I was told by the seller of the car.. that sometimes the check engine light goes on after driving it on the freeway, or just driving for a while. He says its the EGR that gives that problem... does anyone ever built a block off plate?... what would you guys ... girl... recomend?
What should i do to solve such a thing..

p.s. LOVE my NSX.. even though i don't have it.. its broken... lol

Pull the codes stored by the ECU and see if you have a 12 stored. If so get a new EGR valve. They only cost a few bucks and reduce emissions. Why wouldn't you?

A new EGR isn't inexpensive--it's about $120, but I replaced mine a few years ago as it was giving me an intermittent check engine light as well. That did correct the problem. I contemplated installing a block-off plate, but noone had yet done that. You could be a pioneer ;-)

Best regards,

Ben

Are you running any after-market engine management electronics? If so, your ECU may be giving your EGR inappropriate input causing the malfunction. Several of the BBSC kits are experiencing this without resolution.

Assuming you have stock engine management electronics, I would remove the EGR and clean it before you go to the expense of buying a new one. They're really a pretty simple device.

I don't know if I'd advocate a direct connection to vacuum. The NSX not only purposely provides a vacuum signal to the EGR, it also monitors position of the valve. If the ECU detects that the valve is not where it thinks it should be, you'll trip a fault code and fail the test.

My $.02.

I would be really careful about bypassing an egr valve. That particular technology recirculates exhaust gases back through the intake. As I understand from some years ago this in effect cools down some of the combustion temperatures. If you block it you gain nothing in performance but you could damage your heads-due to excessive heat.

thanks for the advice guys/girls... i'll definitly takes it out.. clean it.. and the see if that works, if not then i'll replace it...

Awsome i love this forum.. everyone responds so fast... thanks

CAN'T wait to get my car back from the shop..

As Soichiro suggested, it would be much better to pull the trouble codes before you waste any time or money & find out for sure what the actual problem is, rather than speculation that it is the EGR.
Find out how here
