Are they just trying to get me in to buy a different car?

Please review the following information carefully:

Honda of Steven's Creek in San Jose, CA, is offering a unique market pricing and financing event. Your status as a previous customer qualifies you for this special event.

We need to acquire several pre-owned Honda S2000s by May 31st, 2005, in order to fulfill special manufacturer requests. You have been identified as an owner of one of these vehicles and our new car managers have been authorized to buy back your current vehicle.

We would like to trade in your current vehicle at 110% of Kelley Blue Book value!

They just want to sell you a new car. It sounds all warm and cozy, but they just want to get you in the dealer, lowball your trade and get you buy another new car.

I got a similar letter last week (in almost the same exact wording), but for my "2003 Suburban". Unfortunately, it was for trading it in for another Chevrolet. I passed on the offer. I'm not gonna make the same mistake twice.

I never got an official letter, but I used to get the same speach every once in a while for the sales staff when I took my Legend in for service. It appears all dealer levels will do this. I thought at one time only the smaller domestic dealerships did this, but not so. Lexus, Mercedes, Acura, you name it. They all do it. The funny thing would be if someone was actually ready to sell their car and got this letter. The idea supposed to be to give you an attractive deal on your car, then you realize you need another car so use that money to buy a new car where they rape you on that deal making up the difference. However, it would be cool if you finialize the buy back deal for a good price, than just tell them cut me my check and I'll be on my way. I don't need another car as I already have one  I wonder how the poor salesman will fare with his boss on that one.

I kid you not, we get letters like that at least once a month from our Lexus and Honda dealers. I haven't even owned either of my S2000's in two years now and I still get those letters.

Its nothing more than a way to get you in the door to get you into a new car.
