Gran Turismo 4 is in stores now...

NSXSUPRA- I found your White NSX
USed NSX

Its interesting to see that the prices in GT4 are actual Market Prices for new and used cars in Japan. Its also a true reflection of how even in Japan that NSX's hold their value.

Thank You.

unfortunately I have yet unlocked white NSX with black top or NA1 type R (still trying).

I have already unlocked HSC , NA2 type R concept (black hood, front spoiler with matching color), NA2 type R (won of of the races with it so far)

Just completely all the licence, what a pain with the Nuburgring Nordschleife track in super licence. Almost impossible completing track in 6 minutes 45sec without going off track once.

Sense of speed is insane in Nuburgring Nordschleife track, almost Burn Out 3 level, extremely intense, require some serious fast reflexs

I already pre-paid for my US copy  ...hopefully, it does come out SOON!!! instead of sony delaying it again...

Can't believe Sony did not include some more Exotic cars, considering they are making a killing with this game world wide, should of at very least included some older and new Ferrari, Porsche and Lambo models.

605 car is really not 605, more like 200, most of cars on the list are just different variations, like 24 different Skylines, 15 or so different NSXs etc.

Overcall car selection not a lot better than GT3, can't believe this took them 4 years.

I am still more than satisfied even with my unrealistic expectations, there are a few big improvement and many little details I forgot to mention:

second in car view(you can see your hood), it now have 3 view total. This is the only game that have did it correctly, you now actually feel you are drving a car when using in car view, also better sense of speed.

If you take out all the lunch box cars that no one ever races unless its required, then the car list is even smaller than that. I remember a few years back where I purchased the Playstation just for playing Gran Turismo.

Looking at GT4 and the cars list, it doesn't seem as exciting anymore. Definitely not worth purchasing a PS2 just for the game. If they added some more exotic cars and less variations of the same car, then it may be worth a PS2 purchase.

I don't understand why they don't make a game on the PC to crush the Gran Turismo series.

Just played some last night and I must say the tracks are pretty close to the real thing. Laguna Seca looks more like it does in real life (although that bank after the down hill isn't as pronounced) Infineon I am told looks damn close to the real deal too.

So far though I must say I really like the nitrous. I know its a crutch but its fun!

I'm glad I played through Prologue...since I'll be able to skip a considerable number of license tests and get straight into the racing!

Akira- Are the tests transferabble ?? I thought not.. well I dont want to get the IA and Super Licence cos then when I get the english version I got to do it all over again.

I read on one of the gaming sites that you CAN transfer the Prologue tests over to GT4...but they've only confirmed that feature for the Japanese release.

Since Prologue didn't even come out in the States, I'm not sure they'd bother allowing someone to transfer Prologue (Japanese) results into GT4 (U.S.).

Just curious

For those of you that have Gt4 how many of you are playing with the Drive Force Pro?

Also how do you guys have the wheel mounted/ setup?

My Driving Force Pro arrived yesterday and I just got my copy of GT4 (Japanese)...played it at lunch in our main conference room with wheel mounted on a little table (took me nearly a half-an-hour trying to configure the wheel because I didn't realize the power strip I had plugged it into wasn't plugged in). Got to view it upon our 50" Sony plasma HDTV...480p at first, then in 1080i. WOW! 1080i is super crisp (almost too much so since there's no anti-aliasing)!

After one lap of driving the Takata Dome NSX around the Nurburgring Nordschleife course, I was sweating bullets...the wheel at full force makes you work really hard! I also took a crack at Infineon in an NSX (my NSXPO experience gave me a good line to follow), Laguna Seca in an S2000 (man, I kept breaking the rear loose), the Cathedral Rocks rally course in a WRX STI (I hung with the AI car for most of my first lap...but damn is rally a lot of work with the wheel), and then let my coworkers try the wheel. I think several of them will soon be placing orders on the wheel...it's THAT good.

I love the wheel. I love the game. Must play more.

I won't be playing it much at home since I don't have a Japanese or modded American PS2. Plus, I definitely need to find a little table for mounting the wheel.

I'm also impressed how the pedals didn't move away from me...the little carpet catch thing works surprisingly well!

To get it to output in 480p or 1080i do you need an s-video or a component (not yellow but RGB) cable?

Yeah the I need a real good setup @ home to set up the wheel.

I found this on another forum.. just curious if anyone else has built one of these seat/wheel jigs.

I came up with a very nice way of mounting my wheel that didn't require making any additional purchases. I took an old black KMD music keyboard stand that I haven't been using since I got a two-tier stand nearly a decade ago. There's just enough surface area to mount TWO wheels...and, since this is a stand designed for a keyboardist, it can be raised or lowered for standing or seated driving not to mention extended wider to make more room for the second driver. I'll have to take a picture of it when I get the chance...especially when I invite a friend over with his wheel. When standing, it's like playing old driving games in the arcade. When seated, I can play for hours (which is good considering how long some of the races are)!

I was able to transfer 2,500,000 credits (max 10,000,000 credits) from GT3 (Japanese version) to GT4 (Japanese version) and I was able to skip license tests a and b thanks to Prologue. I started GT World mode with a used '00 S2000 Type V and am on my way (have already won two cars...though nothing worth mentioning). The Driving Force Pro never ceases to amaze me...I can't believe I ever played the GT games without a wheel.

GT's simulated realism extends beyond cars to cameras. Yes, I've been playing with Photo Mode. The camera is complete with focal length, auto focus (you can pick your focus zone), aperature, shutter speed, exposure bumping (although this works more like a gamma control), and white balance. You can even take black and white photos (warming up the white balance produces nice sepia toned images). I quickly recorded a replay of me driving an NSX around Infineon Raceway and then started taking pictures from various moments (thankfully, you can now fast forward in replays). In the photo mode, you can use the replay cameras or one of nearly 64 alternate angles, always with the ability to pan and tilt plus, on the alternate cams, some ability to lower or raise the camera. After you've taken a bunch of shots, you can quickly throw together a slide show....and it plays back with music, cross dissolves between photos, and even some motion (the push ins move toward the center of focus, not the center of the shot...which actually works very well at adding drama to the slide show). I need to figure out a method of getting the photos off of my memory card since I don't have any of the supported USB memory devices (I tried using a Memory Stick reader, but that didn't work).

Driving, taking photos, making and playing games...sounds like Yamauchi and I have a lot in common.

I have YET to hear a game that REALLY recreates the true sounds of cars realistically.

No kidding. They are missing all of the banging and tinging sounds that a car makes when on a road course. And how about the hard compound brake pads squealing, tires rubbing, chunks of rubber and stones in the wheel wells, wind noise etc.

Has anyone been playing the drift mode in GT4?

Wasn't aware there was one...although I must admit that it is much easier to do controlled drifts in GT4 than GT3 (or perhaps the wheel has made it easier). Either way, I'm LOVING GT4. Everyone is in for a REAL treat when it finally comes stateside.

I remember hearing something about a "drift mode" that was suppose to be in GT4. I haven't had much luck finding it so I was wondering if some one else had..

I hope the US version has the Internet play. I can't imagine how much fun that will be on GT4.

Check out this after market shifter & break lever for the Driving Force Pro in japan!

I don't think Sony has officially announced a date so its anyones guess. Although the usplaystation.com has it listed as a March 2005 release.

would the japanese version work?? isnt there regional code differences. when my girl brings movies and stuff over from london we cant watch them on the player we have to watch them on the computer ccause of regional code differences. i dont know about games though

playstation.com still lists the U.S. version as coming out in March...I think we would have heard if the game is coming out in a week.

BTW, be sure to check out my GT 4 Photo Mode thread

And I've officially decided...GT 4 is brilliant! Last night, I discovered how cool B-Spec mode can be...as a method of collecting money for GT Mode. I was in A-Spec mode, WAAAY in the lead driving my '97 NSX Type S in the 90's Japanese Car series when I spun into a wall just before the finish line (even then, I still came in second). Rather than re-drive the race, I popped into B-Spec mode, issued some aggressive overtake commands to my driver so he would quickly take the lead, then told him to complete the remaining laps at his own pace. I left the room, washed my dishes, then came back to collect my trophy. Very cool. You can even accelerate time in B-Spec mode to make longer races progress at a more reasonable rate.

Pit mode now features pit-in options including whether or not you wish to change your front tires and/or rear-tires and/or refuel. If you own more than own class of tires for your car, you can actually switch to the different set (I think you can even mix and match...which is great for cars like the NSX that go through rears at a faster clip than the fronts)
