Hello, A thought for the masses, If they only produced 8,000 NSX's from the years 1991-2005 taking that into consideration,, lets assume half are wrecked or stolen, or scrapped, and a percentage is shipped over seas or to Canada, how many are actually left? We are actually owners of a rare car,, some say it’s not an exotic? I say humbug, how many mathematically speaking would be left in the usa? Or are there to many variables missing? Would around 3000 or less be a reasonable answer? Just my 2Cents, or maybe 1 in every 100,000 people own one! I know i am wrong but to know that puts a smile on my face!! I know i sh_t like everyone else but its funny!!

I think only a small portion are wrecked/stolen. The salvage list on this forum isn't that big so I think a fair amount of them are still around. Having said that, it is still a rare car. I see maybe one a week in CA and we have a high percentage of them here.

I personally exported a 1991 and 2002 out of the USA to Dubai so that's 2 less...haha:tongue:

One of them was the only Imola/Onyx interior NSX made for 2002 and now it resides in Hong Kong.

Good question???

From http://www.nsxprime.com/wiki/Production_Numbers

USA production numbers from Acura show to be a total of 7,421. For all of North America it appears the numbers are 8,949.

My guess is that there are more than 50% of them still around. I would speculate the number to be higher.

Many are garage queens. Some have gone to the track and races, some street raced and crashed for sure. I'm sure there have been some thefts and vandalism. Not to mention the posts where the pavement was wet and drivers lost control and ran into a tree or some other immovable object.

Since they are aluminum, they won't rust out like many cars. It is my guess the ones that are no longer on the road were crashed. I know it doesn't take much for insurance companies to write them off as totaled, because of the expense to repair. So maybe some of them went to the crusher. You do see several for sale with salvage titles.

It would be interesting to see if anybody had an estimate on how many may still be registered, still road worthy. And as you have pointed out, some of the USA cars have been exported.

Either way, they are fairly rare cars. I have yet to see one on the road, even though I know there are a couple in the where area I live.

One of the guys on the Viper forum posted insurance stats for 5 years showing top "totalled" cars by number (SRT-10 was INSANELY high, btw)

If anyone has access to national insurance data, you can actually find out exactly how many were totaled.

Nowhere near 50% though. Even the SRT10 was something like 25% and was considered an insane unprecedented anomaly.

the way viper guys drive at track days this does not surprise me lol

insane torque + inexperience = bad combination

Wow, one a week around the Sac area? I probably see one in a month or two around the Bay Area.(excluding meets of course) But maybe I dont get out enough.

Many NSX owners hardly drive their cars.(including me: 600mi in 2years) The average mileage is 5k miles per year. Less mileage on the road should mean less wrecked/totaled NSXs.

The percentage of totaled NSXs are pretty low. Just look at the number of people parting out NSXs or how many wrecking yards had an NSX in the US. Im sure they are out there but I personally never seen a wrecking yard parting out an NSX.

there are exactly 7345 still running nsx in america.

plus some cars waiting in the backyard for some parts/to be repaired. :) The maintainance of an NSX is expensive after 18 years or so.

DOCJOHN how did you come up with that number? DMV search or something?

LOL docjohn always has the answers to everything. You'll see as you spend more time on this board. We all think he has the ability to tap into some special databases. We never question his information.

I didn't know there is on Imola orange NSX in HK. Also we drive on the right hand side.

I just saw two more broken NSXs at my friend's shop yesterday- one owner has no money to fix it, and the other is wrecked so it's being raped for parts. Truly a sad moment.

At my former shop (a self-called NSX-specialist) there is a nightmare of an NSX tuning story went bad for full THREE years now. Whatever the reason is the car is exposed to the rain, hail, snow and sun since august 06 (!) and literally becomes moss-grown, being robbed for parts. The engine was supposed to be tuned mildly and is laying in the shop diffiusedly. The car was not a former garagequeen but now it's certainly f*ckedup. :( Pictures anyone? :)

I wonder if its the fault of the NSX owner or the shop that the tuning was never finished? Im surprised that the car wasn't stored inside the shop. Sad story indeed.

Hey GOLDNSX, can you get a pic of the Moss grown NSX so we all can see the sad sad NSX,, if you can maybe someone could save this car!!

zxtec + shawn110975: I think it's boths fault but mostly the owner ones being naive to undergo such a project with a guy who is known for lacking motivation or exorbitant delays. I promissed too much, I didn't find a pic of it but I'LL DO! :D I only have some pics of the disassembled engine and the rear suspenion lying around in the shop (pic dates back in 2006).

There are many more but we just don't know about them. For example: I recently met someone who has a 97 and since he bought it 5 years ago he only put 800 miles on it and the last time he logged to prime was 4 years ago to read a DIY on how to change oil.Local owners here have no idea that there is another nsx in the area. There are more like him...

I wonder what the fatigue life is on the aluminum chassis, if any.

Sure the repair costs are up, but so are the resell value and that is what balances out.

As long as the repairs are no greater than 80% of the car's worth, they will fix it...
