Michigan check-in & spotting by blodi pt.2

http://www.ypsiautoheritage.org/events.htm
This Sunday, June 7th. The Orphan Car Show in Ypsilanti, MI. I dropped by last June, got a parking space quite close to the barricades ( think it was $5 bucks to go inside and see all the "bastards", and I did ). Well worth it.
NSX garnered much interest while there. I'll hit this again Sunday.
You're right Neal, this is a neat event!

Too bad we'll be otherwise engaged or we would join you there

Cheesus, 13,031 views on Blodi's MICHIGAN thread. Not bad.

I dunno what time the Orphan Car Show in Ypsilanti starts on Sunday. I am hoping for no rain!!!

Bri and Judi stopped by tonight in their red 92 NSX (ONLY 29,xxx miles on their clock ) as I was mowing the backyard. Something, maybe, about seeing an NSX?

CoreyK - THX for the compliment(s) ! AND, yes we enjoyed that Nissan Z Car get-together. Hope you decide on an NSX. We need more NSX activity in these parts.

Ok Ryan is that a new front end? As I was looking at your car when you were behind me and the oldest it could possibly be is an 01!

Damn his car is fresh!

I am 100% positive it is an original Perry, it just shows a clear example of how you can enjoy driving your NSX in all sorts of weather (unlike some NSX's around here:rolleyes:) and it washes off w/ good old soap and water.

Its 18 years young! A few minor tweaks make the front end look more modern, but its been through rain many times and even a couple hail storms...no worse for the wear! That said, hope to see you guys later today...although looks like rain so I might not bring the NSX....I try to avoid it if I can help it.

Sounds good Ryan hope to see you later today!

OK, who is IN for Baker's on Sunday afternoon?
The weather is supposed to be mid-70's.........
We'll have a 2009 Corvette to play with for the weekend

Hey Brian, I am O K for Baker's Sunday - say 4 PM if O K with you?

Speed channel may be carrying coverage of 24 Hours of LeMans this weekend - 11 P Sat. night and 6 A Sunday morning.

After waiting around, watching the weather (didn't look favorable) last Sunday, I finally toddled on down to Ypsilanti, MI, for the Orphan Car Show. Got there about 230 P, and some of the Orphans had already shown and were departing. Still some very nice specimens present, though. I would say the the crowd was smaller than last year, and not quite as many cars/trucks showed.

How much fun today? I clocked 128 miles on the Imola, and I reckon the LBBP got the same but -not- flogged as well!!

SCA037, your pal Stu had the path. Your "test drive" of the silver 2009 Chev Corvette was exemplary.

In spite of the questionable clouds, we had a nice dry day for a drive on Saturday....and Sunday the weather was perfect for a trip to Baker's (and it was very cool to be able to check out Scott's 997 Turbo there).
The '09 Corvette we had for the weekend was awesome, and the optional exhaust with the muffler cutouts at full throttle could get a person into a LOT of trouble

OK, we did get to Baker's on Sunday in our S2000.....but both Neal and Al represented the NSX community very well.
This picture, however, has nothing to do with that

Neal needed a guard to protect the throttle lever on his riding mower from getting hit by branches, so I modified a heavy steel cupholder to bolt in front of it.
So now Neal is good-to-go, and has his favorite jar of 'bubble stuff' loaded and ready to do the back 40

A long story about this past weekend but that can wait.

I made the St Ignace (Michigan) Car Show this past Saturday and walked two miles of downtown w/cars and collectibles parked on both sides of the closed main drag.
Lots of nice USA iron (to be expected). A few dogs, where one wonders why someone would register and show it, but what the hay?

I went w/a 1969 Shelby GT350 my pal owns, we parked off the main drag (may enter next year) and took it all in. Weather was perfect! A few thumbnails:

Up North saga part two…….. whilst awaiting the arrival and installation of a used rear axle for my heretofore trusty 1998 GMC Suburban (last Thursday towing ’05 LBBP in trailer up to Gaylord, MI, area, my rear differential tried to “cook” itself), my pal and I decided Tuesday PM to drive the famed Tunnel of Trees.
The Tunnel of Trees is M-119 in Emmet County, MI, between Harbor Springs and Cross Village. It parallels the Lake Michigan shoreline and has many sharp curves and elevation changes (not to mention super scenery).
The weather was not good – overcast, damp, chilly – but that likely meant no one else would be on it!
My pal lead the way in his 1969 Shelby GT350, reporting back to me via two way radio about the road so’s I could enjoy an “enhanced driving experience” Bringing up the rear was a red 1986 M-B 560SL. We arrived there at dusk, and the numerous deer spottings kept me from hitting it too hard! I was too busy driving to take photos of the drive, but a couple of thumbnails below show us on our way there.
At Cross Village we stopped at Legs Inn, an incredible place!

We returned south on C77 to Harbor Springs and Petoskey, then arrived back to Gaylord around midnight. A fun adventure and drive.
The Suburban? Oh, finally repaired to the tune of $1,700, making the St. Ignace Car Show weekend one da-ned expensive weekend. Picked it up yesterday at 545 PM and departed Gaylord with the rig at 715 PM, arriving home 1130 PM in the rain. I sure learned a lot about towing, though…

Thanks for reading.

Oh man, talk about a 'bittersweet' weekend.
The good news is that you got to drive the Tunnel of Trees (our trip through the Dragon was damp as well), and now your 'Burb is tested tough for car towing in advance of NSXPO now

Rock on,
Brian (& Judi ;^)

Neal-

Sorry to hear about the issue with your Suburban, but I'm glad you had a chance to enjoy M119. Had I known you were up here, I'd have met up for food/drinks if you wanted. Glad you had a good time up here in spite of the vehicle issues.

How was the St. Ignace show? It's the same weekend at the Bay Harbor Concours, and that's what I usually attend. The last few times I went to the St. Ignace show, it seemed to have fallen off what it previously had been. It would be nice if it was making a comeback.

Also, as I was headed south yesterday afternoon on I75, I saw a red NSX heading north in the Standish area. It looked like an 02+...

-Aaron

Hello Aaron, You saw an NSX heading up north? Man, I *never* see any NSX's unless we get together... guess that is one of the many reasons why they are soooo cool!

I really have no basis for comparo on the St Iggy Car Show. The only other time I have been there, it was the Saturday of the show but quite late in the day and the show was breaking up. But from what I heard, the classic vehicle attendance this year was "up" from last year. Who knows how much the weather/forecast plays in it, as well.
I also understand that this was the first time where "five-oh" completely blocked/barricaded the main drag, only allowing registered vehicles to pass.
Like you, I have traditionally had conflicts on the show's date(s), so it makes it tough to commit to it.

Have a nice Holiday weekend everyone

Baker's and a drive today?
