My first NSX "hater" experience

alum04org has had his car longer than me so I will have to give it another few years and I'll report back -- LOL! Seriously, we're going to encounter this type of nonsense from time to time and yes, lots of "out of a job yet -- keep buying foreign" around these parts. Fortunately the reactions to my car have been more positive than negative on balance. And not to slam MI/Detroit (as a Cdn expat living in the greater Detroit area now more than 20 years I try not to slam MI/Detroit) this is the town where many years ago a couple of auto workers beat an Asian fellow to death in a bar to express their frustration with imported Japanese cars. Humanity -- lovely.

Best,
Jeff

That stuff happens. A few weeks ago at a meet a guy walks up and asks:

"What kind of car is that?" I respond with "it's an NSX". He says "oh, my friend over there says it's a Civic". (of course, he is hoping for a response)

...so rather than speaking my mind, I just stare at him blankly; saying nothing...and I stare at him...and we stand there...and he looks for a response...and I stare...

...finally he got the idea. I don't have time to waste talking with idiots.

Near the Windsor area, they have car stickers that read "want to be jobless? Keep buying foreign"..

I LOVE driving right up to them and smiling, hahaha ... I'm so unethical.

I want a bumper sticker that says:

"Out of a job yet? Keep building crap cars."

By the logic expressed by those two, People driving a domestic pos should beat the crap out those d--- each time their car breaks down to express their frustration with shoddy engineering and lackluster design...maybe they should just do that each time they see their car on the parking lot..lol.

I would've just laughed at them and drove off.

Let's see some photos of your NSX. It could be just ur NSX and whatever mods u may have.

I get praises and wow's with my NSX. I'm sure most people on this forum have seen it. And couple that with the STMPO exhaust and SOS SC. I rev the engine and lots of the domestic guys snap their head around and can't even mutter a word. They have problems keeping their mouths closed.

The only comments I get is that my car looks and sounds like it belongs on the track.

Camaro is a nice car, not a POS that can't handle. I've seen plenty of 1G+ cornering Camaros out handle some really high end imports in autox.

Some pics I just posted on flickr:

lol +1000 on that one. Wish I could have seen his face. Act a fool and get treated like one. Classic!

NSX track day....5 show up.
NSX hater thread..... 59 replies....am I missing something?

Fine, here is my story...

I had just got off of work and was driving my S2000 around looking for a gas station. I come to a red light in the turn lane and a late '80s Ford Mustang with two yutes pull up next to me. When the light turns green they yell, "Nice chick car!" and speed away. Unfortunately for them, they missed what I had to say next...

"Thanks, it's my wife's."

lol...wait...how's an S2K a chicks car when most of it's owners from what I've seen are guys. Maybe they were referring to how nothing was rusting off yet or maybe the fact that you had a motor that was actually functioning properly and not making sounds similar to a steam engine... That's ok though...they're kids...eventually they'll get good jobs and then experience the joys of driving better vehicles (hopefully). Heck I had a ruster at 16 (almost 17) for about 6 months...drove the thing everywhere until it finally died and got my first Honda (Civic...and there started my love of Japanese imports and years of dumping money into a depreciating asset to "go fast" and look good doing it).

On a similar note, we have a contract in Windsor this summer and I have had to spend quite a bit of time down there getting the project up and running. When I had been there for a few weeks, the site surveyor came up to me and we had this exchange.

"Who's car is that?" Points to my Civic

"Mine, why?" Playing coy

"Well, you're awfully brave driving that around here"

"Hmm, why do you say that" Still playing coy.

"People around here don't like foreign cars y'know"

"You realize that my car was built in Alliston, and your truck was built in Kansas, right?"

"Try telling people around here that"

"I generally don't associate with idiots like that" as I turned and walked away.

Now, I know that Kansas is well within the NAFTA, but I mean come on, why would you walk up to a stranger, who is paying your invoice, and try to insult them on a personal level.

Sean - interesting stuff. The "site surveyor" was a uni*n guy or no?

I believe Windsor is a really nice city BTW, and upon visiting there in NSX have always thought "imports" were more accepted there than in the Motor City. Oh well, never know.

You know what, I completely agree; 99% of the people here are great and very hospitable. That one guy, who knows what his agenda was but as we all know most people tend to focus on their negative experiences. I mean what kind of a story would telling you there was more than one occasion that someone held the door for me st Starbucks?

As far as being a nice city, my wife child and I walked down along the riverfront tonight and I absolutely agree.
