Because they don't have special equipment?? Has anyone ever heard of them saying this or dealt with it?

the special equipment is that no tech wants to touch it.

i get that but i didn't mention that the car isn't exactly drivable right now (valve gasket i believe) and i was wondering if there was a way to like call them out on it without going through the nightmare of a getting a tow truck

well obviously there is a back story.......why don't you tell us about the car.

not much of a backstory really. Last night leaving a place about 30mi from where i live i noticed the car warming up quicker than normal and then a faint oil burning smell with some smoke not long after. so i baby-ed it to the nearest dealership which was this honda dealership where they told me theyd look at it in the morning. The only thing specific they told me was they couldn't check the coolant pressure.

also there was no obvious noise difference to me or change in the cars behavior

If you are located in North America, then you should be at an Acura dealership. Honda techs would not have any knowledge on an NSX. Getting my NSX worked on at a Honda shop is like pulling teeth, and I own the beep beep place, so don't be too offended.

true a pure honda shop would not offer to work on the nsx

Since Honda doesn't sell Acura, their techs are not NSX certified so they're not going to take the risk and work on your car. You can't blame them for not having the right tool and/or certified tech.

First of all, judging from your description it looks to be a coolant issue it could be as small as busted hose or as large as a head-gasket failure.
Where are you located?

See this was my first thought as ive had gaskets blow on other vehicles before and its usually pretty noticeable so i thought it was a hose. But im located in charlotte nc, car is currently in concord.

And that makes sense to me about the honda dealerships, it was just confusing to me becuase ive had it worked on at honda dealerships before, this is the first time ive tried this one and i hate tow trucks

Simple maintenance and repair can probably be done by a Honda dealer (for example brakes, oil change, some suspension) but things specific to an NSX (engine, electronics, quirky things like window regulators, ABS, etc.) I'd want to be worked on by an NSX-certified tech. And a Honda dealer would also probably want to cover their butts as well, so I'm not suprised a Honda dealer would be reluctant to work on an NSX.

All that being said, my guy is an Acura-trained NSX Tech who now works at a local Honda dealer... 1/4 less hourly rate than the Acura dealer and they want me to get my own parts, which is fine by me!

I would have it towed to whatever dealer/shop you would want to use for the repair - with a strong preference for one with a fair amount of NSX experience.

I know your area has lost such experience with Steve Gooding's tragic passing, but you're going to have to have it fixed somewhere - find a place you can trust.

Just tow it to NSX friendly shop. I wouldn't want Honda dealership work on my s2000 yet alone NSX.
Who do we have in NC?

That's like bringing a Bentley to a Volkswagon dealer.

thats a different story all together. but this did make me wonder if you can take an frs to a subaru dealer and a brz to a scion/toyota dealer...

How far is your home from honda?

Tow the nsx home, research on nsx prime or local boards for nsx specialists or acura dealer.

Honda is a joke, they insisted my friends S2000 did not come with HID. Three of their "parts specialists" did not know.

So three no minds make all of Honda a joke?

I had an instance where I needed an oil change while on a road trip and stopped at a Honda dealership.
The service manager nicely explained that while they could drain the oil and install an oil filter , they weren't qualified to work on NSX's. He saw the NSX as a special car and preferred to see it serviced properly at an Acura dealership.
He took the time to find the nearest Acura dealerhip (120 miles away), called and made an appt. for me.
Great service from Honda.

Crown Acura in Greensboro or Hendrick Acura in Charlotte are two options. Hopefully a local NSX owner can supply you with alternatives. If you use a tow vehicle, insist on a "roll-back" flatbed truck. They are the best option for ease of loading/offloading without damage.
