I Bought a Lift today!

An actual free wheel hoist. Those things are slick, but are double the price indeed. I originally wanted to put in a 'Bradbury 4 post hoist' like the educational institutions use. I had a line on a nice used one and the seller backed out because he purchased another shop and needed it there instead.

The Bradbury unit allows the user to drive in on ramps in the same manner as the Lift King unit. It raises and lowers the same. It then has a secondary set of rails on the inside that allow the user to block out to the cars frame allowing the drive on rails to be lowered to the ground. It's a great free wheel system and storage system all in one as I would not want to store my car with the suspension unloaded which is what the hoists all do, yet I desire the free wheel solution so that you can do quicker wheel changes, brakes, general maintenance, etc. The 4 point hoist I have can only do a pair of wheels at a time until I get another steel jacking crossmember. No biggy and I've adjusted on how I use the lift to support general mechanics also.

Bigglesworth: I have a Bradbury unit from ME Lazerte High School that I am looking to sell. It needs some assembly and one ear was bent (minor) by the shipping co but it is complete. I'm looking to get $1400 for it. It's 3 phase power. It was too expensive for me to put 3 phase power in so I have to let it go. Let me know if you are interested.

As for the wheels off thing - the Lift King solution is a jack system that rides between the two ramps and has swing out arms that you position at the jacking points on the car. The jack is air over hydraulic so all you do is hook up an air line and up goes the car so that you can take off the wheels.

Unfortunately a year to late. <sigh> I was faced with swapping out the 3 phase power also on the unit I was lined up to purchase with a single phase unit. It was around $450.00 for me to do that. Why don't you simply change out the motor and keep it??

My shop has in floor heat. With the bradbury lift I would have to bolt it to the floor whereas the lift king one I don't. I would have to x-ray the floor to find a spot where I could put the lift that didn't hit the plumbing and the hassle that would be just isn't worth it to me. Plus I like the idea that I can move the lift around in the event I need to make room in an area for short term reasons.
