Maserati MC12 in the snow!!!

Thats when you know you have too much money.

haha, he looks like a fun guy. Wish I had enough money to laugh about smashing up my $800k super car.

I totally agree with him cars are meant to be driven. It saddens me to think about all the great cars that are sitting idle in some rich guys garage.

That was a cool video, thanks for posting. That rich guy is cool, I like the way he thinks.

He just abused the car,in my opinion.
Drive the right car in the right condition. Maybe he should have taken it off road and see what it can do in the dirt.
That was just stupid.
You are all correct. He has tooooo much money.

It was only a few thousand dollars of damage. I don't think the MC12 was meant to be babied quite like an Enzo anyway.

That was probably about a quarter of a million dollars worth of damage to fix it correctly. This doesn't even include the hit that the car would take on resale value.

In my opinion he doesn't respect the car, I am all about driving and using cars but not abusing them.

I have had my Carrera GT out in two snow storms so I am not above driving nice cars in the snow, but what he did bordered on insanity. Both times I had my CGT out in the snow it was a nice day early on and a storm blew in on my way home.

Which is why this winter I've put insurance on mine as soon as the roads were clear of salt. I've driven my nsx more in January than I did at the close of season in November!

Still wish I had my Evo that I could drive for work on nice days though like last winter....:frown:

The car was not appreciated and totally abused. No fine machine like that should be treated that way no matter how much money one has. The Enzo takes the cake.

I agree that he did not drive the car in the best condition clearly. BUT its his car and his money to do with it what he wants. honestly tho i think his accident hurt me more then it hurt him he was smiling i was screaming clutching my head...:frown: o well it sure would be nice to be able to crash a car of that calibur and say whoops and walk it off.

YES!!!! My feelings exactly! I've had a few collectibles and after a few months of letting them sit I sold them. I'll drive whatever I have, including the NSX. The thing I liked about this is the comment about having a smile on your face. That's why I have the NSX, and it makes you smile to drive it.

I've haven't seen the video yet, I'm downloading it as I'm typing this post.

But... reading some of the posts here makes me realize what the 2 kids in that Civic were probably thinking when they approached me at the gas station the other day because I was driving my NSX in the rain. By the way they were rolling their eyes and comments they did to me, they were probably thinking I was crazy/immature/not respecting the car/all of the above to run it in the rain.

Yes, I'm always concerned that something might happen, even out my control, like someone may loose control and come in my lane and hit me, but if I leave the NSX in the garage all the time, might as well start feeling paranoid that my house will fall on it.

Cars are meant to be driven. When/How they are driven is for the owner's only decision to make. S/He is the one who paid for the car. It's not right for us to judge how other people use (or not) their vehicles...

peace

Edit: Just watched the video. I do not see anything that couldn't have happened with any other car for that matter. Yes, this might be a very extra rare vehicle, and yes, there was snow on the track. But any time you see an Enzo or other super exotic vehicle on a track, there is always (more or less) that kind of risk. Some here think the guy with the MC12 is crazy. But think for a minute what the 2 kids with the Civic might have thought of me if I had told them that I do track my NSX. Yep, everything is relative...

At least he took it to a track to have some fun. I saw Jessie James on the Biography Channel doing donuts in the alley behind his shop in his Murcielago.

i read the posts before watching the video, then watched it...

and i disagree with the lot of you guys who says it was totally wrong to take the car out. In the end, it IS a car; an expensive one, yes, but a car.

I don't think it was "abused". Tapping the wall isn't the end of the world & snow is just water. If a $17000 Civic can run flawlessly for 200,000 of any type of weather, a car like this, or even an NSX can probably survive the occasional slush.

Seems like you guys think that people with these cars are supposed to park them and drive them 1000 miles a year... what a waste of money that would be.

I don't understand some of your comments.
He just took delivery of the car. No break-in, not even snow tires. He did not even get a chance to read the owner's manual. It was an impulsive behavior to drive it to the race track.

I know, I know, it is his car and his money. You are absolutely right. But it is an abuse.

People can buy expensive antique vases for target shooting too. Do I care? No, not my money. But still an abuse.

Calculated/ build in risks and unnecessary risks are different. The latter one is stupid.
How fast do you think he was able to drive that car in the snow. He did not demonstrate any kind of unique ability or performance of the MC12.

I hope you remember your own words next time you "open up" your NSX on the road or on a track. To many people, driving fast qualifies as an "unnecessary risk". So I guess all of us who drive cars fast are stupid. Do we have to ? no. Do we want to ? yes, and since we can, we chose to do so. Same thing with this guy.

If he chose to drive it in the snow, that's his decision. You and I might have done things differently. But who are we to judge him what he does with his own toys and $$$?

And with regards to your comment on all this being an "impulsive decision"... Since camera crews and all were present there to tape the episode in the first place, I'm pretty sure he had plenty of time to think over it. Things like that do not get rounded up overnight (especially in Europe).

I don't normally comment on subjects that are not black and white. But watching the video made me quinch.

Calling it car abuse is kind of a strong phase that may not sit well with some.

It IS a purpose built race car for the street and not a rally race car for the street. I don't think it is intended to be driven in snow.

If it were to be me with a car like that, I'd want to see what it can do too, but only base on its intended purposes. If it were to be a rally exotic race car, I'd plan a trip in the snow to see what it can do. It'll be easier to justify for my action.

If it is a 200+mph track car, I'd wait for the track to be clear of obstructions so that I can see the max potential of the car in its element. I don't think I can find out much driving the MC12 in the snow at 60mph. It just wouldn't satisfy my curiousity of the capability of the car. May be he is just not a patient man to wait for the summer to come.

They only built 50 cars for the street..the car is a work of art and has a specific purpose..yes it is his car for now.....He basically tore a Picasso out of its frame and wiped his butt with it..the car was not designed for that use and his actions were just plain stupid...I guess I will mark that one down on my list of cars to never purchase used...someday he will tire of it and decide to get rid of it..by then it looks as though it will be junk..:frown:

Meh everyone is a critic, abuse or not...he still earned it and BRAVO for him for doing what that car was made to do; drive. If i'd have had money like that, i'd have driven the piss out of supercars too
