Need help on keyless entry remote

I just got a 1996 NSX-T. The previous owner said he lost the keyless entry remote and all I need to do is go to an Acura dealer and give them the VIN# and they should be able to order the remote for about $70 each. But when I went to the dealer, they said they'll have to get under the glove compartment to check if the "brain" is installed. If not, it'll cost me $750 for the brain and the remote. But when I called Acura Customer Care, they said the dealer can order the remote with the VIN, since all 1996 & later model came with brain pre-installed, but the dealer will have to order it for me. Can anyone help me on this? Do you know who's right? How can I get a remote without the dealer charging me an arm and leg? Thank you in advance.

A 91-01 NSX keyless entry transmitter can ONLY be ordered with the serial number of the control unit, or the number from one of the original remotes. Any Acura dealer can order with this info, but unfortunately Kenwood is on back order status with them.

Thank you guys for replying. So you know where I can find the serial number of the control unit? I went under the glove compartment and found several UPC bar code with numbers on them. Do you know which one it is? How many digits should there be? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Nsx Service Girl,

Thanks for the good advice.

Are you a service advisor or an NSX tech for an Acura dealership? (Hope you don't mind me asking.) If so, make sure your NSX customers know that NSXPO 2002 will be held in your town this November!
