Lug Bolt Appears to be spinning!!

I'm just curious as to why your studs broke in the first place. Will they break if they are torqued properly every time? Do you do your maintenance yourself? I think that's a problem with some garages is they use a 300 ft/lb impact to put lugs back on and the result is what you have.
 
A fair question on why they broke to begin with. First the setting:

I do almost all of my own work. I hand torque every time. On my 1992 I never once had this issue. My 2000 went to a shop to re-repair an injury the car received prior to my owning the car (I picked up early last year). The wheels where removed at the shop but it was Vince's Autobody in NY who do specialize in NSX's and after talking to the owner I believe they did not affect the studs.

So I believe I AM AT FAULT (dammit...). What I did do was hand loosen the lugs and then use an air gun to spin the lugs off (saves time and historically I have not done that). Taking into account how 'soft' the stock lugs nuts are, I think if there is any variation when using the air gun to 'spin them off' it could be an issue. I think I spun so quick they cross threaded somehow. Maybe they caught on a spec of dirt or I wasn't holding the gun perfectly perpendicular. I am not sure.

Conclusion: Zero air guns will touch the cars lugs on or off in the future. I am just happy they broke off with excessive turning in the loosen direction with a breaker bar. That could have been a tough job to get them off otherwise.
 
On the hub removal vs not, I guess I am not sure what way is best. A few individuals I really trust suggested the method I used. If you remove the hub do you need a massive torque wrench to re-install the shaft lug? I removed that once on a Boxster S. had to rent a 600 ft-lb wrench to get the car back together.
