You cannot run aftermarket speakers directly from the stock head, but you can use still use the Bose head if you also add an external amplifier to drive them.

To shed more light on why.....the bose head unit outputs are low level outputs......thats why they have amps on the speakers...and being that they are low level imputs they are the right impedance for a external amp and after market speakers.

using stock amp or ?

I'd rather replace them with aftermarket speakers for that price. :) No offense.
My JL Audio 650XR components cost about $200, installed them myself and they look sweet and sound crisp and clear. :D

Or get Bose to fix them with the newer better components.

I just sent my Subwoofer into them.

Just call 800-231-2673 for Bose service and they'll give you RMA number for you to send your enclosure(s) in.

Total for all three $227.25 or $79.25 each. That includes S/H back to your door.
If I lived in the Boston area, rather than shipping the units to them, I would bring them there (since Bose is located in the area). That way I would like to hear their explanation of why the units fail - and give them a piece of my mind about it...

I just had all three amps rebuilt and one speaker replaced by Peter of World of Sound in Florida. I overnighted them to him on Monday and had them back in my hands on Wednesday for about $450. My guess is that his turn around time is SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than bose's.
