Need help! Rpm wouldn't rev past 4k

Yes the check light goes on but was wondering what could the car not to rev over 4Krpm?
If the check engine light is on than the computer is outputing error codes because something is not right. I would go to the Manual and start on page 192. This is the troubleshooting guide and will step you through a flow chart to find the problem.
 
I would take it to a reputable NSX mechanic and let him troubleshoot it.

Did you get a Pre Purchase Inspection before you bought the car?
 
not sure what the exact Vtec engagement is for the NSX, but in my GSR, the needle bounced at around 4400 and would not go passed. It was due to a faulty Vtec Solenoid. It happened once again after the solenoid was replaced and it was due to low oil... Again im not sure if the way to check your CEL is the same in my GSR, but underneath the passenger body panels (interior) theres a clip where you insert a paperclip to read your CEL code. Turn the car off, put the clip in so that it relays the signal back into the ECU, and then turn the key to the ACC setting. Your CEL will light up and then blink... count the blinks, its like morris code. One solid blink stands for 10 and a short blink stands for 1... IE: 2 long blinks and 7 shorts is a CEL 27... you would then check that code either on here, or in your helms/chiltons... if you dont have one of those BUY ONE!!! best investment for your car... Hope this helps and good luck with the NSX... i hope to own one buy the end of the year... until then I will lurk in the shadows and possibly win the lottery or get lucky in AC...
 
I just bought an NSX and it doesn't rev past 4K rpm on neutral or on gears. What do you think is the problem?

is the engine warmed up? computer will cut rpm if engine is cold
 
- Disconnect battery
- Reconnect
- Start engine, wait for engine light to turn on.
- Pull codes as Comtec suggested.

Stop driving your car, if the ECU cuts your car at 4krpm, there must be something pretty wrong.
 
what year is it? 1991-1994 that sounds like its in limp mode No timing and 4K rev limiter. its what mine does when i crank it without the chip in it. it may have been chipped before you bought it and the owner took the chip out left it in limp mode.or it could be anything that causes the car to be in limp mode.
