If I'm too lazy to drive all the way to the Honda dealer, what are the Hondabond HT equivalent products (3M, Permatex, etc.) if I want to get it from a regular auto parts store? Or is HB such a magnificent product that I'd be stupid to go elsewhere? I think I heard someone mention "The Good Stuff". Is that one of them?
I picked up a tube of Permatex Ultra Gray. Then I happened to drive by the Honda dealer and had instant second thoughts. I darted in there and bought the Hondabond HT. Half the size at twice the price. The Ultra Gray mentions it's a substitute for Honda part number xxxxxx-xxx. That number is almost identical to what the HT number is - maybe it is the equivalent to the older HB non-HT? Oh well, I hate being a Honda fanboi but I only want to seal my valve covers one time.
The ultra grey is perfectly good and as close as you can get to hondabond - I would not use "right stuff" on anything other than oil pans (it is very soft) .
The Honda Bond is a lighter consistency than the Permatex Ultra-Grey. I like working with the Honda Bond because of the lighter consistency. They are both a silicone sealant. It's kind of a user preference.
I really liked the Honda Bond for putting my tranny back together. It is much easier to put down a thin coating.
Wal-Mart usually has the Ultra-Grey if you are in need late at night.

If I were you though, head to the dealer and pick up some HB. It comes in a pretty big tube, so I doubt you'll run out for a while after purchasing it.
it might just be a coincidence but in my experience the HT was the only sealant the never leaked in any application, no matter how extreme, including gasket-less, full oil-bath valve covers on a lancia that always leak.
