How can this even be a poll? Isnt it proven fact that grip is faster?

The tires and the driver must "smoke" to be the quickest  D2 is the shizzy yo!Drifting is fun to do and watch,so please don't think I be dissing it.

Isn't it a rule that the more your tires smoke, the lower your time will be?

Where did you get that idea? My friend Ryan (ryans) will greatly disagree when he reads this thread. Drifting is definitely faster. You know what they say, if it looks like it, feels like it, it must be it, then.

Try drifting around a corner. Doesn't it feel faster?

Drifting is the shiznit. we all do it fo shizzle!

I've raced go-karts a goodly amount, and in a kart, if you skid AT ALL, you get passed up in the race. It's absolutely a major slow-down to drift in a kart. Not sure if it's the same in a vehicle with a suspension, but I bet it is.

C'mon Jeff! I think u just not driving fast enuff. fo shu drifting is shizzle for fizzle.

My friend Ryan is a drifter. And he claimed he will spank any road racer, and I believe him!

Sorry, not convinced  Ever seen an F1 car drift? Ever seen really any pro racecar in a race drift and not have to slow down to regain control? Drifting is skidding, and that skidding is friction that is slowing you down. It's a lot of fun, but it ain't the fastest way to get around the track IMO.

yo for reals, drifting is the fastest way around the track. I was just at thunderhill drifting my X and it was like hammertime, you can't touch this. I think I was doing at least 1:55 full course on street tires. Why do you think Drift king drifts? He's one of the top JGTC drivers and he's drifting the whole time.

Me and K dog go way back yo.

Man - you're talking with real raaaaaacers here! And we do know that we're really fast in the corners when we can see the next straight only through the side windows...

I just saw my first drifting event at the JGTC in Fontana.

I will allow that it takes incredible car control but it had all the excitement of watching high school kids doing burnouts in the parking lot. It made watching the autocrossing seem exciting.

Andrie is right... drift is alwayz best! i did not believe it til i my friend whose teh best drifter on teh coast told me 2 try it. i did and i was LiKe wHoOoAa! evar since i drift all teh time 2 maxamize my speedz,,, yeah it take mad skilz but Jeff my advise is try it - it raelly work!!!!1

LOL.. Dun be playa dorifto hatar..

Well I like to learn new things, and I'm sure many of you are faster than me (I know Andrie is, I was on the track with him at the Glen in October...). So maybe I'll try it sometime. But I don't think I'm looking forward to running street tires on the track and burning thru them at high rates of speed. Sure does look fun though.

Still, gotta wonder why NASCAR and F1 and all the other classes of racecars don't do it all the time. Wouldn't they all be doing it if it were really faster?

Funniest thing I've read today.

I want an option in the poll for "Fast in, fast out." Sexual inneuendo be damned.

AFAIK next week Andrie is hosting a special training course for some F1 drivers to teach them how they could be much faster next season with extensive drifting. Schumacher & Co will also attend a theoretical lesson from Ken (NSXtasy) who will teach them that they could drift better with NSX stock Yokos and Bridgestones.

It is in the works! :D

I'm still having a hard time with Ralf though. Michael is easy going and open minded. I guess, that's why he is much faster than his younger sibling. ;)
