Mobile Phones... suggestions?

Is there much "real-world" difference between the V3 stock "keepin it real" model and the V3X. Reason I ask is there is one plan that includes only the V3X but it costs AUD$18/month. I've searched the net, and apart from the 2MP camera and "3G" buzzword, I cant find any difference on paper.

Choosing a mobile and plan is soooooooooooo complicated these days! :(

over-achieving base model...

The RAZR V3x seems desirable if your needs are:

- 3G: 2way-video calling (VGA)
- SCREEN3: live streaming (sports, news, finance)
- more powerful 2MP camera (8x zoom)
- gaming/video/audio (removable 512mb Transflash memory)
- mp3

(V3x is slightly thicker than V3)

Otherwise the RAZR V3 should suffice!

I learned long ago... a mobile/cel' phone should primarily be for calls, a digital camera should be for taking photos, a PDA should be for appointments and schedules/tasks, a MP3 player should be for listening to music, a web-cam should be for voice-chats/calls, etc. When one device tries to do too many things, it does none of them particularly well enough for you to even want to use those peripherals... :frown:

My preferences for a mobile/cel' phone tend to be...

- looks/style
- reliability
- performance (for calls/communicating)

Almost analogous to the NSX...

may I make a very far fetched suggestion?

how about an i-mate JAM?

I bought one a couple of days ago, and I'm the type that really hates complicated mobiles,, nd I'm really starting to get used to the advanced task scheduling this thing has to offer. You can also go for an "SCANDISK SD plus USD" card and you're almost connected to everything in the world with a powerful device.

Just buy a used one and try it out for a couple of days, if you don't like it, you can sell it and you won't loss much due to depreciation

Up until now, my impression is, that it is very bulky and the weight is too much if a burden, but the more I learn of its functions the less detestable it becomes for me

Since you elected to go Razr- I vote for black. I am very happy with mine.

It is a nice stealth flat black. The polished ones are forever marred with fingerprints.

You didn't really give me chance to say yes or no there. :D
I looked at the i-mate, but only for 1 second. The reason is because of my line of work I work with PDA's running Windows Pocket PC 2003 all the time. When it works it's cool, but when it does work...ARGH!!! I really wouldn't want to depend on Microsoft to run my phone.

But thanx for the suggestion all the same. :)

This brings up the blackberry which was mentioned in a previous post. I set one of those up for a client, and was looking forward to it after hearing so much about them. After performing the installation I was less than impressed. I wouldn't recommend them for the same reason Osiris_x11 pointed out - devices need to be seperate. The technology is still too immature IMHO.

...like a black NSX or the black door handle on an NSX. :D

I dunno, I'm pretty happy with my blackberry. Get a bluetooth headset and you don't have to worry about weird form factor either.

The RAZR is nice (and has an ATI chip in it!), but the UI and camera are a bit weak.

Hmm, both you and Osiris have a really good point which really is true (I almost never ever use the mobile phones built in cameras because they suck big time).

But this PDA+phone combo has spoiled me rotten. Right now I'm way too use to using it for scheduling my tasks, it has made my life so much easier, I never felt so absent of burdens like this.

Well, except one burden, the mobile itself! It's so heavy! 160g might not look much on a data sheet, but in real life I end up putting in on my table rather than in my pocket, and the size is also too big for me. And the problems of using windows to handle you phone is true, it sort of does all the unexplained stupid things your normal desktop does, but this is really not good when you're expecting to get phone calls or something. And forget about speed, this thing is slow to use, ad it's not to handy, yu can almost never dial with one hand, you always need two, and the buttons arogonomics are not tht good either, and don't even think of dropping it or else it's gone.

I was thinking of buying separate mobile and a separate PDA, but then without doubt the total weight will still be too heavy.

Clearly, technology still has room to advance a little bit more.

Slvr

How about this guy: SLVR

I have a very new (used 2 days) unlocked SLVR L6 that I want to sell. It's a nice phone, I really want to keep it but I'm going to get a PDA phone like the new TREO.

If you or anyone is interested, PM me.

I'd actually have to suggest a Vertu. Granted, I own a Samsung A600 and am very happy with it, but I've played around with a Vertu before and everything about them is more stunning than you can imagine!

Given time, both will integrate. To me, it could be quite natural for a phone (which are basically a mobile contact address book) to have a basic diary function.

Just my opinion though this is really for another thread, If you want a great PDA, get a Palm. The OS is robust and whole package is portable. Pocket PC looks nice, integrates nicely with Outlook and plays WMV, but it's unreliable, freezes, is bloated, and no where as good as a Palm.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP... I got picked up my new phone today... as my avatar depicts. :D I got a Black RAZR, and while i havent had a chance to play with it yet, i'm already very pleased with it. Once I figure out how to get a decent NSX photo on it, i'll take a photo of it. :p :D

BTW, the coolest thing was picked a new phone number. Unfortunately the number xxxx 636 679 was taken (it would have spelled "xxxx NEO NSX") but i got a "679" or "NSX" in my number so that's all that counts. :D :D :D :D ROFL. :D hahaha.... now i know i'm the craziest NSX-nut on the planet. :D :D

You've got some tough competition for that title Neo....

I reckon a close second is possible though...

How is the functions on those phones? I mean, it seems that you pay sooooo much for just the design and exclusivity... :) At the price they want for a Vertu a customer wants something special and unique, just wondering what they offer.

Congratulations NeoNSX :)
