Greetings all, my reliable 2 Nsx's needs some maintenance. Can you guys recommend anyone since Larry B want to continue retirement life and left us stranded LOL

Middletown Acura. The GM, Colin O'Brien is NSX owner and enthusiast. 845-343-5911 He is currently doing repairs to 1998 Yellow Coupe.

Second choice: Harry's Garage. Might be the smartest mechanic I've ever known. Worked on my car and owned NSX's as well. Really smart guy and KNOWs the NSX.

thanks making man appt

I just got hooked up with MechanicsDirect in Lowell Mass. Admittedly that name sounded ominous to me. Felt like "PepBoys" and therefore not going near my NSX. However, I am bringing my car to them Monday. Apparently they are NSX specialists and one of 3 places in the USA who actually tear into transmissions and fix (they don't send out). I talked to "Mitch" for 10 min and felt totally comfortable. We will see how it goes but since Larry also abandoned me I had to find options. Apparently Larry used them for tranny work. Sadly my car is jumping out of 3rd. Not looking forward to the bill...

Hey Joe. Hope all is well. I finally did replace my front bumper that was split a little bit. My car is near perfection now (minus this transmission issue).

Per your comment:

I misspoke a bit. Allegedly according to "Honcho" (appears quite a primate) Larry used to send folks to this place at least occasionally. Maybe when he was booked up; not sure. He did not say tranny work.

When I spoke to "Mitch" he sounded super knowledgeable and stated they specialize in NSX's and he was one of the original NSX Honda Certified Tech. He then stated that for actually breaking open a transmission, there are basically three locations in the US. Science of Speed, a location in California, and them. He was speaking a bit more generally but certainly inspired confidence and I didn't get the salesman feel at all.

That said, my feedback will be in about 4 weeks from now. We'll see how things go when I drop my car off this coming Monday (5/26/21 for reference later).

A nonsense claim on his part. I can think of 5 within 25 miles of me in addition to the two I named.

I would not have thought there were that many folks willing to crack into an NSX tranny but I realize you have significant background in car repair. Maybe in fairness to him he was referring to folks who do NSX tranny's on the regular and/or specialize in them.

I still felt very comfortable after talking with him that they do a lot of NSX work in general and transmissions particularly. I will be able to provide feedback after seeing the shop Monday and in 2-4weeks from then, seeing how things go on my transmission repair. With some luck, maybe they don't need to disassemble it and life will be good for me...

Thanks - let us know how it all goes. Looks like I'll be on the east coast for a while starting this fall so I'm eagerly awaiting a review as I'm sure I'll eventually be looking for a shop too.

Mitch had been around with Mechanics Direct for a longggggg time. When everyone was more active in the Northeast many years ago they were better known and would participate in club events. But as the region became less active (while Larry B became more active....) Mitch wasn’t as much on people’s radar if they managed to snag an appt with Larry.

Appreciate that feedback. Although I was feeling ok about my plans Monday it nice to get some positive comments.

It's been a long time btw, hope you're well. I saw a new Ford GT over the summer in East Hampton CT and thought of you. I don't think I've seen you since that Black Horse something or other in Bridgeport or maybe it was the West Chester High School thing a few years back. I've been pretty busy unfortunately. Time to get my "NSX" back on and get out there...

Mitch is a known quantity as RSO noted so no worries..BTW If a POS Ford reminded you of anyone it should be Roger...

Whoops. You right. I confused you with Roger.

I think we met also at Camp Good Days a while back. If I recall I had to employ you after driving to Watkins Glenn a bit too spirited (allegedly). I certainly employed some one who was there...

I get confused these days...

This is correct. At his peak, Larry was often booked out 6 months or more (much like Kaz in the UK). He sent folks who couldn't wait to Mitch, of whom he spoke very highly. That was enough endorsement for me, for obvious reasons.

I only use Kun at GT Japanese Auto. It was Bill Gill's old shop. Best NSX tech I've encountered in ages.

Yo Mike any thoughts of selling the Zanardi...timing is everything..

Negative, I know I should capitalize on the ROI but I really do love it.

Hey Rog...Zanardi in the garage or a 509....discuss.....

HaHa my senility put a 0 instead of a 2....529.....

OK, still don't know, what kind of car is a 529, or do you mean the College Savings Plan, or a Zanardi?

really...are you going to twist the endoscope on the way out... What has taken 3 days to restate...Is a Zanardi in the garage better than having a 529 for your kids edu...

Only if the Zanardi continues to appreciate the way it has lately. You can drive it, and sell it later to pay, "win-win"!!!
