M3 kill

Passed an M3 on a quiet highway last night at about 80 mph. I pulled over to just keep cruising on by when I saw him creep up beside and behind me to check me out. I guess he liked what he saw and gave me a run in the fast lane. I let him get a nose ahead before I downshifted to third (short gears) and wound it out to 8000 rpm.
Poor guy never stood a chance. And as I saw 140 mph on the speedo, he was just a speck in my mirror.
I slowed back down to 80 to let him catch up, switched on my interior light to say hello as he passed, but y'know, he wouldn't even look at me. Go figure.
Ahhh... Another satisfying drive in the NSX.

I used to own an M3 a couple of years back and thought it was pretty fast... then last week I had to make an unexpected run to pick up the kids from school so I borrowed a friend's M3 - geez, that felt weird! I know its all relative but the M3 felt like a boat and on the highway found myself almost overreving the thing a few times.

Getting back into my car a couple of hours later just accentuated how sweet the NSX really is.

Even from a dead stop, no contest.

Ken,

Fun stuff! I went with a blue M3 a few months back. Traffic was pretty light and I was moving onto an highway interchange when I pulled up behind him. I saw him look at me in his rear view and he punched it from about 50 to about 90. I followed, just wanting someone to run with. At any rate we spent a lot of time playing cat and mouse (guess who the cat was :-)

It was very engageing but when my exit came up I decided it was time to have my fun. He was in the #1 lane, and the #2 lane was open for about a 1/4 mile. I only needed a little of it. I dropped it into 3rd while doing about 90 and smoked him. Let off @ about 120ish. I stuck my hand out the window and he did the same out his sunroof. Nice guy, fun car.

I love that stuff!

Chops, you are quite right that he never stood a chance, but not for the reason you think. All BMWs imported to the US are electronically speed limited to 135 mph. I had the same outcome when I was racing a Mecedes 600 sedan with a V-12. Having had an older BMW 750iL V-12, I knew that mine unlimited would run well over 160mph, but his brand new V-12 gave up at 135 mph. I am sure this M3 suffered the same embarasment. I have had my NSX up to well over 145mph and I guess the folks at Acura were just nice enough to give us as much room as we wanted to drive the car the way it was meant to be driven. Keep in mind that the same limits will be placed on the new BMW M3 due out in 2001 with 340hp.

Have fun.

The truth is that the M3 driver gave up after about two or three car lengths. I only kept on it past 100 mph to show off! I mean, what good is a street kill if you can't rub it in a little?
