into American cars.

Get anything but a Boxster!! As you know, there's one at every street corner here in Orlando.

Also, how come you aren't registered for NSXPO in 2 weeks, living here?? My car doesn't make yours look that bad sitting next to it.

I hope I can go to NSXPO but right now I'm 95% sure I'm going to be out of town for work during that time. Can you still register that weekend?

Yeah, I know there's alot of Boxsters around...... but if I go with that, I figure I have the NSX for when I feel like driving something more out of the ordinary.

I'm really leaning more toward the Cayman S...... just afraid I'll miss the convertible.
