I failed emissions!!! :(

Just failed smog twice in LA today..... GRRRRR

HC: 92 (max: 85) failed on this
CO: 0.43 (max 0.50) passed on this
NO 702 (max 695) failed on this.....

U can see my mods in my signature... what are my options? I'm out $80 and about 5 hours of my time here.....:frown:

Sorry to hear that but I remember reading from this board regarding to the dealer (acura) is supposed to help with the smog issue on +95 model and up.

The other thing, I would suggest buy a used stock cats (there is one on the used parts section) and swap them with your random tech cats. Then make sure you warm up the car really well before heading to the station. You can always put the after market cat back later when you are done.

Running the engine at 3K with no load is only slightly better than letting it idle.
There's not enough exhaust flow to really heat up the cats. It has to be driven or run with a load. Try to get the smog place to let you run around the block or let you know to be back in 15 min., so you can keep the cats hot.

My car passes sometimes and not others. It can be for HC one time and NO the next. I've checked or replaced the usual parts, but no consistent problem, so I chalk it up to cat temps.

I've checked the cats with a thermometer after driving and the temps drop out of a good operating range in about 5 minutes at idle.

Sometimes a fresh oil change helps.

I failed emissions too. There I was watching the DMV guy doing the test on my car. First I told him you have to turn off the TCS. I pay my fee and says I pass and then he says wait you failed. My jaw dropped. I thought he was kidding. Luckily it was only the gas cap that failed. No line when I got there to DMV. So thought I would be in and out. Not the case. So I went to auto zone and got a new gas cap went back and retested. Pass. But when I got back there was a huge line. Owell at least I won't have to worry about emissions for another 2 years.
