i have one of those commemorative NSX books that the previous owner of my 91 nsx gave me when i bought it, and it has all the specs listed in the back.. it says the 5spd has 270hp?? what's all this talk about ppl w/ intake/headers and exhaust only having 240hp?? is that only at the flywheel? i wouldnt think that the tranny would take up almost 30HP... or does it?

My 91(@90k miles) dynoed at 255rwhp.. with catback exhaust (b&b, with cats in at the time) and a dirty RM intake as the only engine mods. There is a scanned dyno graph on my site if you want to take a peak. Look in the mods section.

The car has 270 hp at the crank. Dyno results typically show around 240 hp at the rear wheels for a stock car. Drivetrain losses of 11 percent are actually fairly low.

Yes, 11% is quite low. I have always wondered if the drivetrain losses are really that low or if the HP at the crank is just under-rated by the factory. I'd like to see an engine dyno. I'm sure Comptech has done lots of them.

It's possible that they set the HP at 270 on purpose. I've read things before that said Japan is only allowed to rate vehicles up to a certain HP level. Kind of how GM changed from 'gross' to 'net' years ago. Just a guess.
