Ok anyone else lame like me and import in their GT3 A+B licenses and 100k? My excuse is that I don't have too much time to play because of 3 kids so I'll take any starting advantage I can get ;) I played for an hour last night.. awesome! My first car was.. a 95 NSX.. woohoo!

damn...I erased all my GT3 stats and I to start all over again....damn A/B licenses took forever to get last night...Had to pass like 16 tests for each license... :frown:

man i got my copy and played 10 hours straight...lol the game is absolutely amazing. and it falls nothing short of that statement. The game has improved alot and it actually feels more true to life. the way the cars nose dive when you brake. when you hit a wall the screen blurs and you dont just bounce. all the little intricate details that they have picked up on....it makes it all the more enjoyable. antoher thing I thought was really cool was the picture taking mode.. if you guys havent checked that out yet. Its really cool to see how much emphasis has been put into the game.

and yeah i imported my stuff from gt3 as well

Why is it taking so long to arrive on the WEST COAST? , I was told "should be here by the 24th", thats two days behind the SOUTH EAST.

Anyone know where I can pick up a copy? I want one yesterday, dont know if I can hold off for another 24hours

do you have a gamestop near you? Pm me and I may be able to help you out.

Just got mine today from best buy with the driving force pro steering wheel! Game is awesome! The screen shakes violently when you crash at high speeds! Of course you got to love the 900 degree turns.

Hey Spartan,
As far as I know most west coast EB's got their shipments in late yesterday afternoon. At least that's what my local EB told me when their shipment came in at 3pm yesterday....

15 X $100 wouldn't even cover the deposit! $500 to reserve a spot in the next production run, $7,000 more for the deposit, and then the balance, which totals $15K.

Oops, didn't proof-read to make sure there were enough 0's before posting that reply. My bad. :p :D

I haven't gotten the game yet, but I was talking to my buddy last night (whose been playing for a day straight) and he said the only NSXs are 2001 and up. But the 2001 has the new front end....(exposed headlights). I haven't checked myself so I'm going off his research.... but is this true. Do they have older NSXs...?

yup  i think there are about 20 or so in the game. but that includes the jgtc race cars as well

You didn't see my Photo Mode shots of the older NSXs, did you? Yes, there are more than 20 NSXs in the game!

Lame? I played through those tests on GT4: Prologue (not to mention played 15% of GT4's Japanese version). No shame in importing GT3 data...at least not for me!

Still waiting for the U.S. copy...and I can personally confirm that it is NOT possible to LAN connect the Japanese version with the U.S. version over the Internet via Xlink Kai...but playing Japanese to Japanese and U.S. to U.S. works like a charm. Can't wait to see you guys online!

This game far exceeded my expectation. Simply amazing. The last two courses of the IA license exam was intense!!!

I have a question, though. Is it just my copy or console that the screen shakes/vibrates occassionally (especially in a still screen shot or in a review mode)? It's bothersome.

Ya unfortunately the shaking is a bug. I get it too but usually its just during the opening part not actually during the race so its not THAT big of a deal (but still annoying).

I thought the new headlights came in 2002? Anyways, I bought a 95 NSX so the older ones are definitely there.

I'm guessing this is more an issue of dropping frame rate below 60hz while trying to maintain video sync...it's also in the Japanese version.

If Polyphony Digital double-buffered GT4's display, they could have gotten around this, but I'm guessing they're doing something tricky with VRAM to squeeze out more texture space. They certainly couldn't do double buffering on the 1080i mode since a single frame eats up most of the PS2's VRAM...but, oddly enough, I've read that there are less frame rate issues with 1080i (I don't have a 1080i display, so I can't verify this).

All right you guys have convinced me, I need to buy one of these systems!!!

What do I need?
What type of PS-2 unit? I see they make a slim line version also.
Steering wheel?
Memory cards?
Additional games worth buying?

I have a 40" Samsung LCD display that can display 1080i through component input and DVI and through a VGA port.

I want to get some type of a force feedback steering wheel, it would be nice if it would also work for a PC but I guess this isn't necessary.

thanks in advance for your help!!!

Could you please speak English, Prof. Akira? Double-buff? Are you saying that if I put some Zymol or Zaino on my copy of GT4 and buff it with microfiber towel "twice" (double), it will solve the problem? :)

I did not fully understand, but I believe that the main point of what you explained is that there is nothing wrong with my PS2 or GT4.

Thanks for the help!

akira3d,
you are right about running the game with 1080i! i have a 60 " sony grand wega xbr lcd monitor, the game looks and play awesome!! no issue what so ever!! no shaking or frame rate issue!! the driving force pro wheel is totally bad ass!!

I got my cockpit and it makes it feel so much better. The only problem is it wobbles a little so im gonna reinforce it with some more tubing and also the seat hurts my ass so i might have to put a racing seat on there. Well just have to see. Overall im very happy with it.

I don't think that's the problem. If it were, it would occur much more often on 1080i where it's more likely not to be double buffered and has a lot more pixels to fill before the raster.

From what I've heard described, it might be an issue specific to interlaced modes where they are sometimes incorrectly displaying the opposing field. This would cause a vertical jittering and it's possible that they only display a single field during racing (repeat for both odd and even field), and only switch to interlaced during menu screens, review mode, still screenshots etc. If this is the case, I would think that it would also happen in 1080i, but perhaps not as obvious for a number of reasons (ie more vertical lines=less obvious jitter, maybe they're not actually rendering 1080i but scaling from a lower resolution, built-in line doubler on some higher end TV's etc)

Anyways, that's just a guess.. I'd have to see the problem first-hand to be able to assess the root cause. In any case, the bottom line is that it's an issue with the game, and not with anyones setup.

Has it ever happened to you that the game froze on you?
I was doing the Beginner's league, Roadsters, and it all of a sudden froze on me without saving anything - the screen turned black after I attained the winning credit.

This is why I suspected a dropping frame rate issue...forgive me if I'm wrong, but, if you don't double buffer, any hitch would either cause you to draw the field in the wrong order or appear to drop vertical resolution in half. I recall this being true of many early PS2 games.

I don't call frame rate issues bugs (just an unfortunate interest in optimizing a game to the point of holding a constant 60hz). Some games jitter, others hitch, some don't lock video sync (which causes frame shearing), and others just run choppy all the time. They're not issues with anyone's setup, but each trade-off is annoying in its own way. Personally, I wish all games ran at a lock solid 60hz, but, lately, more games have been slipping. I think the biggest problem is that the most popular games are among the least polished in this area (games like the GTA series).

As for game freezing, I've seen disc reading problems posted on forums relating to the fact GT4 is one of the few games shipping on a dual-layered DVD. Older PS2s with dirty lenses and especially modded PS2s seem to have the most trouble reading the game.
